I think it will be alt season. Because it is on pinnacle. So i thinks It's alt coin's turn now to rise.
But i think all alt coin will not pump. Only the good alt coins will be pumped in this bull market.
So hope for the best.
It seems you are not very optimistic at the time of writing, so in the future try to be more specific and optimistic when you write, and one more thing that the Altcoin Season will never happen again if Bitcoin is still experiencing a big correction in the current market, that's the benchmark generally.

I can see btc dominance is now 58% which is not bad for alts. Obviously the lower the btc dominance the better.

Do you guys think btc dominance will get down to 50% so alts can go even more higher  Shocked?

What if btc fails to break 48k resistance & crashes below 44k support? Of course this will crash alts too however what happens to btc dominance then?

Like I have said when btc dumps alts correlate & dump too, btc is dragging down eth too that had a great looking bullish technical chart. Roll Eyes

What price you think btc will bottom at and when and from there btc will consolidate then at that we get another mini alt season till btc pumps again.

The final conclusion is btc dominance needs to in the low 30% range like it did back in 2017-18 so alts will be independent and wont correlate to btc dumps!

Btc dominance is around 60%, still high, it needs to go down in the 40% range for alts to stand a chance.

It might need more times to do so as BTC dominance already back to 60% and alts are bleeding a bit ATM. Hopefully, we get a decreasement on BTC dominance so that real alt season can be happened at a large scale which is expected by all alts lovers. Even some alts are doing well in this current time which might do well when final alt season will be started, IMHO.

Looks like Alts are on standby until bitcoin pumps and consolidates in price again like it is doing now so alts can have these mini short alt seasons during btc consolidations.

However if btc crashes alts will correlate and crash too  Shocked

I dont like mini alt seasons because it doesn't give enough time for alts to truly pump to the moon. All we get is little 5-10% pumps in mini alt seasons that can last for days (not enough time) depending on how long btc can consolidate.

Even Ethereum looks like its stuck at the station before going to its former all time high. Roll Eyes

I think when ethereum will break its all time high record then alts will shine and btc dominance goes down  Cool But if btc dumps then ether will dump too meaning its risky going into alts now, and when ether dumps then the distance to its all time high record will be increased and this increase chance of a looming bear market.

In 2017-18 when btc dominance was low alts can have long huge alt season. Why is that?

Like I have said when btc dumps alts correlate & dump too, btc is dragging down eth too that had a great looking bullish technical chart. Roll Eyes

Everything here in cryptocurrency is possible to happen, now for what happened before during the altcoins season, we don't know now
when this gonna be happen or maybe not. But since things are so unpredictable where nobody knows what will happen tomorrow,
the thing we can do as of the moment is to wait only.

Back in 2018, the alt season occurred primarily because of the ICO hype. Also, large number of investors went for various altcoins such as XRP, ETH and ADA, because they looked cheaper when compared to Bitcoin. The investors were hoping for higher returns by investing in new coins. But by late-2018 most of these coins had lost as much as 95% of their value. Those who made their investments back then are not going to do the same mistake again.

How can there be a alt season when alts are correlated to bitcoin price dips?

Its like you get these mini short temporarily alt seasons in a bull market when btc price is consolidating in a bull market but once bitcoin price corrects then alts price are bought down too wiping off all the gains from the previous mini temp alt season  Roll Eyes

What gives?

In alt season will everybody exchange their Alts for USDT or BTC?

I ask because if we have alt season and BTC is still high then its best not to exchange Alts to BTC because exchange rate not good right?

So USDT is the main pair?

In the last alt season early 2018, people were exchanging alts for btc so now in this season it will be for USDT instead unless btc prices comes down then yet again btc crashes alts will correlate and crash too so USDT is the safest bet yeah?

I guess this time, the bullrun of BTC will be different. May be $50k, or may be higher from this. Then yeah, we have to wait for few weeks, months or even a year.

Maybe more than $50k or it's the end game of bitcoin and rally of alts. But i'm expecting that alt season will be more bullish in February or next month as more likely every innovative old coins are trying to keep the bullish trend with bitcoin. But, everything is just a game of hope and will wait to see what's happened in the upcoming months.

Now many coins and tokens are showing good growth! What surprised me especially was that even ripple grew, I thought that the coin would not grow until the problem with the lawsuit was solved. It looks like you can still expect growth, although not as rapid as it was then...

