Bitcointalk will always be the big target for attackers.

A better question would be:

Will Bitcointalk survive the next big attack?

It's all about the game, and how you play it

China wouldn't need to do any of that stuff, they have the worlds biggest mining rig after all.

On the other hand, I did happen to see some empty pudding packs when signing in today...

2.5 petaflops on a network rated for 136 petaflops ... well it'd make sense to solo mine there at least

The chinese would likely either use a far more or far less sophisticated attack, either by creating a botnet and slowly subverting the majority of the network (easy to manage when miners are droping off just program each new bot to be triggered by a diffrent expected difficulty) maintaining overall difficulty. Or simply swamping the network with all power at their disposal at once (the 10% difficulty drop would be negligible to the chinese long term and not worth the effort of ddosing pools hours before hand)

attacking the IRC would be logical as well, however i belive the attack on the pools is driven by pure profit motive

That came to mind as well, I was leaning towards even China maybe. Attack the pools, mine like no tomorrow. So many scenarios as into who. China popped in the back of my mind though.

That's because here in america we're all afraid of china regardless if we should be or not

It came to mind because I seen an article where china jump all in for bitcoin mining then this happened. But like I said, so many scenarios as into who, china, SC users retaliating, DeathAndTaxes stating btguild said could be a pissed off botnet, just imo. Hopefully it'll be over soon.

If it is China that is behind this attack, then bitcoin will likely get some press.

attacking the IRC would be logical as well, however i belive the attack on the pools is driven by pure profit motive in which case attacking the forum is irrelevant

Mark offered to put the forum behind Prolexic. (This might have already been done -- I don't know.)

Wicked. Hopefully it is so we all still can stay in touch.

Will Bitcointalk be under attack soon? As the pools are getting hit hard. If I was the attacker, I'd attack the top 3 bitcoin forums as well.

What are your thoughts?
