The good ones also use a voltage regulator to prevent spikes.

Riser with PCI-E = Voltage regulator needed because PSU gives only 12V over 6-8pin pcie.
Riser without voltage regulator = molex or sata = PSU can regulate directly.

Only advantage when you need a lot of power over pcie (i.e.  RX; 1050/Ti without powerconnector)

You are confusing a transformer with a voltage regulator. A voltage regulator is designed to maintain a constant voltage and prevent spikes. It does not step down current, that's what a transformer does.

Risers are most popular on the minning.

Powered risers control the amount of power drawn through the PCI-E slot and stabalize the flow of current using capacitors. The good ones also use a voltage regulator to prevent spikes. Ribbon cable wires are also too thin to be used under constant load, IMO.

I doubt...those complex sytem work fine? half of them did not even recognize lol. anyways, what is control the amount of power drawn?

for example,we have Rx470 TDP 150W. in general, supplied 75W from mobo,  other 75W from additional-PSU.
then, 8pin add-PSU can supply 150W,so we do not use riser card, GPU take 150w from here simply.well done!   something wrong with this calculation?

On the contrary, connect riser card to 4pin or SATA cables as a mobo . I guess current flows 30W-75W, but HDD,optical drive, etc require about 10w.so overcurrent..
I feel that more dangerous than do ribbon.

if you use ribbons they need to have the additional power attached to them so you dont burn out the pci slot on the motherboard.

they usb risers are better in the fact they can be sat somewhere else other than directly above the mobo
plus the circuitry is better than just the ribbons themselves less chance or burning stuff out

I use the ribboin with the extra power. So it is still safe.

not true, i use ribbons all the time with my 1070 and they work perfectly fine, usb risers or powered risers are useless with the h81 pro btc, that come with additional power, they have a reason onyl on MB withotu 2 molex

Ribbon  are okay with some cards and some rigs.

But a well made riser  is better.

If you had an Aorus 1080 ti and ran it at 80%  it would bury your ribbon.  but it is using 240 watts

a 1070  at 80% is using 120 watts.

To op if you have lower powered cards a well made ribbon might work for you.  I never use ribbons and seldom use risers.
I build rigs like this:

3x 1080 ti

2x 1080 ti plus  1 x 1070

hi guys,I began to mining. we need x16 to x1 ,but can choose extend "ribbon".
We know well, these cards made in china, and many many many many faulty goods.

I feel that depend on complex system of riser card such as exchange to USB via circuit board.
then I want to use riser ribbon with auxiliary PSU, it has less complexity than cards. so i feel less troube.

why lots of people use riser "card"?  I really don't undertand at all.for some reason?