I was not lucky to see the season live. I have checked a few months ago. Same as your finding, I noticed the same for LTC too. LTC was at peak at December 17th (when BTC was at peak) while, LTC is far away from its peak on BTC bull to $41k. I guess this time, the bullrun of BTC will be different. May be $50k, or may be higher from this. Then yeah, we have to wait for few weeks, months or even a year.

The rises in the 2017-2018 season will not happen in this bull. Because there were not many altcoins at that time. But there are many altcoins available during this period. Also, I do not expect much growth in older tokens types. But I expect a nice rise in the types of altcoins that came out during this period.
But it depends on the project too, there are still many old tokens that have survived until now. I don't have too many new hold tokens being released in 2020, but I still hope that the altcoin season will bring big bulls to both.
Currently, we cannot see the benchmark in 2017, because in fact it is no longer relevant. I just think that the bull this time really depends on the progress of a project. There are indeed some positive effects from the increase in bitcoin and ethereum prices, but if you look at the current price movements, this bullish time is really quite different

This is the date when Alts were at their peak with bitcoin dominance being pushed down to all time low 35%.

This was also the date when its a day before when bitcoin bubble popped from the Dec 2017 $20k all time high to losing 75% of its value few weeks later.

Questions are:

- Can we get another similar Alt season bull market when btc is volatility consolidating at new all time highs before the bitcoin bubble gets popped like above? Or is this start of a new bull market for btc where we have to wait till next year or 2022 for another alt season peak when btc is hovering at $100k or whatever new ath it hits?

- Lets take the Benchmark Alt coin Ethereum. The price difference ratio between Eth and Btc is high now like $650 to $23000. In the 2017/18 bull market Eth was $1400 to btc $20k. Are Alts dying and BTC will be king?

- Lastly I remember in 2017/18 Alt season all the Alts were being pumped where people can very rich from this. Will it be a different story for Alts this time coming into this new bull market where only the good fundamentally altcoins will be pumped only and shitcoins this time will stay the same flat dead line?

- Best time to sell Alts when Bitcoin dominance is at its lows? This is the best indicator for selling alts?

This question worries me now, like many. To begin with, we must admit that the situation is completely different now than in 2017-2018. We, as small players in the market (without insider information), can only guess what will happen next - the cryptocurrency market has already shown that it defies any analytics and technical analysis.

Personally, I still believe that there will still be an alt season (in some form), ideally ETH should update its ATH, maybe 0.1 of the bitcoin cost if the alt season is hot ...

whats the ratio of price now between btc & alts? Back in early 2017 Btc was cheap meaning you got less alts when you exchanged btc for alts right?

So what about now when btc is at new ATH prices, do we get more altcoins now when exchanging the btc for alts because btc is worth more now?

Now 1 btc can buy you 33 eth's. Back in 2018 alt season 1 btc bought you around 13 eth's.

So how do we look at price ratios on CoinGecko and is it best to trade alts with BTC pairs or Eth pairs or USDT pairs to maximise gains for this upcoming alt season?
I would have to say that there is really no connection of 2017 and 2021 neither, there is nothing that was like 2017 and people try to ignore that a lot. I have to remind you that 2017 was a bubble, we have seen the result, it burst and went as low as 3k, it is not a bubble right now.

How do I know this? Because we didn't had companies investing 14+ billion dollars into bitcoin back in those days, and I mean literally 14 Billion, with a B, and that is just one company as well. So long story short you have to realize that bitcoin is living in another situation right now and it is nowhere near the 2017 situation.

If you can see that you will realize that bitcoin is not doing that bad. Obviously this doesn't mean there are no alt season, look at alt prices, they have gone up too, now we have both bitcoin going up and alts going up together which is awesome.

Well some alt coins could be but I don't think that many altcoins will get to see another season anyway.
Mostly there are plenty of altcoins in the market from the projects that dries up overnight leaving up to no value in the end. Practically just those altcoins projects looking for quick profit but never longing for many seasons to come.
You are absolutely right cause the previous years market are always different to the current due to the traffic the market get after every Bitcoin halving and by checking the cryptocurrency market cap some altcoin are already missing in action which DeFi are also not excluded. However, I expected the altcoins project that doesn't have a genuine concept to miss this season.

This time it won't be like 2018 I think. 2018 btc market dump in just a week and keep going down below 5k. But looks at the market this time it's bouncing back more strongly after every market crash. BTC market is becoming more consolidate with every bounce so ALTs market will also see a stable growth like btc and as long as btc keeps its value stable alts will not dump.

