Bitcoin in my opinion is a benchmark for other cryptos. If the price of Bitcoin drops deep, investors will naturally panic and sell their altcoins to USD to secure the value of their investment. This happens in my opinion because investor confidence in Bitcoin is very large and this can be seen in the dominance of transaction values in the market

Actually from what has happened so far, you can get what you ask for, when there is a correction against BTC, almost all altcoins will also experience a correction and tend to be larger, and that has been the case for years, Bitcoin will remain the strongest.
Yes, it is evidence that no one can deny because when Bitcoin is corrected, everyone prefers to save their assets into their own country's currency or into stablecoins in the crypto space, because no one wants to lose what they have earned.

The word "Alt-coin" should mean "Alternative Coins". And the word alternative in a layman's language should mean having an obvious option. Example, having an alternative plan means I can decide to use Plan B, most especially if plan A may not favour me at that time. Also, Coffee is an alternative to Tea, in this scenario, alternative is a choice and not a measure of importance. In a situation where an alternative is a choice, is therefore means that the Sorrow of one will be the pleasure of the alternative.

Relating this to cryptocurrency, if BTC who is the mother of Cryptocurrencies and who has gained extensive trust ceases to exist today, will altcoins flourish or will it make the people loose total interest in cryptocurrency.
the situation that occurs in the Altcoin market always follows the price of bitcoin in general, although there are some altcoins that make their own price changes, what I see is bitcoin which sorts all price movements up and down based on up and down charts on their own prices. Seeing this problem, Bitcoin has become the mother of all altcoins, of course the interest of crypto users if I see it is increasing.

Not all the times and you would able to definitely say that when you do have already gained up some experience on this market. This had always not be the case because price of bitcoin and altcoin wont really be that
correlating to each other it could neither Bitcoin is on the pumping state and so as with the altcoins will follow and wont really be making some opposite path but sometimes it is really on the dumping situation.

It is really hard to tell and that what makes this market unpredictable or cannot really be known in terms of making some patterns or presuming those similar scenario that do happen.

Its not bad to make out some presumptions but that would be entire be in random because sentiments or news could possibly affect movements.

if bitcoin has lost the trust of everyone then there are definitely no more cryptocurency users in the world. because bitcoin is the ICON of the world's cryptocurrency. Maybe many people don't know "altcoin" but everyone has heard the name "Bitcoin". so if bitcoin does not exist then cryptocurency will not exist.
There's no reason for altcoins to be in pleasure because once bitcoin loses its value, altcoins will definitely lose its value too. Yes, bitcoin is even more popular compared to altcoins and so people recognized bitcoin as the king of crypto while altcoins are only those coins used to become alternatives when they think bitcoin is not enough.

However, when the whole crypto market seems bullish because of bitcoin, eventually potential altcoins too will come up surging their prices. Only those altcoins with low potentials will remain undervalued.

I think that if the mother of cryptocurrency is lost, it is impossible, because Bitcoin (BTC) will definitely not be lost or muted in the crypto market, because no matter how altcoins grow like winter mushrooms, BTC and ETH will always accompany under them, ,,and I don't think cryptocurrency enthusiasts will easily disappear without an absolute ban by the local government

Yes, majority of the altcoins are also going to have their own corrections following bitcoin with that move. From time to time, that's always the thing about bitcoin and altcoins connection and even with Ethereum, it's also affected by bitcoin whenever the price falls.

Bitcoin will remain the strongest.
That's going to be the case as most of the time, bitcoin will remain to be at the top spot all the time. Despite many have thought and tried to pull it down, no one has ever been lucky and succeeded.

both have similarities and sometimes the dynamics that occur between bitcoin and altcoins are not in line, for example:
(when the price of bitcoin goes up, the price of altcoins goes down) this is the dynamic that happens with both of them.
examples that are aligned between the two are: (when bitcoin goes up the price of altcoins also goes up).
From the example I mentioned above, I don't think the level of trust in altcoins will be lost, especially altcoins that already have many uses.
With today's happening in the market, its not still bitcoin is up, then altcoins go down. What we sees in the market is that bitcoin and altcoins are definitely going the same way more likely moving upward. So i think with the pleasure of bitcoin, altcoins will feel the same way too. When bitcoin faces sorrow, altcoins are more likely in deep sorrow too.

