to be fair this is more of a political topic rather than altcoin. They should consider using bitcoin too  although I can't see it happening. The fact is it's an opportunity to introduce a new currency because they have to.

Even if its not officially backed it could well exist and gain traction beside whatever Alex Salmond et al introduce after a period using the UK pound and it seems many are hoping so with scotcoin booming in the last 24hrs

What if Alec Salmond promotes its use beside his stated intention to continue to use the UK pound ....until it reaches critical size?