In my opinion alt seasons will occur this year, but wait for the Bitcoin price to stop rising first and Bitcoin dominance can fall again. Because if
the Bitcoin price continues to rise like this, the arrival of the alt season is likely to be late. So we really have to be patient, I am sure if we are
patient then success will come naturally. If you pay attention to the prices of several altcoins that have started to approach ATH, but indeed
the increase in altcoins this year is not as fast as 2018. The most important thing is that the price of altcoins is moving up, although slowly.
My prediction is that mid-2021 there will be an alt season where all the altcoins will reach the new ATH.

That is the difference between 2017 and 2020, we are not at the same situation anymore.
It is more accurate to compare 2017 and 2021 that is the current year. The bitcoin is over heating and it will be paused, cooled down soon. Altcoins are heating up a lot in the last month and I see the altcoin season in next one to two months but I expect to see it in January 2021.

Quote
We are getting companies buying tens of thousands of bitcoin and storing them, back in 2017 we had regular people and maybe some whales but everyone bought and sold, when price went down everyone sold so it was quicker to sell, now when it goes down a bit, those major companies still keep on holding which prevents the price from going down too much, that is the biggest difference compared to 2017.
When the time for altcoin season comes, the game is set for altcoins, they will rise in 2 pairs, in BTC and in USDT. Altcoins will rise more in USDT than what bitcoin will have. In altcoin seasons, whales will boost altcoin price in BTC pairs very much and we know the bitcoin price is bullish.

The last altseason was just a drop in the bucket compared to what this is going to be. If you want to maximize your profit,
like a water drop but mate the altseason last time was huge in value and in coverage but if there will be another ,

that will not be water drop anymore but that will be bucket of water that has been poured on a big water container because we have waited for this for so long ,

drops of water are now filled in a bucket and ready to be poured and after that we are going to wait again for another .7th alt season isnt the last but it will be followed  by 8th , 9th , 10th  and many more numbers .

As far i feel for the market it is now rising, there is no need to argue too much for the reason that the increase is not as expected by everyone, but as it happens, almost all altcoins are all increasing.
But more precisely we are still waiting for the altcoin to explode, as mentioned by the OP i think history will repeat itself and we will have the next alt season again. But i don't think things will be so predictable, i agree that history will repeat itself but altcoins will grow in waves and reach new ATH.

History repeats itself, by means of repetition - based on market fluctuation and activities - bitcoin is targeting ATH to ATH this closed year ended 2020 and to earliest 2021. With a lot of speculations, we must be careful about the activities of the market right now as the latest huge transfers of more than <10,000 BTC had already diminished over time. So, we may see the correction for a bit this time. Alts season correlates to a decrease in BTC price dominance and price against altcoins (increased). Alts are already making a little increase in its price but we may not yet be seeing those ATH like what happen to the 2017 bull run, since the market of BTC is possibly not yet at its peak. Trying to see a little correction in order to hit another ATH. If a sudden sell-off will be observed in the bitcoin market, perhaps these alts season may exist.

Times are changing back 2017 the market is in an experimental period, so many altcoins are pumped without getting proof that they have usage to the community, investors have proven that only Bitcoin and a handful of coins and tokens have use case for the development of this technology, all the others are just pump and dump or now here gone tomorrow projects.

Bitcoin is at $34,000 and can almost reach $40,000, much higher than 2017, so I believe it's not time to talk about Bitcoin's bubble or drop. so we will have a better Altcoins season in 2017.

For this time I think it will be different from the previous year even now the price of bitcoin exceeds 2017 and we expect the current price will last a long time at the highest number so that we can get the results of our investment in some altcoins, and we can see the altcoin market is starting to bangkin and now it is time to choose altcoins that have potential for us to hold, and I am sure this year the crypto world will carve out a history that we cannot forget.
That is the difference between 2017 and 2020, we are not at the same situation anymore. Sure we are doing awesome just like 2017, it was 700 to 20k back then, it is now around 7k to 33k today, so it is all great and I still think mainstream media is not even fully caught up yet, when that happens and everyone gets in, we are going to be even bigger. However the biggest difference we have is the big obvious one, the elephant in the room, the big major companies.

Personally, I think something like this should be.
All the same, Bitcoin quite accurately repeats the movement of the last bull run, plus the domination is extremely close to the one that was before the last season of altcoins.
And the altcoins themselves are already starting to grow a little. How far this growth will go worries me the most.

oh yes of course, don't worry, there are already signs, Doge is up 150%, Ethereum is above $ 700, and Litecoin is in a bullish trend,
of course these are signs to watch out for when the altcoin season will start, it's just that bitcoin dominance is still high and predicted to be reaches 90%,
so just accumulate the altcoins that you choose and hold, 2018 will repeat itself this year.