This is an interesting question and in my opinion it will depend on the reason behind the supposed disappearance of bitcoin, if this happens because a flaw is found in the code and governments are able to destroy it or because there is a cataclysmic event so big that people need to go back to the Stone Age then there is no way for altcoins to take the place of bitcoin, however if this happens because a new coin is created that is many times better than bitcoin then it is obvious that alternative coins in that scenario will keep on existing and now are going to be based in this new superior coin.

The alternative was born from the many opportunities that exist, it can purely be used by individuals and globally, in the sense that what you mention has a broad meaning to be able to understand cryptocurrency itself, but overall the alternative was born from the right choice.

Bitcoin is a counterweight to existing altcoins, but there is no relationship in the development of the altcoin, whether or not an altcoin develops is greatly influenced by the seriousness of the coin in carrying out promotions and the team that works, this cannot be separated from the hard work of the altcoins themselves.

Bitcoin is the icon of cryptocurrency, there is no cryptocurrency without Bitcoin then there is no use of alternative coins like there is no main road to traverse to reach the destination, Bitcoin indirectly has a strong relationship with Altcoins but the role of bitcoin dominates 80% of cryptocurrencies.
There is no way that altcoins will come to celebrate bitcoin's sorrow because bitcoin will never be beaten by altcoins in the long run. As long as bitcoin remains to be the king of crypto, altcoins are more likely to follow bitcoin's destination. And if bitcoin losses its value, i don't think altcoins will ever come to survive too when the king of crypto has failed in its goal.

This statement is definitely wrong. Bitcoin is equivalent to a weathervane. When the price of Bitcoin drops, people will panic and sell other coins in their hands. Altcoins will also drop. Bitcoin affects the entire cryptocurrency market.
Yes, it has been proven long ago so there is nothing that cannot be denied because Bitcoin has become the benchmark for the entire cryptocurrency market and the benchmark for all cryptocurrency price resilience.

It could not be emphasized more that both Bitcoin and altcoin are equal in a way that these are all cryptocurrencies that exists in one market. So, when Bitcoin, the considered as the highest of them all starts falling, the same perspective will be assumed happening with every existing cryptocurrency as well. Thus, the fall of BTC cannot be a pleasure to altcoins because they are going down altogether if given the case.

Although there are only several altcoins like BCH, BSV built upon BTC(Bitcoin forks), all altcon follow Bitcoin’s global trends. It happens because if people see that BTC is falling and a bear market is possible, they get rid of altcoins first, as they are more risky. So the sorrow of Bitcoin is also the sorrow of altcoins. That is why if Bitcoin die out, people will just get disappointed in crypto.

If BTC crashes down, so will the altcoins. Because when I looked at the market, altcoins always follow Bitcoin. Bitcoin will always be greater and being crashed down is most likely never because they have the most trust.  Altcoins are not independent.

alternative is a choice and not a measure of importance
that can be your point of view but for others alternative means a lot to them or they use alternative as their primary instead of an option only like here im cryptos not all can afford to transact btc because withdrawal limits and fees are higher .
but when btc sorrow it will be hard to accept it at first by all crypto users and some of them could lose interest in cryptos but some alternative coin users will get happy because that event could make the altcoins growing .

this I think would be very unlikely as most altcoins are self-sufficient based on the Bitcoin protocol. The influence of bitcoin on the altcoin market is so great that when bitcoin drops in price, altcoins will wobble and fall

Don't expect to see bitcoin crashing hard and the opposite happen were altcoins are seeing green! This can't happen, bitcoin is the king that holds most of the liquidity, when btc is in sorrow so will the altcoins.

