I’d take a read through both of the following threads:

Open source hardware wallets
Secure Element in Hardware Wallets

Ledger is not completely open source, since their secure element is closed source (the rest is apparently open source). That has it’s pros and cons, and reading the above treads gives you some insights on what may be best.

I own a trezor and Ledger Nano S and both are fine for me. They are open-source hardware and there's no security issue on it.
[cut]

Is Ledger hardware really open source?
I haven't heard that before. I always thought that only the Trezor was the open source of these two.

I am using them without having any problem.
If you lose your hardware wallet then your coin will be in big trouble and in technically danger.
But with trezor it takes years to steal the content. For me its the safer wallets and recommend people use it

These things happen from time to time. Trezor is the most trusted wallet and for good reason but as said earlier sometimes the devices do have a defect in them. Anyways, if you don't like it you could go for ledger nano, they are highly reputable.

So far, I don't have any problem with my Ledger Nano, it works fine and it can connect to an external wallet such as Metamask and Electrum. It's more than a year now and I haven't experienced any problem using it. But still, I know Trezor one is also a reputable hardware wallet, do you think your problem is just some sort of hardware issues? If yes then you should ask the support if you could have a replacement for it. All you need to do is to keep your pass phrase. Or else, try to use ledger nano.

You comment doesn't make sense. Cables are inexpensive and I got new one long and is working.
There is no point in delivering bad cable that don't work. If we using your common sense than they should add few dollars to the price and give us some hq that works.

You are really making a big thing out of nothing.... There is absolutely no problem with the device and the software protecting your coins. I have had several hardware wallets, including the Trezor and I had no problems with it.

Also... Trezor the company might have signed a contract with a hardware manufacturer or supplier to supply these cables to them and only a small percentage of these cables might have failed. (1 or 2 batches out of the millions they made)

Calm down.... get in contact with the company and file a complaint and you might even get a new cable for your effort. (If you are to stingy to fork out a few dollars for another cable on your own)  Roll Eyes

I don't know how about Ledger nano but  I consider to replace now for Trezor model T since the one is terrible this company is really unprofessional to sell dysfunctional devices.

So after all these problems with multiple trezor one wallets you're still buying trezor T as a replacement? Are you a masochist? Grin

I have ledger nano S and it works fine. If it doesn't you can always use your key words to restore the wallet.

If the problem is with the cables maybe you're bending them or something? My phone charger cables usually break after about 2 years but they're cheap just as usb cables. These things have limited lifespan but you can get them in every store.

It's your comment that doesn't make sense when we compare it to the title of the topic.
Your situation right now is like a client cursing Ford and saying they will never buy another car from them because it was shipped with Firestone tires (which do suck or at least did in so in my case). Are you going to buy another car just because you don't like the tire on one? Or you;re going to pass on a house deal because the paint on the fence is not your favorite color?

Oh, and btw, your stories start to make little sense again and again

but this is not see easy to get new cable where i am at.
I got a new cable and is working.

See, problem solved.

Why you should NEVER buy Trezor one
<>
Their device getting annoying af. I had multiple devices as some were lost and i replaced many laptops since then.

One month ago:

Trezor saved my after robbery
<>
Someone rob the house and rob everything laptop, money credit cards, phone But Only the trezor under the bed he not rob.
Is saved me because i use loclbitcoins and sold my btc later and still have money with no worries
bitcoin = freedom

How about after you remind yourself that trezor saved your life, noting that I don't truly believe your whole story, especially since next you claimed to keep your privatekeys in google mail you stop putting the drive under your mattress or your rug and damage those cables?

Your problem is the cable not with the device, and trezor has had a problem with their cable suppliers for quite some time, get a better USB cable for a shop and be done with it.

yeah, i remember that story. didnt know that it is the same person as i didnt go thru his post history. lol
should be thanking trezor and not complaining bout the cable. and very well yes, you can buy good-quality cable anyway. his rant towards trezor is not justified and misleading users bout his title thread. i really thought it was the trezor itself was a prob.
maybe the reason why the cable that come with it is a trash coz it is not really part of their pricing for this product. so just treat it as a freebie and consider that it really does have very short lifespan

I prefer HD wallets, so I'm not likely to use hardware. In addition, this is not the first time I see a negative review for Trezor.
And it's certainly not the last. There's no perfect product in the world with zero negative reviews.

the usbc cable that came with it is trash true. However I would rather pay their current price for a trezor instead of raising it so they can put in a better cheap cable. I love my trezor. no problems. 10/10 would recommend.

You already made it clear that the fault isn't from the trezor hardware wallet you own but from the cable so try and get a better cable from a cable store.
Even when we buy new mobile phones, the cable get faulty and we change it so the case is the same with your trezor hardware wallet.

And who provides the cables all the time? Trezor.
There mini cables are not functional 99% of the time so why sell them from the beginning?
I don't have problem with the device If i get new cable the problem will be fixed.  but this is not see easy to get new cable where i am at.
You, or one of your friends surely have an original microUSB cable from some older (or even new) smartphone. Try to use that and see if it works. If not, then it's a faulty device/port.

Should've been the first thing you must've done before purchasing another USB cable directly from them. I doubt with multiple new cables it's still the quality of cables at fault tho. Contact them and see what they're saying, maybe the fix is free.

I prefer HD wallets, so I'm not likely to use hardware. In addition, this is not the first time I see a negative review for Trezor.
And it's certainly not the last. There's no perfect product in the world with zero negative reviews.

I got a new cable and is working. Anyway I still blame Trezor because their cable are suck and never work  and they continue to sell them.
Anything else good. But still very unprofessional.

