Unless all miners and the Internet stop working, there is no way that cryptocurrency can collapse. With huge market capitalization right now and never before DeFis applications such as AMMs, lending and borrowing , liquidity mining,  yield farming, flash loans and some other application that would be impossible to implement in a centralized finance, it is unlike that crypto will be vanquished.

Think of this, these days cryptocurrency price movement (btc & other altcoins) is highly affected and dependent on the media. People now follow up closely with information around the world to know when to buy and dump a coin, as a result a simple occurrence because of the media might just cause a cryptocurrency value to go up or to come down.

Do you think the collapse of the media (Say a media blackout) can trigger the collapse of the value of cryptocurrencies?

I don't think the media shutdown will have a significant impact on the price of BTC and other cryptocurrencies. However, you are right that the media has an impact on crypto and very often it is through the media that the crypto market is manipulated. However, what exactly do we understand from the media? If we take all information platforms of all kinds, then I do not think that I will learn to turn off all of them at the same time, since it is irrational, if only you turn off the Internet or turn off all the power.

There is a lot of media coverage of the cryptocurrency market and the collapse of one media does not have too much impact on the market.
I think the market is still operating normally even if the media crashes.
Definitely right, if that time will come, I don't think so that it can crash or shall we say collapse the cryptocurrency. Media is somewhat an add on or helping hand to make crypto more known and attractive to many people. It is also one way that people can learn some knowledge about it.
So far we have seen a lot of media with negative views on the crypto market, even many governments are against the crypto market.
But the crypto market is still alive and well, so the collapse of a media or a government does not mean that the crypto market will follow.

The aspect of drastic change is indeed from the media, it spreads too quickly in any media, especially about the doge news which is currently being discussed a lot because people are famous and behind so many people following the information, from my opinion it is very influential aboutcrypto on social media..not only information when the price is highest..

I believe there is a good chance that we could potentially survive looong after the traditional media is gone. This is why I think crypto will not be impacted because let's face it we are in social media age now and the collapse of the regular media or a media blackout doesn't phase us because those can be gone and we will still talk with each other via social media and it will be fine.

I understand some people care about reading it on newspapers or watching it on TV but those are old peoples stuff nowadays, youtubers twitter influences tiktokers reddit and many other stuff like that ends up being more important than all those tv channels. This is why I agree that social media is another level and we are not going to get social media blackout, that is not possible, even if governments ban social media we still somehow can reach it via VPN without issue.

The opposite thing will happen. If the media will collapse and there will be no parties that can manipulate the cryptocurrency use the media.
We can remember it back a few years ago and we rarely got covered by media and crypto can still exist. Crypto was a technology and this will remain forever.
I think that media will always give a very big impact to the market for sure.
Of course the media has a huge influence on the crypto market. By covering the market it can cause the market to grow or decline.
However, if a certain media collapses, the crypto market will not be affected too much.

I remember my stance here was somewhat apologetic, in a sense that I tend to belittle what mainstream media can do to Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin. Many here are on the yes side, meaning that mainstream media will be able to destroy crypto. I remember that I defended Bitcoin and Crypto since the media and even governments tried to belittle crypto and miserably failed. This experiment with Cryptocurrency is already 12 years old and still not a single coin got destroyed by Mainstream media. So even if the "yes" men are plentiful. There would still be apologists like me ready to say "no, media alone cannot destroy cryptocurrency". Concerning the collapse of Media. I think I stated this clear, there are many types of media. Thousands of media outlets around the world. And you expect me to believe that all of them will collapse on all 200 plus countries on this planet?

Since people have seen the influence of media into crypto market movements, that's when they start buying or selling by basing on news. But if we start tracing back when crypto has just started, there is no big connection between crypto and media and investors only used their personal anlysis when to invest in crypto. It's just only today where big personalities have been affecting much the rise and fall of crypto price.

A lot of media have been collapsed already in the past but crypto never come to an end or even in a force shut down. Crypto will definitely live for another decade and its foundation will be even become stronger.
Mainstream and other media are different things though, we need to make sure of that. There has been bad news about bitcoin at all times on mainstream media, when you open up your TV and watch you will see that it is always going down according to them or will go down according to them and that is why I do not think that it is going to be that good.

However one thing is for sure if we are talking about social media that is another topic and that could impact bitcoin very badly. Hell even news websites of crypto world like cointelegraph or similar places do end up with bad news that impacts the bitcoin world more than the TV news people because they at least know what they are talking about. So if we can separate what we mean by "media" then we can know what is exactly the real reason why bitcoin can go down, some media can impact it while the others won't.

The media has a huge influence on the cryptocurrency market because many people invest based on the news.
If one day there is bad news about the market, the price will definitely fall

I agree. I see it the same way. The influence of media on crypto or bitcoin price was much higher in the past. It has also decreased with the number of professional traders that have come into the market.