You mentioned few alcoins that grows, but Bicoins price is still high and also grows. As well as its dominance is still high, while in first post it is mentioned that in 2018 altseason was when Bitcoins dominance was around 35%. Only few more days till January 7th and altseason is not even close. Only few alts are close to their ATH, imo, it is early to count altseason to start.

As we have all seen, Bitcoin seems to have peaked and Altcoins are picking up steam, I have not doubt Altcoins are going to pump and some are going to pump greatly, but not all these Altcoins are going to pump because most of the 2016-2018 project do not have funds again to push the project forward

What you mean do not have funds again for 2016-18 Alts? So you saying only the new name alts will survive? What about history and establishment of an older alt, does this count nowadays in good fundamentals of a alt?

Looks like now Bitcoin is off steam and the money is flowing now into selective alts only

Alts like Ether, Dogecoin, Litecoin and a few more are selective. Looks like a strategic selective of Alts with the least risk of going flatline dead near 0.

Shall we assume De-Fi 2020 trend is dead now?

When I say alt season I mean when every alt got pumped back in 2017-18. Now I only see selective Alts being pumped.

Apart from Ether, Litecoin, Dogecoin which other Alts are safe like these? Dogecoin is safe alt cause Elon Musk behind it  Cheesy

Ripple XRP would have been $1 today each but that SEC regulator case is holding ripple back in this selective alt race.

The sad thing is if Bitcoin dumps from its pump all alts will correlate and dump too meaning Bitcoin is like the SEC regulator crashing alts like ripple when bitcoin goes down.

Can a alt apart from stablecoins ever be unique and dont have correlation to bitcoin? Even the alt king Eth is correlated to btc.

Some altcoins are already showing good growth. Dot has doubled recently, Litecoin is now very expensive and ether has almost doubled in the last month. The altcoin season has already begun.
So when there are some Altcoins that are already occupying double the price, it is called Altcoin season? because some people are waiting for that Altcoin season they don't know when it will actually happen.

Today, ethereum has come close to its ATH. And this ATH may be exceeded in the near future, followed by a new ATH. In addition to Ethereum, most altcoins also rose very much. And at the moment when the price of Bitcoin will be in the flat, the growth of altcoins will continue.

Tweets on Twitter saying Alts wont have a alt season until Ethereum beats its past All Time High Price, is this true?

- Bitcoin price goes up, Alts stay flat?

- Bitcoin price goes down, Alts go down too?

- Bitcoin price is flat, Alts go super high?

- Best time to sell Alts when Bitcoin Dominance is low?

Ethereum is still like 50% away from its all time high meaning there's still a long way to go for Ethereum to get there so confidence into Alts wont come back until Eth surpasses its All Time High otherwise Bitcoin will continue to dominate with higher price and be King to market dominance of 90+% thus Alts will die when that happens?

Many people especially the newbies in crypto had started losing hope that Bitcoin would cross $20,000 before last year ended but it didn't only cross the $20k but also crossed 30k with above $4,000. If that can happen to Bitcoin, it can happen to any other cryptocurrency that gives what people want in term of it development and marketing.

I also think so, because this is the biggest bitcoin volatility to date, where the domination of BTC is above 70% and is the highest number as long as BTC exists.
maybe until btc is stable for a while that's where we can see the alt season.
but for now it cannot be ascertained because the price of btc tends to rise every day and only briefly makes corrections and then rises again after that happens.

We can never tell whether this 2021 will be the same on what happen on that said year where alt season started but I have confidently convinced that it has a very high possibility that alt season is on its way because seeing the market bullish not only for bitcoin but also to several top rank altcoins that made me strongly feel that it will make a new history for crypto world and industry.
Are you aware of the current market trend right now, or do you just typing random bullshit here?

You are waiting for alt season so much but is btc bull run not enough?
What in the world people don't want to min-max their earnings through different things. There is no reason to limit yourself because BTC is going high it doesn't mean that is enough for us. Coins just don't go up like that. There needs to be a solid reason. Bitcoin prices have gone up, as a result of the hype surrounding integration into platforms such as PayPal and Square. Some of the altcoins have also gone up, mainly because they are also traded against BTC. Their exchange rate versus BTC has gone down, but that against fiat has gone up. But this trend is not going to last much longer and the hints are already there. Bitcoin dominance now stands at 72%. It was 57% before the start of the bull run.