It already saved you from the robbers. Be grateful Smiley  Now the cable is working you can then access your funds.
I'm not a fan of any hard drive wallet and I have no money to buy one. But what I like is the MEWconnect which is almost like a hard drive wallet where we can store our ERC tokens. The private keys are saved in the phone storage, pretty much works as intended. I can even swap Tokens to ETH using the MEwconnect.

I'm more of a Ledger shill than a Trezor, but let's be honest here. What are the chances that you'd actually not see a single negative review for a product that's used by thousands and thousands of people? Zero. Every single widely used product will have bad reviews regardless how ungodly good that product is.

why will anyone want to buy trezor?
Because.. a lot of us value the security of our funds?

Most of these companies do have challenges with their cables, which i think is the major issue with OP Trezor wallet not connecting to the laptop. I would also disbelieve OP, becasue his write up seem missed up with his actions, you removed your Trezor and keep your private keys with the google drives, then the cable was abandoned which could caused it damage. Changing the cable will be the final solution for the Trezor and not that its a negative review on the said Trezor wallet.

Had a Trezor for many years. It's never given me any trouble, updates just fine and I like their attitude far more than Ledger's. I'm wonder when a really enormous hole is found in how it operates but for now I'm happy with it.

I've always used a standard usb cable with it I had lying around. I did buy one with it, gawd knows what its fiat equivalent is now, but it's unopened.

I think you also had read a thread here that says being cautios with some wallet devices for the wallet private keys are already being open and saved to people that are selling the device online. Of course many had known about bircoin and that when they see a digital wallet device they could try to open it and get the private key so that they can access it anytime once you receive the device and stored bitcoin and that they can make a transfer. Other than that the seller itself selling stuff that are actually already open and then resell it online and will just say it that the device is brandnew and ever been open. Well there are many intances or possibilities of a digital wallet exposure. So let all be careful instead not making awareness.

This is not a promotion, but an objective assessment.

How can you be objective when we're talking about an item that is only available on pre-order and the estimated delivery date is in January?
You're just repeating the manufacturer claims, but you have no way of knowing that those are true.

Ngrave is coated with metal, anti-rust, waterproof, and fire-resistant, which means it will be safer when you are in an emergency situation such as a house on fire, or an earthquake.

Nope, that's not their wallet, that's their back-up solution.

There is a topic about their product and people are not impressed at all:

What does it matter? so because the device saved me one time i am supposed too ignore all the problems with it? . just shut up.

So far, hardware wallets (like Trezor One, Trezor T, Ledger Nano S & X) are safer than storing coins in software wallets. But, I don't really like the plastic material used to coat my most valuable things, right now Trezor is as famous as the Ledger, but there is something safer and better than the two popular hardware wallets, namely NGRAVE.

MODEL T looks better technology and with higher price tag I assume it won't happen there.

Trezor wouldn't be a popular brand if it didn't perform rigorous checks on their products. Not to mention that the problem you have isn't even on the product itself but rather on the cable that you use. You might just be one of the unlucky ones tbh that got a bad cable, but as for the device itself? I'm pretty sure it works fine on your end. It's really easy to just buy a new cable, there are hundreds of shops out there that are able to cater to what you want. Well, if you changed cables and the issue persists, then the problem may be the socket. It's either a device fault or improper usage in your side, which would probably end up in you asking their customer support for fixes.

USB cables sometimes need to be replaced, and it can happen to any cable from any brand. Granted that some have a longer lifespan than others, and are more resistant on the whole, but if you get a replacement and that still goes wrong after a while, then either:

-   The replacement is crap itself.
-   You’ve (perhaps slightly) damaged the USB socket either on the Trezor or on your computer device.

It’s not unusual for us try to stick the USB plug the wrong way round, or to be a bit rough with it, therefore potentially damaging the USB socket on the device.

You’d need to pinpoint whether the fault is on the cables or the USB socket on the device. If you can certify that the latter is the issue, depending on the age of the device, you could claim a replacement if it’s still in guarantee (in this case, make sure you don’t send it off without backing-up and wiping the seed from the device itself).

How long has that been going on? I don't think it happened when you bought it. Of course all products will also have weaknesses and strengths that vary depending on how we use them.

Until recently I was on the Trezor too and everything is fine.

Many connectivity problems
Connectivity issues either come from a faulty device (which is quite rare), a bad cable (most common) or missing drivers/rules (common mostly for some Linux users). If you've ever changed the cable with a high-quality one and still have issues, it may be the Trezor device at fault. Remember that after many uses, cables may get faulty especially if you don't take proper care of the cable's endings.

I used to have problems with my Android <-> PC connection a long time ago. Ended up buying some very cheap Samsung cables only to later find out those don't even connect to the PC at all and charging was extremely slow. Brand name =/= high quality.

If it's the device's fault, you should (I think) have a warranty for it). Contact the support as other members suggested above.

Why they don't make some tests before they launch millions trezors?
Are they stupid?
They always make tests beforehand, but it's almost impossible to launch a perfect product. There are a lot of cars out there who've been found to have some serious issues in bulk. If you really don't like Trezor, then go for another HW brand such as Ledger. But don't expect perfection there either.

Getting a better cable will be good, but if you think you are done with your prefer Trezor one, and you want to buy another hardware wallet, you suggested Trezor Model T, it will be fine but I believe you may not still like cable of a thing connections, It will be good to just get ledger nano x, you can connect to ledger live directly with the use of bluetooth, that will be good for you, and you can connect and operate it on your phone as easy.

Damages and product defects happen, and it happens to pretty much any company. Yes, even with behemoth companies like Apple and Microsoft. That's what their customer support is for— for reporting damages as so they could hopefully help you or by them replacing the item.

I don't know how about Ledger nano but  I consider to replace now for Trezor model T since the one is terrible this company is really unprofessional to sell dysfunctional devices.
Why they don't make some tests before they launch millions trezors?
Are they stupid?