But with an exception of a few coins on the market,  some  can see minor gains were btc doesn't which is very normal.
Well, I used to think that a decrease in the price of bitcoin would be a good thing for altcoins. however, in reality it makes the price of altcoins also crash. In fact, what's even worse is, when the bitcoin price starts to recover, not all altcoins will recover in price. it depends on each altcoin again.

Once you think of it that way, then you might be invariably saying that the whole cryptocurrency market will cease to exist because I believe the Genesis of Bitcoin caused the existence of Altcoins and once the hope is lost for Bitcoin and it ceases to exist, there goes Altcoins too because I don't think Alts will be soo good to outlive Bitcoin someday.
If something suddenly happens to Bitcoin, why should  altcoins it also disappear because of this? In fact, they may well already exist on their own. Functionally, the Bitcoin problem should not affect them. Altcoins are only affected by the capitalization and price dominance of Bitcoin. If it does not exist, I believe that it will even have a positive effect on their further existence. After Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency market will probably no longer be dominated by only one coin. This will surely open up additional opportunities for them.

I get what you’re trying to say here. Alright, we all like Bitcoin and most of the people that are coming here are doing so because of Bitcoin, and their first investment goes into Bitcoin before any other cryptocurrency. And even the altcoins that we all see today all took inspiration from Bitcoin, if you have been around when it all started, they were called “shitcoins”.

Most people around the world that are not yet part of the cryptocurrency community have definitely heard of Bitcoin, but it’s less likely that they have heard the word altcoins, not to talk of hearing names like Ethereum, Cardano, Tron, Neo, and the rest of them. Bitcoin’s market cap covers like half of the whole market’s cap. So imagine that you wake up tomorrow and they said Bitcoin is no more, that it has been shut down or something like that. I bet you’re not going to waste time in dumping every altcoins you have. So if something happens to Bitcoin, it’s sure going to affect altcoins and they are going down with it.

usually when the price of bitcoin collapses it will make the conditions of the exchange worse because altcoins will definitely go red and a lot of prices will drop, so when the price of bitcoin is not good it will definitely be a nightmare for many other coins.

That is due to the fact that a large percentage of trade for the altcoins happens w.r.t Bitcoins. Altcoin vs fiat trade is usually smaller in volume. So when the Bitcoin prices go down, it is natural to expect the altcoins exchange rates to get negatively impacted. And also, in 99% of the cases investors of altcoins will be investing in Bitcoin as well. So the market fluctuations will have a strong interlink. The new projects will also get affected if there is a downturn in Bitcoin prices. Because the ICOs get most of the funding in the form of BTC or ETH.

yes you are right, therefore bitcoin is the center of the market. altcoins will always experience negative effects when bitcoin collapses. I've never seen a case of an altcoin rising when bitcoin fell. every time bitcoin falls, altcoins will fall following bitcoin.

I personally think that we have so many good crypto projects out there now that even if Bitcoin should fail for whatever reason (flaw in the code if that is possible or some other kind of hack or 51% attack or whatever) those projects could still thrive or maybe even grow, but i don't really think that this would happen. Just imagine Bitcoin suddenly "dies" with it's price going to 0 pretty fast, that would mean that 615B$ would be pretty much gone in an instant and i am pretty sure that those people that lost everything because of bitcoin would use their cash savings ever again to invest into any form of cryptocurrency even if they have nothing to do with bitcoin.

The old "when bitcoin goes down altcoins go up" thing doesn't exist anymore, the last year was the perfect example of that. Yeah there are times when bitcoin doesn't go up anymore while alts still do but that is just when bitcoin reaches its peak and we should have known a dip was coming from that. Otherwise I do not remember a time when bitcoin went down like 10% while alts still went up like crazy, that doesn't exist.