The means of social communication are necessary because it is the spokesperson for everyone because we are a society.
It is obvious that we are concerned about the powerful influence it has among us that affects all markets, especially that of cryptocurrencies, which is volatile.
We have two problems that we should not ignore is to show that the use of energy consumption by bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is not as harmful as the use of other industries and that we have the mission of contributing to the use of cleaner energy.

Every time the Chinese government announces the reduction of bitcoin mining and trading in the nation, it creates a nervousness that causes the market to crash.

There is great optimism that the price of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies will recover as good news begins to appear and thus stimulate market supply and demand.

Quote
Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers compared crypto to gold as a safe haven asset.

“Crypto is here to stay, and probably here to stay as a kind of digital gold,” Summers said in an interview with David Westin on ”Bloomberg Wall Street Week.” “There’s a good prospect that crypto will be part of the system for quite a while to come.”

I agree that the media never played an important role. Maybe only when an expert or guru threw out some estimations about future prices but even then i wasn't of too much interest to anyone. The media today is even more irrelevant because most people consume their daily content in Youtube.
Yes, consuming too much daily content on YouTube is also not good because almost all the content on YouTube is the result of editing from the owner of the YouTube account itself, because their goal is to find a lot of viewers so that editing the content is as interesting as possible which is what it will be removes the authenticity of content in general.

I wouldn't say there is a too much or too less. Media consumption is also a question of experience. Over time you will find out which sources are reliable and valuable for your personal judgment. I can say that there are a few very informative youtube channels where the goal isn't any hidden agenda but really focuses on highly quality information and education.

I don't think so, mass media is only news for an event or situation. Keep in mind that cryptocurrency is a technology that is carried through the blockchain, of course to turn it off through even more advanced technology. The media is usually only a consideration for some people to make decisions. So it is not absolute that the media will kill the cryptocurrency world. No need to worry about the media cornering the crypto world, because on the other hand there will be media that are pro with the crypto world.
Its obvious to say that media these days are affecting the value of cryptocurrency just like news from big celebrities either positive or negative give an impact to crypto. But it doesn't mean that the existence of crypto is fully dependent on the media.

Crypto has definitely its own role to its users and investors just like media which also give service to the people. But the collapse of media won't bring end to crypto. And same goes to media too which i think is too far to be dead.

Well, you are certainly new and you probably don't understand why prices go up or down. The media today has some role, but it's not the most important and never has been. When a certain group of people wants a project, that group will have independent of what the media produces and talks about that project. If the media collapses the crypto world, it'll survive smoothly. For most people who are in crypto like anonymity and not exposure.

Do you think the collapse of the media (Say a media blackout) can trigger the collapse of the value of cryptocurrencies?
What media do you mean?
In my understanding, the collapse of the media seems difficult to happen. There are too many media that we can use, how can all the media collapse? As long as we have the internet, media will survive and the crypto world to exist in our life. We don't need to be afraid of the media, all parties support the media because it has a big role in our life nowadays.

The question of the thread is so hypothetical that most probably have trouble understanding it at all. In principle, one could also ask: Would the fall of a bag of rice in China cause a collapse of the crypto markets? This question would be just as plausible Cheesy

When I first saw the question, it raised my eyebrows and thought what kind of person asks something like this. Collapse of the media means the collapse of cryptocurrency? I mean why don't you just ask, "Will the collapse of the world be the collapse of cryptocurrency?". Do you think a media blackout is capable of stopping 9,000 plus cryptocurrencies in its tracks? And mind you we have the mainstream media and social media, you did not even stress which kind of media will collapse. Many have answered and I will stick with theirs. Collapse of media? In your dreams, mate.

Not really, how you do a total media blackout on this day an age? nobody I know who deals with crypto even older people who are new to this are watching CNN and the like, most of their info comes from social media and chat groups.

The real treat would be somebody cracking BTC or ETH, you would have a massive run to fiat from all the other altcoins trying to cash out before their coins are worth nothing and in the process the prices will plummet. This will basically destroy any confidence in crypto for years, maybe more.

The only connection of media and cryptocurrency is its influence and the news that it brings. Other than that there's no connect of cryptos market and the media.
Even if there's a collapse in media, there goes the continues trading and market of cryptocurrencies and the same goes apply for the opposite.

What do you mean by media? Which media are you talking about? The people I know who are interested in cryptocurrencies use the internet and the sources they can find there like websites or even scientific papers on research platforms. The rest of the media isn't that relevant for this area I thought. I have never seen it that way.

No, especially for Bitcoin.
Shitcoins will cease to exist though, because people mostly get the hypes from media actually.
Bitcoin even managed run on its own regardless of the news we got recently although people think that Musk caused the recent crash, but it is not.

