I got 4x XFX 5870 @ 960Mhz Core & 300Mhz Memory + cheap mobo and cpu + flash drive to boot Ubuntu from all powered from Corsair HX850 Wink

So 1000W is more than enough for 4x 5850.

Get 1100~1200w incase you need future upgrades.
Its the cheaper way.

You should be fine as long as the '1000W' rating is accurate.

I'm using the same board and CPU as you with OC'ed Sapphire 5830's (998/300) with 8GB flash drives on a Corsair 950W going on 2 months now.  Not a single issue.  2.5" 7200 RPM HDD's power consumption is negligible.  And you're using 4x5850's and 5850's have lower TDP's than 5830's... My rig setup is 620W-640W at the outlet from a Kill-A-Watt.  You might barely break 600W with yours.

Cheers,
Kermee

Thanks, that was a very helpful reply Smiley

It should be more than enough.

Just keep in mind that if you overclock your cards, it can exceed your PSU's capabilities.

Do you guys think this Rosewill Lightning 1000 single 12v rail power supply will be enough to power a 4x 5850 overclocked mining rig?  I bought it in a combo deal with a case on Newegg but maybe I should have gotten a 1200 watt psu Sad.

Here's a list of the system's components:
4x Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 XTREME http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W75ATI
Rosewill BLACKHAWK Gaming ATX Mid Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182239
MSI 890FXA-GD70 Motherboard
AMD Sempron 140
A 500 GB 7200RPM Seagate 2.5" sata drive previously used in my laptop before it got an SSD

And that's it for the hardware.  I think the 1000 watt PSU might be enough but I'm open to the idea of trying to return it or selling it on ebay.  I have the system assembled with just a 8800 GT in it for now until the 5850s show up in a week or 2.