Good thing is the opposite is true as well, in the dollar value when bitcoin goes up then alts go up too. Like for example when bitcoin was around 10k, ethereum was around 200 bucks, when bitcoin reached 60k, ethereum was nearly 4k as well. So that means they all go up together, then they all go down together, it just works together these days. All those opposite moves were things that happened in the past and not anymore.

we know that BTC is the parent of crypto and will remain that way. although altcoin indirectly does not depend on BTC but if BTC disappears then I think Altcoin will also decrease its performance. to be honest I never thought if BTC will disappear because indirectly when knowing crypto then what I think is BTC. that indicates that BTC has a big role in crypto. I hope that it won't happen so that we can still make good use of crypto.

I haven't come across a case like this. because I've never seen an altcoin go up when bitcoin is down. bitcoin is the center of the market and when btc crashes all altcoins will suffer the impact of that crash. no altcoin has survived the fallout of bitcoin. even coins like ETH which is the biggest altcoin can't survive and end up crashing.

OP is perhaps talking about the Bitcoin dominance. A few months back, the Bitcoin dominance was 70%. And now it has come down to 45%. Some of that loss was due to stablecoins (their combined market cap is now greater than $100 billion). But most of it was due to the altcoins. During the last 12 months, most of the alts have witnessed a steep increase in their market cap. Ethereum is now trading at $2140, which represents a 900% increase from the level we had a year ago. During the same duration, Cardano went up by 20x, and Dogecoin by 100x.

Its depend on what background of the BTC ceases itself. I dont think its ceases because cryptocurrency is expired or something like that, i believe its ceases because theres an ultimate altcoin that take BTC throne and  being adopted as one of world payment system.

Bitcoin is king, altcoins are an alternative but in reality they are not purely independent, because we can see that when BTC goes down, it will affect other coins as well as when btc goes up, maybe altcoins will be very heavy if they have to survive when bitcoin has disappeared.
True, in general Altcoins will be very difficult to survive if Bitcoin is no longer in the crypto space, because until now the influence of Bitcoin for Altcoins is still very large and still very strong.

Probably yes, maybe some few outstanding alts projects like ADA will still survive despite btc not in the picture,  although I can't imagine what can make btc to seiz to exist so there is no need to even consider such scenario, but if for any reason such thing ever happens I believe some alts will still be alive to withstand the heat, blockchain is separate from btc and as long as blockchain still in existence there will be projects using it.

The answer is a big no. If Bitcoin ceases to exist today, I am 100% certain that the entire cryptocurrency market will fall crumbling to the ground and might not even recover for at least a century. The cryptocurrency market of today is highly dependent on Bitcoin and its success. Bitcoin's failure is a failure of the whole market.

I think it is also very obvious that every time the Bitcoin market is peppered with FUD and bad news, the whole of the cryptocurrency market is also down.
Absolutely no way! BTC has always led the markets of alts, the FUD around BTC atm is what's causing everything else to drop. You never hear regulation on any particular alt but BTC itself, and that is because BTC to this day stands as the bench market for all crypto assets. There'll be no decoupling from BTC for sometime, and alts can't have a strong emergence without the push from BTC.

The word “altcoins” appeared for the first time because they constitute alternative solutions to real problems in Bitcoin, and therefore 99.99% of these currencies are only alternative solutions to the basic problems of Bitcoin, which these currencies strive to solve.
Therefore, we will find that most of these currencies are worthless, and even the ones that have distinctively solved the problems of Bitcoin, revolve around the same philosophy. So you will not compete with Bitcoin.

In the scenario of bitcoin versus altcoins if you consider bitcoin to be "coffee" the altcoins are the leftover at the bottom of your coffee mug that you throw away. They pick that up, dust it up and sell it to people as "better bitcoin".

According to your own coffee and tea example, it therefore means that BTC has no alternative. Would that be true in a real sense?
It would be better you say that "After Bitcoin is bitcoin, then others coins". Even in  this case, there is still alternative coin.

