That case ins't going to work for a quad rig, the sapphire 5830's take up two slots each. The case has seven slots and you need eight. Really, you don't need a case, it would save you the $170 if you just left it in the open.

The motherboard, as someone else said (i think in the other thread) can only take three graphics cards without using pcie risers or extender cables. This guy sells them http://forum.bitcoin.org/?topic=6128.0

Also, in the other thread, you said that you have spare hard drives. Use those. Save money.

With ram, the one you listed is total overkill. All you need is a single, cheap 1GB stick. I got 4 x 1GB sticks off eBay for 13 USD.

I don't have an issue with the power supply, but for the price you are paying for the corsair you might want to look into PC power and cooling. They're pretty good.

The goal with building a mining rig is to spend as little money on parts that don't contribute to hash/s eg. ram, cpu, hdd, case, and most money should be spent on graphics cards, motherboards, and psu (you don't want to kill your investment with a crappy one).

I'm curious Tunes

Is that the best Motherboard recommendation you got, I came up with the same motherboard suggestion myself after a while as I wasn't getting much replies to my question.

It was suggested in the IRC channel and had generally positive responses, also one of the people I hassled the most (thank you grndzero!) is running this mobo/gpu setup, tbh I practically copied his setup and he is mining quite happily

i think i just threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw the price of those 5830s.

Have you looked at your profitability for this rig?

Hey there, the prices are not in USD (they are in New Zealand dollars), and since we are a small country even after the exchange rate we still pay a fair bit more for components than in the US.

Ah ok that makes it a bit more reasonable

Well congrats on getting the mobo CPU compatability right now. Smiley

Even though the mobo specs say it has 4 PCI 2.0 connections, lookinag at the actual board, I think you're only going to be able to put 3, especially 5830s which I believe are dual slot cards. Just a heads up (there are very few, if any boards, that can handle 4 without needing spacers).

The rest looks good? A little expensive, but good. I have to ask, have you run thorugh profitability calculations with this rig? I think you're going to take a verrrrrry long time to break even with the upcoming difficulty increases. :/

Would you guys have any suggestions for a more suitable motherboard?

And thanks for posting your set up Tunes0710, looks very similar to what i'm trying - I might have to see if I can find that same motherboard.

After lurking in the bitcoin-mining channel today and pestering people with questions (who were very kind enough to offer their guidance), I have gone for this rig to power 4 x 5850's - looks like yours is of similar spec...

Be careful with these boards.  I just found out the hard way that these Asus M4 series have a tendency of turning off some of your PCIE slots when others are in use.

On the MO-BO
Correct me if I'm wrong but to me it looks like you will only for three cards on the board, Two of the pcix16 slots look very close so you may need a riser cable.

Look's like a keeper though

Links to products would be nice. It's kind of annoying to have to go to newwegg, come back here, copy, then paste everything back into the newegg browser to find specs.

Thanks for the reply, I have updated original post with links to the products on newegg.com, except for the cards and memory which i couldn't find so linked to stores based in my country (ignore the price!)

Alright so after my last failed attempt (http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=12992.0)
I have made a second attempt at finding a system capable of supporting 4xHD5830's

Motherboard
Asus M4A79T Deluxe AMD 790FX Socket AM3 ATX Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131363R

GPU
4x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD5830 Xtreme 1GB PCI-Express Video Card *DVI *HDMI *mini-DisplayPort
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/hometheatre/componentview.asp?partid=15065

CPU
AMD Sempron 140 (2.7Ghz) 1MB Cache 2000Mhz Socket AM3 CPU + Fan Retail Boxed (SDX140HBGQBOX)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103698

PSU
Corsair TX950W 950W ATX Power Supply Unit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139013

HDD
Western Digital WD1600JS - Hard Disk Drive - 160GB - Serial ATA300 - 7200RPM - buffer: 8MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144415

CASE
Antec Dark Fleet Series DF-85 - Full tower - ATX - no power supply - USB/Audio
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129087

RAM
Corsair 2GB PC10600 DDR3 (1333Mhz) Memory CL9-9-9-24 (VS2GB1333D3)
http://www.pp.co.nz/products.php?pp_id=AA16852

I will just be using air for cooling (a few grunty fans..), the box will be stored in a well ventilated and low temperature enviroment (Its currently 11°C)

Only things i'm not sure about are if the memory or cpu would need to be more powerful, would it effect the performance of the GPUs hashrate?
I'm also aware that cooling may be more difficult than i expect, but I can sort that out once i've got it all together.

Would love to hear comments on this system and if you think it would work! Cheers
