0.22 should work with 0.96.5. There are no changes to the P2P layer nor block/tx serialization. Armory will simply ignore the taproot scripts.
I can confirm that this is indeed the case. I have been running Armory 0.96.5 and Bitcoin Core v0.22 without any major problems.

On a side note, 0.96.5 ArmoryDB chokes on the testnet now. Someone mined malformed multisig scripts.
Definitely ran into this error tho! Undecided

Are we okay to upgrade to Core v0.22.0 or should we stay on Core v0.21.1 until Armory v0.97 release?

Thank you.

I have Bitcoin Core 0.21.0 right now and it's complaining about "Warning: unknown rules activated (versionbit 2)". Probably something to do with taproot. So before I upgrade Bitcoin Core, just wanted to make sure Armory is compatible.
Yes, it's fine... I'm currently running 0.21.1 and it works completely fine with Armory 0.96.5. I don't anticipate any issues or breaking changes with the upcoming 0.22 either, but it's impossible to say 100% until it has actually been released.

Disregard the warning. It simply means the node cannot understand the bits that signal Taproot. It doesn't affect your ability to make transactions or discover peers in any way.

Bitcoin core 0.22? Where did you see that?
The latest version of Bitcoin core is 0.21.1 and is compatible with the latest version of Armory which is 0.96.5.

Also note that the warning you are referring to doesn't make bitcoin core not work properly. For more information about the warning, click here to read the post made by NotATether in another thread.