Relating this to cryptocurrency, if BTC who is the mother of Cryptocurrencies and who has gained extensive trust ceases to exist today, will altcoins flourish or will it make the people loose total interest in cryptocurrency.
If BTC not exist one day, then my answer is  people will lose total interest in cryptocurrency,it can be interpreted as Bitcoin dies, altcoins die, Bitcoin flourishes, altcoins flourish.

Bitcoin and all the other altcoins belong to the same cryptocurrency industry so in general when the market for Bitcoin is going down or when in winter the same thing is happening to all. There can be some exemptions to this general rule but those are just footnotes in the more than a decade history of cryptocurrency. The sorrow of Bitcoin is the sorrow of all the other coins and tokens. That is a big fact. So those altcoins who are wishing that BTC will go down should think twice as the same fate can happen to them.

Well it indeed gained extensive trust from a lot of people. You can even mention that El Salvador made Bitcoin as a legal tender.
Your analogy is quite off though. I wouldn't consider coffee as an alternative to tea. Coffee still has a lot more caffeine than tea and I would choose coffee over tea any day.
I can say the same that I would prefer BTC over any altcoins.

I need to congratulate the OP for coming up with a title that is so poetic. If the sorrow of Bitcoin actually get converted to pleasure for the alts, I am afraid that the situation may not last for much longer. We saw this in 2014, and then again in 2018. It is very simple. The altcoins are incapable of independent existence without Bitcoin. In the initial stages, they may be able to leach a certain amount of market cap from Bitcoin. But the ultimately the altcoin bubble will burst because the valuation doesn't correspond to acceptability in the market.

Of course no, bitcoin and altcoins are like a pair of ears, complementary., both of them need each other, if there are no altcoins then maybe bitcoin is worthless, the thing that makes bitcoin skyrocket is altcoins that make bitcoin the standard price.

Many people agree that Bitcoin is the king of all cryptocurrencies. I can’t imagine that if Bitcoin falls one day, other altcoins will replace it, because I have been in this field for a relatively short time and I see a lot Altcoins will follow in the footsteps of Bitcoin. When Bitcoin rises, most of them will rise with it. When Bitcoin falls sharply, it seems that no altcoin is rising in the entire market. Many altcoins rely on the technology of Bitcoin. Although many of them have achieved innovation, I think they have not been able to surpass Bitcoin. I don’t know if other altcoins can replace Bitcoin in the future. So when Bitcoin is sad, no altcoin can be happy.

the crypto market was able to develop to this extent, all because of bitcoin. then if bitcoin crashes, there is no hope for altcoins. there will never be a time when altcoins are better off when bitcoin is down. bitcoin is a major draw for the market, so if bitcoin is in trouble it will have an impact on altcoins as a whole. maybe even bigger impact.

Bitcoin is king, altcoins are an alternative but in reality they are not purely independent, because we can see that when BTC goes down, it will affect other coins as well as when btc goes up, maybe altcoins will be very heavy if they have to survive when bitcoin has disappeared.

Yes, it's very clear because it has always been seen that when a Bitcoin crashes, Altcoins will also experience the same thing so no one will be happy because of this, so the main thing to always pay attention to is Bitcoin and nothing else.

Unfortunately, this very common understanding of the word 'alternative' is not working when it comes to Bitcoin and other coins/tokens. In many cases, when Bitcoin is bleeding, other coins can be bleeding even more. Though it was never all the times, of course. Right now, all coins are hemorrhaging - Bitcoin and alts. Actually, the concept between Bitcoin and alts is more of a brother and sister so whatever is happening with the older brother can also be affecting the other offspring. Here, there is no coffee and there is no tea.

