As I wrote in my first posting: Also when I transferred the backup to my current iPhone the Jaxx-App was put on reset somehow :-/ So I don't know if that would be differently, if I transfer the backup on a "new" device.
If you have already tried using the backup to restore it before... and the app was "reset", then it's highly likely that the backup doesn't include the data from the app that you want Undecided

If that is the case, then no "backup file browser/extractor", nor any iphone device (real or emulated) will be able to help Undecided

further, there is the "Copy Trans Backup Extractor". There are a few programs like that. They are also able to find "iTunes Backups". However, CTBE and (as far as I see) any similar programs are LIMITED to basic information to extract like adresses, pictures, whatsapp-messenges and so on. But no one is able to "go into an app" and operate it as it is possible on the device/iPhone itself.

There is a well-known tool that I always used for restoring/Jailbreaking iPhone and I think you can able to access the data of your backup and the Jaxx app.

It is called 3utools, so try to install this tool and go to toolbox>Backup/restore>backups management>then choose your backup or add the backup>view now> Now you should see something like this below.

Then try to check the app document and maybe you can find the data that you need from the Jaxx app.

You can follow the whole guide from this link below but the guide is for exporting contacts.
- How to View Contacts From iTunes Backups Using 3uTools?

I don't know if it will work without any connected iPhone but try it without a connected iPhone or if you have a new iPhone you can temporarily use it just to access and export the app document data of your Jaxx app.

What do you need a emulated device for?

You should be able to simply access the backup? If i am not mistaken, there are multiple tools available to browse the backup files.

Did you try that already? Did you encounter any issues?

@HCP:
Yes, thank you. Actually I already tried some of those programs (sorry, I could have mentioned that). But I didn't find so far a program which matches to my specific demand:

there is for example iMazing which is a cool program... but it doesn't seem possible that you load existing backups (respectively backups made with iTunes) INTO iManzing - its just possible with backups by iMazing itself.

further, there is the "Copy Trans Backup Extractor". There are a few programs like that. They are also able to find "iTunes Backups". However, CTBE and (as far as I see) any similar programs are LIMITED to basic information to extract like adresses, pictures, whatsapp-messenges and so on. The idea with the "dummy"-iPhone is not so bad, respectively, I could maybe somehow try that (but I don't know anybody who has a iPhone X or/and would it give to me ;-). However, itself if I could try it like that, I still would have a problem, I think. As I wrote in my first posting: Also when I transferred the backup to my current iPhone the Jaxx-App was put on reset somehow :-/ So I don't know if that would be differently, if I transfer the backup on a "new" device.

Isn't there a program for something like a "virtual iPhone" where I can transfer this (unencrypted btw) Backup on to?
Have you tried Google? Huh

A simple search for "extract data from iphone backup" seems to throw up a bunch of various apps which supposedly allow one to open iphone backups and retrieve data.

No idea if any of them are any good (or actually work), but it is a starting point.

I think there is none most of the virtual or emulators out there are just virtual but you can't able to import the backup that you made from your PC.

What I think is buy a 2nd hand iPhone which is cheap than buying a brand new then import the backup that you made from a PC and let it sync to your 2nd hand iPhone.

Or if you have a friend with iPhone try to borrow it and make a backup of his iPhone to another PC and import the backup of yours to his iPhone.

There is another option I don't know if you can able to use the backup to your android.
It's just like Itunes backup>iCloud and then iCloud to Android. But the problem is I think the backup file that includes the Jaxx wallet will not work on android.

Hi,
the status is still unchanged :-/

The "old" Wallet / JaxxApp is still on my Backup, and within, somewhere my Bitcoins / Private-Keys to it :-V
And this iPhone-Backup is stored on my PC-Drive.

Isn't there a program for something like a "virtual iPhone" where I can transfer this (unencrypted btw) Backup on to?

Regards

I'm just wondering why Jaxx seems to be so popular wallet, while it provides an awful service. I know Jaxx was launched 6 years ago, but it means that the company had a lot of time to fix all bugs.

First of all thanks to the community for the quick attempts to help me out.

However, undoubtedly it is also a smart feature to create a seed and so on before you initially use the Wallet. But when I first downloaded / used Jaxx, this security feature wasn't obviously standard, so I didn't have to do that :-/
I didn't understand this part of your post. What do you mean that it wasn't standard? I am not sure how exactly Jaxx displays the seed, but you should have seen a copy of your 12 words seed sometimes during the wallet creation process. It was never displayed to you, or did you not write down a copy of it? Jaxx is a horrible wallet, security-wise, but I believe they still let you make a copy of your seed Huh
I am sorry if my explanation was insufficient. According to my BTC-Record it was Aug 2019 when I transferred the BTC to my Jaxx Wallet. And I strongly guess it wasn't very long before that, that I installed the App for the first time. And I am pretty sure that, unlike now, it was not the case that you were first asked to create a seed - You could start right away with the creation of the wallet and that was it. The "standard" to call you to write up a seed, must have been - according to my experience - established somewhen after Aug 2019. That's at least my strong guess.

So the answer in short is: It was never displayed to me, because I never knew and searched for it after I installed the App initially and transferred coins on it.

From time to time I had a look into the wallet and never saw any significant change. Also, since Aug 2019, there have of course been a lot of updates of the iOS and -most likely- the Jaxx-App as well. However, I never had a so deep look into the wallet, that I saw something like 'ah, you need to do a backup from your seed or private key'. I guess I thought the wallet was connected with my Apple-ID so I could restore it anywhere, also if my phone was stolen or lost or something just by using the latest backup on my harddrive or iCloud. With other apps it is working also like that (for example I wasn't even asked to long in to my twitter or LinkedIn App. It was a different story with my Banking-Apps -_-). But that wasn't obvious the case.

