It was not. Everything you have to know has been posted in the first reply of this thread. Maybe read first, comment later?

I hope not. Forum should be easy to navigate, clear and simple for everybody. This forum now is like this. It require no upgrade/change.
Upgrade/change could actually make it worse. I wouldn't risk it. Its perfect as is.

I don't think visuals is a big issue, most will want to use it on portable devices so we can post messages on the go. Some type of secure app would be great, but i'm guessing it just wouldn't be safe enough. If visuals improved and it was more reactive to screen sizes then that would be awesome

I don't think it looks bad, but some functionality and usability improvements could be implemented. I'm pretty sure SMF (forum engine this board is using) has many plugins that could be used to enhance BTCtalk.
Oh, mobile version is what I need the most. It's almost impossible to read/ write this board when using smartphone.

i would be kinda sad if the forum had a flashy redesign. i really don't care how it looks. all i want is for it to impart information in an efficient and clean manner. the form it's in now does a great job of that.

I agree. When I started using this forum I also felt it a bit old and too simple. But I really like it now.

Also, I believe this theme must have some sentimental value to many old members and even to theymos.

exactly.
i haven't checked the new version recently but i remember that it was heavy on the javascript which made it even bad as you had to enable it in your browser and many users don't want to do that. so that is another problem to have in mind!

but posters now seem to rely on copying other people's images, instead of writing a bit of text.

Some people think picture means a thousands of words so it doesn't matter of what they write since the picture tells it all.

Maybe, it's more attractive if it's not just a plain white and blue but rather to put some other color, I don't mean to have it like a rainbow color but maybe put some shade and that it's more appealing to read.

Come on I'm a designer by trade and education, I'm not talking making it have silly bells and whistles...

Im a firm believer in simplicity, my favourite designer is John Maeda who was employed by a lot of the VCR companies from the 80's and 90's to solve the problem of all the silly buttons on VCRs and not just hiding them behind a panel. There is a lot of visual noise and content which doesn't need to be show, could be cleaner etc.

"visually attractive" tends to mean " lets appeal to the people who can't read and write easily". I hate these pages which are usually far harder to read, and I've left several forums because of excessive formatting. I am fortunate in that I was taught to read and write at an early age, and I am still able to read books. It is useful to add a statistical graph or some other supporting image, but posters now seem to rely on copying other people's images, instead of writing a bit of text.

What mocacinno stated is a visually-appealing and more powerful form in terms of functionality and design. However, epochtalk has been in the works for almost 2 years now and apparently, we are still not ready to transfer over to the said forum given that data migration takes time and there are a lot of things that needed fixing. For now though, bitcointalk is a straightforward hub for anything bitcoin and crypto-related and it still does its job. Many businesses are still using this forum since it's still effective to use it for marketing purposes and whatnot.

Jesus!! thanks... I don't know why I hadn't came across all those threads before.. least its clearly being talked about..Ill be employable for my design skills if a new site which is vector friendly comes along.. right now I wouldn't even bother to touch signature design, or campaign designs they all look pretty ugly.

Thanks Again..

Let's hope not another decades later. This visual thing (with notifications etc) is used to attract other users to move into other forums. Not really a problem for me though.

You are right the forum would not hurt a new guise, but at the moment it is not the primary task. Now it is important to implement a two-factor authentication system on the website. That should be the first priority.
The second main task is the issue with spam in the section altcoins, speculation, etc.

I can't help but feeling that BTT is a little visually dated, BBcode isn't the most friendly to create mediocre visuals. All the visuals are bitmap or jpg based, while vector would be more appropriate. its not mobile friendly...

Has there ever been a conversation about migrating to a more up to date modern version of the forum... or will we keep this going due to nostalgia and Satoshi Nakamoto?