Never say never, there is one thing that's certain in crypto space and that's 100% manipulation, we don't know what will happen in the future but now bitcoin indeed look like it's impossible to flip but anything is possible

One of the reasons why we had the sharp corrections in 2018 was due to the fact that the altcoin bubble burst at that time. And it looks as if the same is repeating now. Shitcoins such as Doge had gone up to unsustainable levels in the last few months. Some of the coins had gone up by a whooping 100x in the last 12 months. Obviously this sort of appreciation was not going to last, unless there is a corresponding rise in the acceptability and adoption levels. And from what I can see, these parameters have remained stagnant for most of the alts.

there is some use of these altcoins that will make people prefer to pick the alternative choice. XRP for instance has cheaper transaction fees which in my country coiners are using to cashout. instead of paying more when withdrawing from exchanges, we use xrp to withdraw from the exchange and then cash out.

that's another coffee flavor. for some users, its mainly for profit especially in the bear market where they could buy altcoins cheaper for like $0.02 per coin. what else is to lose when after 2-3 years the price will be $3-5. this is pleasure i guess.

First and foremost Bitcoin will not cease to exist just like that which means billions of dollars will evaporate like that, it is an impossible scenario and the other companies that popped up creating billions of dollars surround the entire cryptocurrency market.
Even in a hypothetical situation a demise of one coin will not affect the entire market but if there is a hindrance for Bitcoin then it will affect the entire market.

Well, there will be for sure another crypto that shall be trusted by the people. But that's so happened that bitcoin has been the first and it's also has proven to have a secured network that's why it won't cease to exist or operate. Because there's consensus on it and the track record of it cannot be changed. As for everybody who has been trusting bitcoin, it's not bad to look for some altcoins if you don't like them or don't afford them. But usually, when people say that bitcoin is expensive, they're eyeing another altcoin that seems to be cheaper and probably has the potential.

I haven't been here long enough to see the entire history of altcoins but I was lucky enough to see the true era of altcoins in 2017, which literally hundreds of new tokens put out by ICOs every day (mainly Ethereum but also counting all those other platforms like Waves which also pushed out hundreds).

Bitcoin sorrow is long but the sorrow for alts is even more so.

Most of the altcoins price will fall whenever the price of bitcoins falls. because most of the time those altcoins have no direct conversion to fiat instead, you need to convert it first to bitcoin then to fiat. so whenever the price of bitcoins has decreased in the market, you can see their price followed the crashed with different negative percentage. So you need to understand the risk whenever the price has dropped and most of the time you see will see it whenever the market is not doing good.

That is the definition that we hope for but it is far from reality. The world altcoin has turned into meaning "a useless garbage used for pump and dumping and nothing else".
The technology hasn't really grown that much in the altcoin scene for many years now. From time to time some very unpopular altcoins come along that try new ideas that were proposed years ago! And the majority of altcoins are copy pasting!

Take a look at altcoin prices each time bitcoin price has a small drop. For every 10% bitcoin drop they have 20% drop. You should know your answer already. If not see how useless altcoins are or what percentage of each altcoin's source code is identical to bitcoin!!!

Can't really say that if Bitcoin goes down.

While yes, Bitcoin is the OG, it paved the path for other coins. Unlike fiat, it's miles ahead of the it because we can trace transactions, adjust the fees and build apps/ NFTs on top of the blockchain.

Just like the money system, it won't totally die out because there's a need for it.

This silliness was debunked hundreds of years ago:

Quote from: Shakespeare
But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?
It is the blockchain, and bitcoin to the moon.
Arise, fair bitcoin, and kill the envious alts,
Who are already sick and pale with grief,
That thou, their forbearer, art far more fair than they.

All kidding aside, most alts that have been around for a while do have a use case.  Litecoin, is often more affordable to send, and lighter on equipment for hosting a node and mining; Monero has the ability to obfuscate transactions; ETH is good for smart contracts, and therefor tokens.

They all have their various issues whether with security, expensive fees, volatility, regulation, availability, or adoption.  Bitcoin has proven to be secure, resilient, and adaptable.  Segwit, and most recently TapRoot have contributed in keeping fees lower.

The next biggest blockchain, ETH has a host of issues, in my opinion.