Altcoins follow the Bitcoin's bullish trend at the moment (at least some of them). But I agree with you, the trend may not last long. Bitcoin is probably still the safest to invest in the long run.

so just accumulate the altcoins that you choose and hold, 2018 will repeat itself this year.

So we just have to wait and see whether we get another Alt season taking off this year. If not that will be the end final nail in the coffin for Alts I guess apart from Bitcoin in the top 10.

We know future will be blockchain technology so surely bitcoin cant steal all of that blockchain market right?

You will always get Pepsi to Coca Cola and the same can be said of Burger King to Mcdonalds.

Nike to Adidas. Apple to Microsoft so surely bitcoin cant have 100% market dominance. So out of 8000 altcoins only a few can survive right?

To start the Alt season, it is necessary for investors to start taking profit on bitcoin and getting out of it.  The dominance of bitcoin should also drop to the area of 50%, but this is still very far away.

We have been seeing altcoin runs in different sectors, most recently DeFi, you just need to know where to look... DYOR. My investment strategy has been to buy up microcaps like 0xMR and UNCX early before they moon. If you invest in something that already increased in value there will be a lot of bagholders looking to dump on you.

To see alt season like the season in January 2018, bitcoin need to chill off and remains its value somewhat steady. At the point when individuals see no danger of air pocket, they will spend out their money to purchase altcoins and when whales finish their games with bitcoin, they will change to elective digital currency. In 2018, the alt-season happened one month after the unequaled high of bitcoin.

If bitcoin is on route to $100k then how can it chill? This mean altcoins will remain in the shallows until that happens but once bitcoin reaches 100k its gonna dump hard back down to 20k that is a 80% pullback and once that happens the already shallow alts that haven't recovered will correlate with this -80% too sending alts into death near 0 right?

Except Litecoin of course. Its the only Alt that shares the same strengths with bitcoin from the looks of it!

Even Ether doesnt look like it can catch up with btc pace.

Ripple got a scandal to deal with in courts.

So hence I said litecoin ltc.

Okay coming back here it looks like only the fundamentally sound altcoins will have their bull market alt season. I'm talking altcoins that are genuine backed by good fundamentals that have a real world usage now, not scams and yeah it looks like investors nowadays wont technically dump their money into random alts like they did in 2017/18 because lots of ico scams back then.

So it seems the ico scam stain wont clean off for a very long time, so bad that it puts investors off alts still to this day and we wont have another alt season meaning only a handful of fundamental alts will have their individual bull runs.

Of course we will continue just having yearly alt trends. This 2020 year was the de-fi trend.

Obviously we will get the altcoin season again soon hopefully in 2021 but there are big chances that bad quality projects will nit pump much so try to get more coins from top 50 or top 100 coins only for better bulls exposure.

Why am I hearing exchanges are delisting ripple xrp when the jury verdict on that sec case has not been reached yet  Huh

I understand if ripple found to be liable guilty then exchanges can take action buy why take action in advance? Is it because exchanges believe no one will win against the sec no matter how good your lawyers are?

You need to understand the reasons behind the market trends if you want to have some idea about the present and near future. Unfortunately, I see a lot of users throwing this idea out of the window and just keep operating on pure hopium.

2017 market was driven by "blockchain technology" hype. Investors were throwing their money at every altcoin out there, traditional companies were announcing that they will adopt blockchain and so on. Then, after Bitcoin has crashed, there was much less interest in blockchain.

Fastforward to 2020, Bitcoin is booming because institutional investors decided that it's worth parking some of their money in it, since US dollar isn't doing to well. Is there any reason for alts to grow here? Would anyone view highly experimental, unrpoven, untested, work-in-progress networks as a good place to store their value? Especially since their volatility is much higher than Bitcoin's? The answer is clearly no.

Altcoin season was a one-time thing, investors won't be so hyped about blockchain now, because it's no longer a brand new thing, and they see that it failed to yield any results since 2017.

The story with the price of bitcoin and altcoins will no longer be repeated. In 2017 - 2018, the situation was completely different than it is now. The current situation is much better for the price growth of the cryptocurrency market. Price correction will periodically occur, however, one should hardly expect such a strong price drop in January. In 2021, we expect further market growth in general in the first half of the year, however, large holders of cryptocurrency can significantly affect this situation. Therefore, in many ways, the further price movement of the cryptocurrency is poorly predictable.

