Any guesses as to whether BTC can make another run during the 2nd week of December when CME is slated to go 'live' with the futures trading?

Seems like they've firmed the date up:

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/not-going-to-let-it-go-to-zero-cme-chief-downplays-fears-ahead-of-december-bitcoin-futures-launch/

Hopefully BTC will start another nice run and get out of the doldrums created by Ver and his gang.
Op, your prediction happen was too small for Bitcoin price movement. What we are currently talking about is $10,000 before end of December this year for $8000 resistance was break today despite the fact that it later decline below the height of  $8000 there full hope reaching  $10,000 before end of December this year.

Who needs whose approval?

CME needs approval from CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission) if they want to actually offer Bitcoin centered future trading. It's basically the same as how things were with the previous ETF's - these financial products need regulatory approval. Good thing is that we will likely see them approve or reject their plans before the end of this year. In a perfect situation, institutions will be able to jump into this market this year, or ultimately, somewhere in the first month of 2018. If the market is indeed increasing due to CME, we will likely face a dump after rejection, so it will be interesting to see how things will play out.

I'm not sure that CME will affect Bitcoin, namely CME makes Bitcoin price increases. however Bitcoin will hitting $ 8000 in December is quite possible
This recovery phase is quite robust

If they can pause the market for whatever reason, what other tools do they have to control the market?

Considering the frequent volatility, and then also taking the intensity of the volatility in mind, one doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to see that they will halt their market on a very frequent basis. Cheesy

He did say they would tame Bitcoin.

But before everyone starts worrying about what might or might now happen, let them first get their approval, because if that isn't the case, there will be no CME involvement in Bitcoin.

After looking at the rising market of bitcoin it seems clear that it will easily go up and could easily reach 8000$ by 2nd week of december. But this extreme raise in price in a very short time conveys that bitcoin is becoming more volatile than before and could drop at any time.

Cheesy It will not have an impact on this market since all their Bitcoin related financial instruments they use are tied to the rates of the higher tier Bitcoin exchanges. In other words, our exchanges will still be the main cause of CME temporarily halting their markets. But before everyone starts worrying about what might or might now happen, let them first get their approval, because if that isn't the case, there will be no CME involvement in Bitcoin.

It's interesting how Terry Duffy said "I should not be trying to predict the price of products. I'm here to manage the risks of products"
I think if what Terry Duffy will do succeed then the price will exceed 8k, maybe up to 10k before the end of the year.

Good chance $8k is the new bottom by then OP. Wink

it looks the community will try to think for a twice to accept the bitcoin segwit 2x apdate to decrease the fees of the bitcoin transaction. we know the bitcoin transaction fees goes to the sun right now.

This problem will always occurs when there are limits to a size and ppl need to pay to get served first.
If there are no limits in size and/or no fees it will be abused/over used.

The price will definitely get bumped up by this, and will generate a lot more publicity for bitcoin. As the saying goes any publicity is good publicity. However, i just don't know how this will influence the pricing in the long term.

I'm not a fan of futures trading or high leveraging.

Basically a recipe for market manipulation, especially on such a large scale market.

I dont think its certain because price rises in anticipation of events like this.   Buy the rumour, sell the news is the famous saying which probably fits this also.    CME adds leverage to BTC involvement possibly and maybe a wider audience Im not sure, I think its just speculators not as much investors who take a contract this way ?

The other thing is that it might add sellers who want to short Bitcoin.   This is easier to do in dollar denominated assets then bitcoin which is inherently resistant to leverage, Im not sure but its not a one way street.   With volatility I think CME requires greater amounts of deposit to match positions in any contracted trade, so we might see more selling from this or greater trends then previously.

The reason I commented really was to say to OP, $10,000 not 8,000 is more like a correct target if much real effect is felt by the market.  People might have an idea of IPO and a vast influx but my guess its quieter.
The other scenario its just a paper setup and not much actual difference in trade volume is observed ( this year)

The price has recovered extremely strongly to back over $7k. The failure of Segwit2x and the resulting fall now seem like a bad dream. I wouldn't be surprised if we crossed $8k in November itself.
We have crossed 8k just in short time. but the next will be above 8k. As the cancellation of the segwit2x and with a lot of the attacks from the bitcoin cash shit fans that was really hurting the price of bitcoin. but they are know the fact bitcoin is only the one.

$8k is already a small amount as that is imminent already. I foresee bitcoin's value going far more than that.
Roger and Jihan cannot harass bitcoin and the stunts they have pulled normally would only have lasted for a short period of time with or without CME. However, the CME news will cause a huge boom for the value of bitcoin, but we still have to be on the watch out as well.

