BFGMiner is using 2% CPU time at peak on a Celeron 847 (1.1GHz).  That's controlling 4 Block Erupters.

People run 30+ of the things off a RaspberryPi which has a 700MHz Dorito for a CPU.

Mining uses basically nothing on any modern machine.

I have done some testing as well -- overhead even with Bitminter Java client is quite low.

I even put the workstations in "Low Power" mode with ASUS AISuite. It does not make a significant difference in mining speed -- higher or lower it would take me days to measure the difference -- accumulating shares. And it can save 30-40Watts of Power Draw to put them in low power.

I use CGMiner with direct USB and it uses 1 or 2% CPU.  I run 4 instances.  It will peak at 9 or 10% but immediately drop back down.

BFGMiner uses USB serial drivers which has more overhead so may run higher CPU utilization.  But it should be very low too.

Bitcoin mining typically uses very little CPU.

Hello!

I am planing to get a USB Miner, and I have a server, but I cannot afford to give any CPU to the miner. If I use, lets say BFGMiner and point it to my miner, will it take up any of the computers CPU power? I am running a CPU intensive java program in the background, and cannot afford to loose any power to it. So my question is, If I set it up right, will it not take up any CPU, but still mine efficiently on the USB?