Finally SEC regulators can only go against centralised coins like ripple but not decentralised ones? I thought governments love centralisation so why they go after centralised coins  Huh

Because they want to control everything.

I don't think xrp is going to pull down all the altcoins. This may be a temporary effect, but I think that many will recognize the difference between ripple and decentralized altcoins.

Damn, Ripple xrp might spoil the bull alt season for alts. It even dragged down Ether too but Bitcoin still looks strong unaffected.

How long this lawsuit by SEC regulators against ripple will take and the altcoin market must wait for the jury verdict on this case and from there whether we see ripple is found guilty or not guilty then the alt market will follow bearish or bullish on that verdict right?

Is Stellar xlm effected by ripple too?

Is ripple is found guilty then that will tarnish the whole altcoin market putting it in bearish cycle for a long time years I guess from this not proven yet ripple scandal right?

If ripple is found not guilty then that's super bullish for ripple and for altcoins meaning ripple could be a cheap buy now?

Finally SEC regulators can only go against centralised coins like ripple but not decentralised ones? I thought governments love centralisation so why they go after centralised coins  Huh

Of course, Bitcoin is always going to be number one and the "king" as you've mentioned in your thread. About the bitcoin dominance i'm not really sure as it depends on the whales which are turning to be going for Bitcoin and not Ethereum and the other alts. It's likely going to happen, i'm talking about the 2017 alts season but we might see alot of new altcoins so be ready and afford some cash and start looking for the coins listed above the 1000's rankings.

Maybe yes or no but for now only btc seems to be taking the show, if this btc up trend continues till January 2021 maybe it will transfer to alts too, so far nothing much has happened in alts space and some are saying the bull run has just started, so let's watch and see what happens.
Altcoins will be bullish after bitcoin can find the best floor to stabilize its price. This time the price is really volatile. As far as I know that this trend will always happen. I remember that when bitcoin has been stabilize last months and then it makes altcoin can grow even more as the bitcoin traders were starting to pump the altcoin price.
In fact if that's always happening so many times. It's a common cycle.

It's a different scenario now, because back then investors are on experimental mode, because ICO's are on the hype back then but after ICO's projects scam so many investors, they are wiser now to only pick the right coin to invest, so I don't think there will be another alt season coming, each coin is for himself right now.

I agree that back then, ICO hype was driving all the alts up. The situation is obviously different now. Of course, we have some DeFi hype, just not as much as it was in the golden days of ICOs. I don't think history will repeat itself when it comes to altcoins.

In fact, the condition is different right now. Bitcoin price really can make big progress only in a few weeks and it can pass the ATH newly. However different from altcoin, there is still not an altcoin season yet. So that we need more time in order to wait for the altcoin season heading up.

For now, we still can not determine. However, I am sure that the altcoin season will be higher for this period than the price of the previous seasons. Moreover, let's see how the BTC is passing the new ATH. The price is higher than the previous one. Just let's see what will happen to this altcoin season next.

Waiting for the low BTC dominance means you will have a higher chance of missing the alt season train, better to buy in small parts rather than waiting for the great day to go all in. Maybe the history will repeat itself in the first weeks of next year but it is unlikely the same scenario will repeat, IMHO. The same scenario is possible because the going all in or exiting on small profit can be dangerous for naive traders. Waiting for the perfect time aka alt season is our best bet due to the mentioned reasons.

Just look at ltc litecoin  Shocked, doing very well this altcoin is

Ethereum not making massive moves like bitcoin.

If we don't see altcoins recover to previous ATH's when bitcoin dominance is down & they only recover a tiny % in the 2021 alt season then that confirm altcoin market is dead apart from Alts in the top 10 or trendy alts like de-fi or NFT's. 1000's & 1000's of alts will die off next year

Altcoins really grow more than Bitcoins. Btc is popular, it is constantly on the ear and many people buy it, inflating its value. Altcoins can not yet catch up with bitcoin in demand, but their value can grow quite quickly. In December 2017, the price of the Ripple altcoin increased 16 times in 3 weeks from $ 0.20 to $3.21.