Looks like we'll reach the 8K mark this month itself. I read somewhere that there is no major resistance for Bitcoin until $10,000. So hopefully by the end of this year, we may be able to breach $10K.

I thinks its already going to target more earlier. Now around 7500 level and seems like in few days we will see 8000 easy
This will open doors to 10.000 usd in a month.

We are now getting close to $8,000 and as long as we are good with $7,000 as floor price I'm confidently going to keep on holding my bitcoin. And if bitcoin will be getting through and breaking barrier of $8,000, let's expect that $10,000 is so close. But don't forget that there will be some correction that might happen along the way of bitcoin at the top of the peak.

Nope, it seems some people are spreading about the rumour of comeback bitcoin segwit 2x in the future. You are correct, such a recovery of bitcoin. Today the price continue to climb to $7500 and what? it just $500 before we can get it $8000. So its really possible to get it before December and at the end of the year the much awaited $10000 is the target. So guys just give holding our bitcoin and do not sell it off.

Possible to see a dump when they started to get in with bitcoin. But the first trial will be a positive one to bitcoin, many will also chase up the profits that they can make. And traders now are too wise when it comes to these news, it's either they'll invest and sell later for the profits and will be monitoring the movements after they adopted.

There's a chance that it can hit $8,000 but still be vigilant and don't be too confident.

I am also hoping that it will. Bitcoin was already having a market value of 7400$ lately but it just happened that its value fell because of what happened with the segwit2x supposedly this month. I think it won't be able to reach 10000$ before this year end which was expected before when the hardfork is not yet cancelled. But i think it will break the 8000-dollar mark since it is now starting to recover from the downfall recently.
in fact, I would not be so categorical in my forecasts for the future of the near future prices for Bitcoin. I think that for the last year Bitcoin showed not only risking a fall, but also practical jumps to the moon of its price. Therefore, not only 8,000 dollars, but also 10,000 dollars is quite real. but with regard to the fact that today it will arrive at Bitcoin pricing, it is rather difficult to forecast, because we already see the Bitcoin Cash fork, which begins to strive in the price to the Top and may become a competitor simply Bitcoin.

Last day bitcoin value are fall down in the market, however this time it was starting to recovered. Maybe we just trust to the potential of bitcoin, because no doubt that this coin are starting to rising up again this coming December, 2017.
We don't need to panic selling due to fall down of bitcoin value, because all we need to do is to wait and hold it for long run of time.

At the moment I can see it will happen since bitcoin slowly but sure back to $ 7000 after yesterday downtrend

Cannot speculate on price on this event.

Remember the central-bank-fiat-institutions can manipulate asset prices with derivatives.

Will futures introduce similar manipulation (as gold, stock, RE) after a period of years if more and more funds use futures/derivatives instead of underlying actual bitcoins?

That is why, ALWAYS rely on accumulating real, actual Bitcoins, they are true and scarce.

It's difficult to say because bitcoin value generally depend on supply and demand so it become advantage for whale trader as they can control bitcoin value globally

As of now the price of bitcoin is already 6900 dollars price and for sure it will continue to increase in the future.
More bitcoin that you have more money to come buy bitcoin because they have possibke the price become 8k dollars maybe this month and you will not wait the month of december because the possible price is 9k dollars plus for sure.

If the scheduled launch will push through there is a high probability to hit the $8k by the end of this year. The demand for bitcoin will be a competition for both current bitcoin investors and investors coming from CME. It is more likely some traders from the CME community will try to explore and to take a bite to invest in bitcoin.

Crypto futures may be just another exchange where crypto is traded. There probably won't be anything groundbreaking or noteworthy about it. Gold and equities futures markets trade in the off hours of their trading days. Crypto trading is 24/7. There will be no true futures market in crypto as trading hours aren't limited. Futures will be just another exchange. It probably won't matter at all.

The main relevence of crypto futures is, it could open the door to crypto ETF's (exchange traded funds) sooner rather than later. It could legitimize crypto and serve as an indirect endorsement.

Yep, 1 step closer to ETFs.. eventually Forex. I know it's baby steps, but the CME thing is one of the most significant things that can happen to legitimize it. It comes at a much needed time as far as some good news and regaining the hype.

I think 8k is lowballing it. If CME is a success, the price will be much higher by the end of the year, maybe around the $10k mark (i think this will take a while to get over because of the psychological barrier it will be, with many people taking profits).

The fact that the CME will issue a future contract on BTC is a highly positive signal. It demonstrates that bitcoin is a trustworthy financial underlying, with enough liquidity and stability to be eligible for a Future contract.