It has always been highly affected by the media. The media spins stories all of the time,,, but let us admit it, it works both ways.

Media did all the hype news and helped to drive fomo and we were happy. Then media also did all the Fudding news and we were unhappy.

Why not just accept that the masses (us) still read and want to believe the media so just enjoy the rollercoaster and stick to our beliefs about crypto?

Is it even possible to have a media blackout and does it really have anything to do with the market valuation. In the past each and every news coming out of China had an impact on the market now what i have seen is that any tweets from Elon Musk is creating a buzz in the market, what i think is that these are momentary and it will change. The only concrete thing i can say is that when the institutional investors starts selling then it can trigger a collapse and nothing else.

with the media or in the absence of cryptocurrency media there will always be a strong community that will certainly continue to grow and will never back down because there will definitely be other altcoins to come. so the media is not a factor in determining the success or failure of an altcoin.

I guess not, they are just mediator. If the content that they serve is valid then that you think will be right, it means there is a main factor be it an adoption or crypto currency not a great place for an investment or a good tool to use. But, if the content that they serve is not valid, I mean they are trying to make FUD and make all crypto currency price decreased then it will just for a while. The crypto user will buy more when its price is low, take a look when bitcoin touched $3500 they were a lot of people who bought it and make another all time high like now.

Media was only used by some parties to create FOMO and FUD. So many times media and press release used to manipulate the market with so many fake news.
This is only contributing to the volatility of crypto but media has no power to make crypto becomes collapse. I think that you should know that if the tech will exist forever.
Crypto was starting from nothing to something. Media was only taking the advantage of it.

I think the media is getting bigger and bigger and they also make money from crypto. Remember that Bitcoin existed before the media talked about Bitcoin. Thanks to Bitcoin, professional crypto media was established.
With the speed of development of crypto and media, it is unlikely that the crypto market and the media will collapse together.
We can only see the media may have less coverage but they will not crash the market. Cryptocurrency market makers will come up with new trends and heat the market once again. Look at ICOs, IEOs, IDOs, DEFIs or NFTs, these trends have attracted a lot of media coverage. It is a fact that if the crypto market crashes, the media will crash.

It may not make crypto collapse but in another case that if it will be making crypto go down. Media plays a lot in the publication of crypto and this triggers the massive adoption in the cryptocurrency.
That being said that the media will have a very big impact but it will never make crypto go collapse. A few years ago crypto was not getting a lot of attention from the media and it could still exist till this day.
I think that's only a theory.

Certainly not. You're painting a scenario on the wall that won't happen without it having a huge effect on the entire world, not just the crypto markets. There was a discussion years ago that is very similar to your topic: what would happen if the power went out worldwide, a mega-blackout so to speak, then crypto would become worthless and unusable, and fiat would be the big winner. All such discussions are highly hypothetical.

Can you classify this media? Mainstream or social? A mainstream media blackout would surely have an impact but I don't think it would be that big because there's still social media which is more powerful now. If you're going to include social media blackout, then that's going to be tough to do. That might take shutting down the whole internet.

I agree also that shutting down the social media can have much bigger impact on cryptocurrencies. Because most of the people in the world follow social media for almost everything. For example, Elon Musk's tweets are very effective on people's cryptocurrency investments in the recent times.

It is not because of social media if it's about social media affecting cryptocurrency prices. Social media did help cryptocurrency being taught by those who already know it. I'll tell you something that myself know about cryptocurrency not because of social media but knowing it from someone I know. With the help of social media then discussing or sharing about cryptocurrency is shared not only on the other platform but also in social media which many people are using it now.

Media is just doing their usual stuff of paid reviews and shilling. Most of the media are just the speaker of some business or individuals and if you are talking about social media, here's where popular people make paid opinions and whales try to pump or dump a coin. Media has indeed given a rapid acknowledgement of crypto around the world but they have not much to offer to crypto development and adoption after this.

That's always been the case, it's not that we have seen first hand the effects of crypto media in our ecosystem. No. Crypto was flourishing even without the media and with a little help of them, crypto is already mainstream and crypto is in no way dependent on media. Media lately has been involved the same way they are involved in stock markets, creating FUDs and FOMOs. But crypto is totally dependent on internet, more than the media itself. It's internet whose collapse may lead to collapse of cryptocurrency.

I do not think that is because of the media. The crypto market will go up and down with or without media. But I admitted that media gives part to the market, such as if someone like Elon says something, that can make the price jump high or low. If the media is collapse, the crypto market will still exist and will not collapse because the crypto market will not just depend on the media. Media is just something to promote and people use the media to help them to gain more investor and supports.

The rise and fall of currency prices are often based on consensus,
However, a lot of information comes from news on various networks. Once negative news appears, the price of the currency will definitely fall in a short period of time.
I think the media is still an important means of publicity in the currency circle.