We are likely going to experience another thing altogether, that is, something different from that of 2018. Looking at the market, it is very obvious that Bitcoin dominance is high meaning more funds are going into it, more attention is on it and it doesn't look like it is slowing down or coming down; thus the price increase is interesting. Also, looking at altcoins, it is also obvious that investors are now sticking to altcoins which will worth their investments, and that's towards top altcoins; this is also justifiable because a lot of new altcoins nowadays have nothing to offer just hype and then they dump, thus no one is willing to take that risk with them.
Lastly, I do not think shitcoins which are known to be dead will ever grow again not with the presence of altcoins like Ethereum whose team are top of their games. Therefore, it is better to invest with good altcoins so that, when there is bull run, you will be sure to gain.

It looks like the same alt season last Jan 2018 won't happen this time.  Alts aren't surging like it was in 2017 so I think the history won't repeat itself.  Probably the main reason is that, investors are much more wiser than today unlike in 2017 where majority were too naive thinking that the altcoin market surge won't stop which causes lots of people to lose their money.  Probably the altcoin market crash after its surge teaches lots of investors to do research and invest carefully not blindly that is why i don't think that we will get another 7th Jan. 2018 alt season.

I doubt we will have the same kind of event again.
Why?
Stablecoins. i.e. USDT
Before that is created, traders would usually exchange their Bitcoins for Altcoin which is the reason for a sudden pump in the altcoin industry.
It had been 2 years already and a lot of pumps and dumps happened with Bitcoin and yet we still don't see alts soaring.
That's my only reason for the dead to not rise again.

I think it will never be like that period ever again. We had both an awesome period where we have seen ATH prices, and we also saw a huge drop in price after that as well. I remember ethereum reaching as high as above 1500 dollars for example, but I also remember price being as low as 85 dollars or so after that too, which shows you that altcoins could be more volatile than you could ever imagine, it is nearly impossible to guess how horrible it could be.

I am not saying it will always be like that, I am just saying that there is a past in altcoins history that is both very bright and very dark, we should be focusing on the bright side for now but be ready for the dark as well. I think it will not be that bright nor that dark ever again, this type of 2020 year is the best we will ever get from now on.

If you see the individual coins value there is huge drop even after the crypto market cap reached new all time high which shows that number of altcoins availability is one of the reason why the marketcap value of altcoins gets diluted and individual coins are struggling to reach new all time high when it loos so much easier with bitcoin.

Faith is the substance of something not seen but hopeful of receiving. It's the same way I look at the ATH issue of altcoins. I am hopeful that things are going to be even better once alts bulls set in, possibly in first quarters of 2021.

I am not expecting same results like 2017 to 2018, I believe things will be different this time, bitcoin already hit 20k few weeks back and it's dominance is at 65% still, altcoins only shows little uptrend and nothing more, the highest I've seen among the top altcoins is 30% but now that Bitcoin is over 22k I'm guessing it's time for altcoins season
Until that Bitcoin dominance reduces, altcoins will not moon. That's the sign I am looking out for. Once it drops below the 60% level, we will see alts soaring. That was the way it happened in 2017.

when did that happen. Bitcoin dominance is very strong these days. it took a long time to bring down bitcoin dominance, and I doubt if that time comes there will be a pump for altcoins. in fact, the current bull trend is only focused on bitcoin, and altcoins have only a slight impact. just look at ethereum struggling to break through ATH, ripple and litecoin which haven't seen any significant moves yet. and other altcoins that are still struggling despite good trends.

There are a lot of people who think this bullrun will be the same as it was in 2017, but I can assure you that none of that is true. there will be no more altseason, because people are no longer interested in the new altcoins on the market. so everything just focuses on the coins are big.

What about new altcoins released last year and this year, only these will go high in a bull run?

Or is it the safest bet is the top 10 ranking coins only like Ether, Ripple, Litecoin etc?

Bitcoin Cash is doing okay with still maintaining its top 10 ranking, but the chart looks dead. How is it maintaining its ranking with a dead flat chart?

The rises in the 2017-2018 season will not happen in this bull. Because there were not many altcoins at that time. But there are many altcoins available during this period. Also, I do not expect much growth in older tokens types. But I expect a nice rise in the types of altcoins that came out during this period.

I don't think that it will happen and I lost hopes as well. Those were early days of ICOs and a team of shady developers and marketers used to sell ideas for money. They raised them and flew away. In order to repeat the same altcoin bull run like we saw in 2018, we need altcoin buyers. Why would a newbie invest in something unfamiliar and not in bitcoins despite the fact that bitcoin has dragged them here in the first place? Huge returns? Altcoins are almost dead in promising good returns. So, if money is not going in, alt season won't be there.