It doesn't mean that the price will go up though: the value of bitcoin keeps depending on supply and demand; the price of the contract will follow its underlying. I would say that it might reduce the volatility of the currency since many investors will prefer to play on the future i/o the currency itself.

Bitcoin will hit 8k in December but it won't necessarily be because of the CME. There are already half of the total supply of bitcoins that have been distributed and I heard a stat of about roughly 25% of those bitcoins being lost. If you think about that and how much supply is left and match it with the demand which is huge, this is the driving force of the price IMO.

I guess the launch of trading in bitcoin futures on the largest exchange, which is under the control of regulators, can help the crypto-currencies gain official status in the financial world!

Any guesses as to whether BTC can make another run during the 2nd week of December when CME is slated to go 'live' with the futures trading?

Seems like they've firmed the date up:

Hopefully BTC will start another nice run and get out of the doldrums created by Ver and his gang.

We are really hopefully the price of bitcoin will soar again before the end of next year and more positive as regards the second week in December. There has been a recent panic withdrawals probably due to the festive season approaching and people also wanting to convert to fiat and spend with ease. Believe with time when bitcoin is more accepted, then there can be stability during this periods without it affecting demand and supply. Also attributing the price fluctuations to the high transaction fees which I hear is now adjusting.

I'm looking at 10,000 by maybe early next year. That's no doubt it will go 8,000 in the next few weeks. Once CME will run it will help boost bitcoin and it will become untouchable. I'm holding tight to my coins. I feel very positive on this.

I guess it will, but at the same time January will be super volatile, and it will probably have a correction not much later.

Why do you think January will be volatile? Just curious..not doubting. Post-holiday slump?

We are not future tellers so don't expect to get the right answer. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Bitcoin reached even $10000 by the end of this year. Bitcoin has a bright future, cryptocurrencies will take over the world in the future. Too many people have already invested in Bitcoin so it obviously can't decline to zero. It is just a matter of time before 0,001 BTC will become a huge amount of money.

I'm just asking mainly because I hope to see BTC break free from this whole attack by Ver and company and I'm excited that CME is firming up their timeline and showing their commitment.
The holiday season does worry me a little, but if it goes down, it will hopefully be a buying opportunity!
Still going to HODL very long term.
I can't wait until there's ETFs and eventually an option to invest via my retirement plan through work.

Now it is quite difficult to predict the price of bitcoin by the end of the year due to the activity of bitcoin cash developers and the movement of this coin. In addition, many began to sell bitcoin and partially invest in bitcoin cash. In this regard, bitcoin may be feverish for a while. This can slow down its further growth.

I think by the end of December we will see Bitcoin start to stabilize, more toward the $4,000 per coin.  I think right now we are saying a "fake" high and it will eventually correct itself.  Hopefully I am wrong just my thoughts on the subject.

If Bitcoin hits CME in December , it is very likely we can see Bitcoin price at 9K USD. Because it will be a huge milestone for Bitcoin.

It can be that bitcoin will touch the 8k mark in coming december. And i think bitcoin will touch 10k in the next year.
There are many people were saying that BCH will cross btc but in the last of the day , bitcoin is running smoothly and it is going to touch 8k mark soon.
That's good news for me  Grin  Wink

I think that it is possible at all, they are going to start trading on futures but not in december, FAIK the futures of bitcoin are going to start being tradeable once that 2017 is over, so it means that in january it is going to be ready.
But i think that we are going to be on $8k before all this thing from the cme, maybe we are going to see that price much more time before december. It is just matter of time until we see all this dump over for bitcoin, so i think that we are going to recover to $8k soon.

I can't comment on the price it is going to score, but one thing is sure that, the market is going to see a very positive impact if CME finally rolls out the product. The recent pump and dump scenario created by the criminal trio is going to be doomed because they will need billion dollars to manipulate the bitcoin price. CME is a cash rich corporation so it will not be easy for anyone to play with the bitcoin price afterwards.

The possibilities are lesser right now because the crypto market is facing an upward trend for bitcoin cash and a few more altcoins whereas there is comparatively low demand for bitcoin. But you can't say every time on what can happen, maybe bitcoin will hit the 8k dollar mark and even hit 10,000$ before 2018. As you must have already seen or heard stock market people aren't much a fan of bitcoin and they wont let bitcoin to rise much under their supervision and there is a great contingency of bitcoin's potential to be dumped in a grave yard.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody

I'm sure it will increase the price but it will also add to volatility. We have to remember that futures investors have a lot of money to flood in but they will quickly withdraw if there are any rumors or the profitability is too low, so we can have an ATH followed by a crash. You just never know with these things.
