I got a couple more people interested in bitcoin. I am advising them Electrum. Seems best for us newbies.
That's great, just do not advertise Bitcoin to them like a ponzi scheme.
I mean like telling them: "Buy Bitcoins now and it will be doubled after a few years".
I've been seeing newbies and some telling something like that in social medias and sometimes here in this forum's speculation board.
It's bad for "our" image.

If you want to monitor Bitcoin's price (and your balance's) in Electrum's interface, enable it in the Preferences->"Fiat" tab.

There are some fake Electrum wallets So make sure to tell it to your friends.

The exact URL is electrum.org if you found a electrum with different extension it's a fake one.

Thanks for that!! Yes, mine is good.

What do you mean? Do you mean that your bitcoin is not rising? The amount of bitcoin will not increase but the price itself increases.

The current price of 12.12156 mBTC according to preev is $88 USD.

Just put the amount of bitcoin you have here  http://preev.com/ and it will show you how much the price of your bitcoin.

For electrum, Check the bottom right circle if it's red or green.
Green means online and Red means offline.

If you took those bitcoins and sold them on the exchange at the moment, they would be worth about $88. When the value of bitcoins is going up, you are not going to get more BTC in your wallet. It means that you can sell them for more. (or get more stuff if you want to use them to purchase stuff.)

I started a wallet several months ago and really don't know a lot about bitcoin. I started with $50 and it says I have +12.12156 mBTC. Why isn't my Bitcoin going up since it's been on an upward streak lately? Sorry, not very good at this yet.

Also how do I know i am "online" with my electrum wallet versus "offline". thx
When 1btc was $0 then 1btc = 1btc
When 1btc was $10 then 1btc = 1btc
--------------- $100 then 1btc = 1btc
--------------- $1,000 then 1btc = 1btc
--------------- $10,000 then 1btc = 1btc
Even if 1btc become $100,000 still 1btc = 1btc 🙂
