Another option: they can't cover the losses out of their own pockets, therefor from now on they run as a "fractional reserve" (like Mt.Gox did for a long time).

Do you think bitstamp has made enough money on the past to cover their losses? Are the owners better off keeping the exchange or wrapping it up? These are the main questions I am asking myself. I honestly hope they pull through. It is going to be difficult.

I chose the option 2. They're just packing everything up and will soon go away for good. Sorry investors but I just say it how I see it.

You forgot: "I don't know."

Personally I really don't know. But I hope the best. If Bitstamp would be gone, then all big Western Exchanges would have disappeared. With the exception perhaps of BTC-e. What an irony.

it will remain Bitfinex too

stalling excuses then the inevidable.

even if they manage to avoid bankruptcy, they are done.  Would you want to use that exchange again?!  Back in 2011 with Gox, you don't have too many choices, now there are numerous alternatives.

Hackers are caught and money recovered is what I would like to see, but I consider it the least likely option. I cannot think of any exchange hacker that has been caught yet.