>>snip<<

First thing to always do before sending your Bitcoins to an address is to first make multiple backups of the wallet including copying the seed and keeping it in a very secure and safe location. Encrypting the wallet file a lone and leaving it in the device isn't enough as the you can easily lose the mobile device anytime.
Yes - lessons learned definitely for now.

I doubt whether you will have the wallet file in your backup, thou the wallet app itself could easily be restored. The other alternative would be not to install any app or copy any media into the phone and use a recovery software to first recovery all the deleted files and folders then locate the wallet file. But this is a long shot and might not be worth it.
If this is a serious option - what software would that be or is there anywhere a tutorial how to or something? As I said initially: I can't imagine that I am the first one with this specific problem.

Thank you and best regards

SD

Hi there,

I guess I am not the first one with my current problem, but although I guess there is no way to find a solution, I would at least try to write it down here:

I also lost some BTC with my Jaxx-Wallet (fortunately just 0,01xxsomthing) and here is how it happend: I am using an iPhone X and there occurred a Problem with the automatic updating. Somehow it stopped at V13.something of iOS. So I needed to update it manually via iTunes on the current 14.2. But that was just possible by doing a reset to factory defaults/settings. However, before I saved of course a backup of my iPhone with the expectation that it is restored 1:1 as before.

But it didn't. All Music was lost and all Banking-Apps need to be new configurated, but that not of matter here. But what it is: Also the Jaxx Wallet was like I had it installed just the first time.

And this was surprising for me. I don't know when I used Jaxx the last time. The reason why I had 0,01xxx BTC on it was basically just IF I'd ever come in a situation to pay with BTC I had directly some with me (but so far I never have had the option ;-). However, undoubtedly it is also a smart feature to create a seed and so on before you initially use the Wallet. But when I first downloaded / used Jaxx, this security feature wasn't obviously standard, so I didn't have to do that :-/ And so far the Wallet went through every update without any problems. Admittedly, I don't know when I had a (deep) look into the wallet, but if it had come to my attention, that there was an option to write up the seed/private key, I would have done it for sure :-/

However, so here is my question: I have still my iPhone Backup, and I am asking if there isn't still my "old" version of Jaxx on it, with the mentioned 0,01xxx on it, respectively, if yes, is there a possibility to access it?

Is that somehow possible or are these coins most likely lost forever?

Thank you in advance for any help

I found it difficult to understand your topic but I think you are referring to Initializing Wallet's problem.
jaxx is shit,  if you have wallet seed, download electrum ---> New/Restore ---->  enter any name ---> Standard wallet -----> "I already have a seed" ---> write it.  (Bitcoin case)
Private Key: In Jaxx Menu ---> Tools -----> Display Private Keys -----> copy it, In electrum ---> New/Restore ---->  enter any name ----> Import Bitcoin address or private keys.

If you have more than one cryptocurrency, try this solution ----> https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/63804/restore-wallet-from-jaxx-to-coinomi-eth-missing-but-btc-and-ltc-are-fine

Jaxx is a horrible wallet. Just like Exodus.
Yeah, I've tried both and I can't say I was impressed with either one--and that doesn't even include the issues you mentioned regarding security.

Another alternative is hardware wallet like Ledger Nano it is recommended if you want to hold a big amount this is the best option for altcoin and bitcoin wallet.

If you hold a lot of altcoins, a hardware wallet is definitely the best route to take IMO, and I think for most people the Ledger can do it all.  And if you only have a couple alts, I'd probably not use a multi-coin wallet at all but one made for the specific coin, e.g., Electrum for Dash.

Jaxx is a horrible wallet. Just like Exodus.

Both store all the private information unencrypted on the hard drive.
This basically means.. give anyone 20 seconds access to your computer or let him plug in an USB device for 3 seconds and all of your funds are gone.
They have a horrible security concept.

It really wouldn't be a lot of effort to implement encryption. A lot of (good) wallets do exactly that (e.g. core, electrum, wasabi).

IMO every wallet which stores private keys and other sensitive data unencrypted on the hard drive, should be avoided at all costs.

Honestly, after I heard a lot of issues about Jaxx wallet I stop using them before.

Look at this list of threads below.

- JAXX Bitcoin/Ethereum wallet - DO NOT USE
- Jaxx just made me lose .50 bitcoin
- Think my BTC got stolen in Jaxx Wallet....
- Jaxx, continuous transaction failed
- Missing funds from my JAXX wallet

I don't trust this 3rd party wallet which actually has many bad reviews.

If you want to use a 3rd party wallet for all of your crypto I suggest you to try Coinomi wallet but I mostly use it for mobile I don't know if the PC version works well but never heard any issue yet.

Another alternative is hardware wallet like Ledger Nano it is recommended if you want to hold a big amount this is the best option for altcoin and bitcoin wallet.

In a distant faraway galaxy a times, I installed a wallet attracted design and ... how multi.

I apologize for my English &
sorry if I created a topic not there please transfer it

Set some kind of password for access. Tried to save the phrase for recovery, but looking at an not a UI/UF recovery form, waved.

Just a short while ago I needed a wallet. From a hurry launched this jaxx, without memory that the application starts without authorization, as on alternatives (elecrum, multibit) ->
Money is accepted, but then you can’t manage it, they supposedly hangs. Which can directly and 70% + indicate that this is scam and scammers. Especially when the creators of the same people are at the source.

The same meaning as you launch the application, you are assigned a bunch of IDs, a huge number of network interactions and transfers to the yaks servers are made.
A huge even I would say for the application on the nodejs + go + more new "frameworks (angular, react).

Support thatstates that it responds for a maximum of 30 minutes, responds for several hours and very briefly does not even show any desire to help. And at the moment it has maintained silence for the 6th day => which can only confirm my fears about scam.
