Russia is not the same country now.
Oh, really? What did changed since Soviet times. Authority in hands of one person, they still occupy countries or parts of it - Crimea, Eastern Ukraine, part of Georgia, they killing opposition politicans and journalist. How we can talk about union with Russia in current situation. You say that UK attacking and blaming Russia, but it's not without any reasons.
Who is friends of Russia? Ok Hungary and few countries small countries like Moldova. Who else? Post-soviet countries with regime authority like Belarus, Turkmenistan. Kazakhstan and others.
European countries, especially eastern part of it fear of Russia. And now Europe forced to have close links with Russia because they need gas and other resources. And in my opinion some countries Germany or France behaving hypocritical a bit - in public they're negative about Russia and support sanctions, but in reality they're doing business with Russia.

Your question is twisted.
First of all Russia is not an European country, small percentage of  it is in Europe that does not make it European country .

They are an Eurasian country, and with three quarters of Russia's population being located in the European part of the country, it isn't unfair to call them European.

and politicians part of of the opposition which ended up killed or dead in mysterious circumstances (even if just half of it it's true), i don't think i would like to find out what a European Union with Russia in it would look like.

What draconian rules?
This is disgusting to even suggest because current regime of Russia  is dangerous to human life and freedom and stands against everything what EU stands for.

Draconian rules are rules that were imposed by the goverment, without much agreement or discussion. (in a very simple one line answer)

EU has a very good understanding of economics . They are one of very few governments who understands the necessity of financial discipline and understands what happens when spending gets out of the control. The share desire of spending money which is not yours* ( as governments or any other spender is spending borrowed money ) has to be controlled otherwise it leads to catastrophic consequences.

Russia isn't a dangerous to human life, and they share common interests with the EU.

Their corrupt and very dangerous tentacles are in much more then just in Hungary and  energy sector , regarding governments there is Czech Republics president .

The sad thing about energy is that EU had /has good chances to minimize their energy addiction from Russia by liquid gas terminals  but it seems that Russian money is paying off people.

Russia is mostly a corrupt kleptocracy with a GDP barely 30% higher than that of Florida, and net average monthly salaries comparable with Bulgaria, the poorest or the 2nd poorest EU member country, depending on which metrics you go by. Their strength lies mainly in their nuclear arsenal. The interventionism of the European Union governing bodies towards its members, while unfortunate, doesn't even come close to what we'd be getting if Eastern Europe was under Russian control. When it comes to economic and individual freedoms, everywhere Russia clawed their way in with its grubby paws - Transinistria, Donbass, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Crimea - the places remained or turned into prime shitholes.

Russia is not the same country now.

Britain has the British Empire, and that has morphed into the Eton/Oxford deep state. Global dynamics see many power shifts and changed associatiins.

Its rulers have the same ambitions though. Putin has said he regrets the collapse of the Soviet Union. He regrets the collapse of a brutal regime that slaughtered millions of its own citizens and subjected millions of others to prosecution, oppression, and other kinds of misery. That's a bit like Theresa May saying "fuck the EU, we want India and the US back". Even if she did - India and the US have nukes so there's that. Georgia and Estonia don't.

Russia already had half of Europe under its control for the better part of the 20th century. That didn't work well. They needed barb wire, walls even, and some serious military force just to keep people in.

Ironically Hungary was one of the first Eastern European countries to remove the border fence in 1989, not to mention the uprising of 1956. What is that saying about those who don't learn from history?

After all, Russia is the largest European country, and it has a very strong military force. The current so called European Union has turned out to be an asset funnel for the Banking Deep State, and seems intent on destroying itself by imposing more Draconian restrictions on existing members. The series of meetings between Victor Orban of Hungary and Vladimir Putin of Russia look as if they will result in increased economic cooperation. This is especially true in areas such as oil distribution and nuclear energy. The current EU is heavily dependent on Russian energy, and one wonders about the viability of EU manufacturing if they lose access to cheap Russian energy.

Hungary is not the only country that is disenchanted with the authoritarian EU, and is building links with Russia. It is my belief that the UK should seek trade agreements with Russia instead of attacking the country. Being a puppet ofthe Eton/Oxford elite isn't going to help Britain in the long term.