I dont think that it is impossible to have same Alt Season as it was in 2018. The popularity and success of it was all thanks to innovative ICO's. Everyone wanted to invest in nothing and get easy money. Now such "nothing" wont even raise $10,000. Now you can raise softcap by showing a powerpoint presentation to investors or have a shiny webpage. People have already burned from scam and dont believe in easy money.

Of course we will.

Right now BTC rises because institutional money get in. Why? Because they are afraid of too much printing from governments. But sooner or later they will look for other crypto assets to put money in because bitcoin will become overvalued.

Yea thats possible, but how about they do cashout instead to invest on another crypto? I hope altcoin strong enough to attract investor avoid cashout from Crypto.

They can use stable coins if they want to convert it to much secured altcoin. Altcoin is much volatile compare to BTC so I don't think they will choose it as alternative option for cashing out ,and another reason they denied that is because they are also affected in Bitcoin price so if Bitcoin decrease it's value altcoin do the same.  So not a good suggestionbto give to them if ever they want to cash out .

Take a close look at the market you will see bitcoin and ethereum gaining momentum in the market despite the fact that ETH is not increasing rapidly as bitcoin but the ethereum market is doing greatly at the moment and I believe in no time it will break it 2018 all time high.

The altcoin market is beginning to have a bounce back and recovery slowly, it may not be bullish just as 2017 bull run but there are indications that shows the market recovering.

Right now BTC rises because institutional money get in. Why? Because they are afraid of too much printing from governments. But sooner or later they will look for other crypto assets to put money in because bitcoin will become overvalued.

The time that alt season raise was the time that Bitcoin fall right? well we are not quite sure so far maybe before the crash of the Bitcoin? But so far the Bitcoin price is still going up let's just hope that the price will stay above $20k mark point.

Alt season this time is very difficult to predict, given the number of altcoins that are newcomers breaking all the hype in the market. Of course we are here besides watching bitcoin, ethereum also needs attention, this is not as complete as 2017. As for altcoins we hope to do the same, so that small investors and beginners who are able to invest in altcoin are given the opportunity to get their valuable opportunities at the end of the year or in 2021.

My experienced regarding this industry has thought me that, whenever the price of Bitcoin moves all others (including the altcoins do bow to their knees), so, we should be looking forward for 2021 if something similar is going to repeat itself again. Definitely there will be altcoins season after this  bullish movement with Bitcoin, but that might not be as it happened back in 2017.

This is the date when Alts were at their peak with bitcoin dominance being pushed down to all time low 35%.

This was also the date when its a day before when bitcoin bubble popped from the Dec 2017 $20k all time high to losing 75% of its value few weeks later.

But not the date alts started to moon, i mean back in 2017 by now alts already mooning because i could remember telling a friend what alts to buy during the 2017 December, it was a great period for alts till early 2018, Damn! it was a time to remember to be honest, i could remember my favorite app was blockfolio because of the way my portfolio was increasing with the few alts i hold,
unfortunately, this time it seems alts are being excluded from the fun.

Not your keys, not your coins!
To see alt season like the season in January 2018, bitcoin need to cool down and remains its price a little stable. Above $20,000. When people see no risk of bubble, they will spend out their capital to buy altcoins and when whales finish their games with bitcoin, they will switch to alternative cryptocurrency.

In 2018, the alt-season happened one month after the all time high of bitcoin.

So it is the time for us to enjoy a all time high day of bitcoin and think of future plans (with bitcoin, with altcoins, or with real life things). Each person will have different need and plans.

We could and as well may not, that's why everything in crypto is somewhat speculative, what I'm sure is we're going to have a different pattern from that of the last Btc ATH, quite a lot of things have changed in the network, mostly positively; the altcoin market may see some good spike as Bitcoin continues to grow higher, but we cannot predict the exact timing that all this will happen.
Are Alts dying and BTC will be king?
Well, not all of them, there are still good altcoins like ethereum, it may be far of from Bitcoin, but it has also had its own share of spikes this year, and it's going to continue, there are other altcoins like that as well, though many alts are going to wither with time and due to lack of demand, but generally alts aren't 'dead'.

Well in 2018, bitcoin started to decline from it's peak in December 2017. So I have speculated that investors have move to Altcoins market that time that's why Ethereum made it's all time high around Jan-Feb if I'm not mistaken.

However, around March-May, many projects have started to sell their Ethereum because they needed money to continue, and that is the start of the bear market, the whole crypto space suddenly bleeds. But I don't know if we can repeat that 2017, I mean the market is very different now, investors mature and those irrational buyers have been REKT.
