Yea.. I'm going to agree with almost everyone here that adding such widget only adds unnecessary clutter to the forum. It's not like it's super difficult to open a new browser tab to Coinmarketcap or whatever marketcap site you're using; and not to mention that I don't think it's really healthy to be looking at the prices on the minute. Think long term!

I just closed a tab that I opened to check the price of bitcoin and it was not a hassle at all. There are so many projects which are in the works and this is not a necessity.

Also, people are on the forum for different reasons, and some may not be interested in the market prices of cryptocurrency at a certain time but want to join discussions on the forum.
If this is ever to be implemented, I would suggest it is limited to the (bitcoin) speculation board for bitcoin prices and (altcoin) speculation board for altcoin prices.

I am pretty sure such a change is not gonna happen to Bitcointalk... at least not when Theymos is admin.  He prefers keeping the forum simple, light and clean and i personally love it this way.

If you want to view crypto prices, then you will have to download standalone widgets. Not the wisest suggestion given that there are lots of Malware out there but if you feel you badly need one, then you have to take extra measure to get a trusted one.

I use BitTab widget since i am an active trader and would love to keep an eye on the prices most of the time. It's not open source however, it's one of the few popular ones and also highly customizable to your liking.

Of course i had to first scan the file a couple of times before installing and also look up for its reviews online. The free version is more than enough for a couple of coin prices.

There are other  standalone widgets too, you can look them up... Just be careful of malware

I don't see why people can't simply open a new tab at preev, bitcoinwisdom or whatever, there are plenty of websites which show in the title the current price of the pair you choose.
And this also solves the unnecessary bandwidth issue and it covers all the pairs the users would want.

So no, really, a widget is just not necessary.

Last time I was it discussed was here: Add real-time Bitcoin price in the forum, but it did not pick-up much traction.

Someone did go ahead and create Chrome extension to display BTC and ETH price (see re: Bitcointalk Extension - All In One - Available on Chrome store - Version 2.5 ), although I personally do not like installing extensions of any sort if avoidable (as is the case).

A price widget that shows the current price of Bitcoin would be a nice feature. But only Bitcoin. This is The Bitcoin forum after all. Showing the price of altcoins will just create unnecessary discussion. Why is ETH there and not EOS? EOS sucks, Stellar is better. No it's not, Tezos is the future...etc etc.

But seeing that we will move to a new forum sometimes in the future I doubt we will see big changes being made.

If you do a search you will see this has been suggested at least a dozen of times. Whilst I wouldn't be against it I don't think it's necessary and as Jetcash said it's not hard to check the price yourself and there are also dozens of apps and sites for this.

It would be a waste of bandwidth. If you want the prices for trading, then you can get better info by opening an exchange window. If you aren't trading, then the hourly price changes don't matter.

Have you ever visited a forum like nulled.to?
They have a widget on the right side of the page, showing the current BTC,ETH and Ripple prices, which are constantly updated.
Maybe it would be nice if we have such widget on top of the forum page.
Nevermind,it's just a suggestion.
