I told my wife on Monday that if the price reached $100 by Friday evening, I'd take her to a nice dinner with half of one.  We're both watching the price with great anticipation.  Smiley

So just a $50 dinner?

Why not a $100 dinner?  Cheesy

Not a chance of hitting $100 today. Price will stay at $90 for a while I reckon. Although it could even drop down to about $60 and still be in the same uptrend. It will hit $100 soon though, like within a week or so.

I would have said it would take another couple of weeks to break $100, but this news could push us there by the end of this week:

http://techcrunch.com/2013/03/27/expensify-now-offers-support-for-bitcoin-an-alternative-to-paypal-for-international-contractors/

Though I expect a pull back once breaking it, as usual.  Then we'll break it again, and again, and after a few tries we'll stay above it.

Or might it be that since people are going to the bank or ATM anyway, they figure they may as well withdraw some extra just in case of banking shenanigans?

For exactly the above reason, most people will do 1 of 2 things:

1) empty their account
2) withdraw the max allowed

Once they have cash, then they'll figure out what they will do with it..  I'm thinking the most likely scenario:

1) pay bills
2) put rest under matress

a very few will actually look for banking alternatives... and a very few of those few will put some of their cash into bitcoin.

Nitpick: wouldn't the payday withdrawals be (more than) offset by the payday payments from employers?

Cyprus banks either opening to a bank run or not opening tomorrow, most Europeans got their paycheck today!

So some cash withdrawals in Europe because of fear which fuels more fear in the european markets togther with more Europeans buying Bitcoins than ever the following days.

Yeah, double fear factor in the euro markets tomorrow and europeans buying Bitcoins the folowing days. A mixture made for a jump into triple digits!!!

After the previous all time high of 2011, $100 will be the biggest resistance point.
If we cross this, $100 will be a huge support.
I also hope we will make an global agreement of displaying Bitcoin not in BTC anymore but mBTC.
This will make it more attracting for new comers.

I don't like "mBTC" - too many letter smashed together, too nerdy-sounding. There's really no particular reason to hold on to the term BTC at all, in the long term; it's purely arbitrary. (True, in the short term it is useful to impress people with the growth.)

I say we just switch to bitcents. One bitcent is almost a dollar now. Perhaps the currency code symbol could be "BCT." Does that open up more possibilities than BTC?

my personal preference... mBTC to be refered to as "bit" or "bits"   rolls off the tounge really easy if you say it....  "That'l be 2 bits please"

I seriously like that idea.  It's perfect, IMO.

That's kinda cool and has an "Olde Tyme" ring to it because two bits used to mean a quarter. "Shave and a haircut......two bit!" It harks back to a time when currencies didn't get debased and may help draw in the older crown who are losing their retirement funds to inflation.

The only drawback is that it doesn't have a unique meaning. "Bitcoin" can only refer to Bitcoin, but "bit" can refer to a lot of things. This is disadvantageous in terms of search engines, keyword analysis, and other things, as well as being ambiguous in some situations.

Glad someone caught the 2 bits reference Smiley ...  and I didn't even think about the apealing to the older crowd angle..

Not sure the ambiguity would be that big of an issue.. a lot of words have multiple meanings.. we seem to get along just fine.

Ive always liked the idea of SI prefixes.

millibit, microbit, nanobit for short.

But that's not what this thread is aboot.

Oooh... I will scream like a teen-aged-girl the first time I see something priced in nanobits... Smiley

When you're checking the price when she gets up to go to the bathroom during sex, you know you have a problem.

unless gox decides to work overtime clearing all that backlog

I doubt that, they're already making plenty of money.

The longer it takes the higher the price so the more commission they make on the eventual transactions.

Time to dump her.

BTC won't reach $100 today, but by the weekend is looking good.
Wat about the weekend dip?
I call monday.

Monday is a holiday in many countries (Easter Monday), so I call Tuesday.

I would say Tuesday by the earliest. There is a significant pyschological resistance to that price.

Depends a bit what happens in Cyprus though.

Haha - lol - I told my gf that when I hit a certain target she'll get a macbook. haha, the interesting tales.

My GF bitched me out last night because she said I wouldn't stop talking about Bitcoin and I wasn't paying enough attention to her. Then she reiterated her point that BTC is illegal and will be shutdown eventually (ironic she says that because she is an attorney and has no freaking clue what BTC is).  Then she put her hands on her hips and told me if I was making so much money I needed to take her to dinner or else there was no point being together! lol!

hahahahah - there should be an dedicated thread dedicated to the girlfriend stories!

This x1000. 100$/BTC really scares off small investors.

And $800/share of Google doesn't? Come on now.
And $1,600/oz of Gold doesn't?

I was just talking about the scale... Looks a lot more attracting to buy mBTC because it looks less expensive than full ones.

Spurn wild goose chases. Seek that which endures.
My clock radio woke me up this morning with the news that all bank transactions were suspended in Denmark due to a computer glitch, no withdrawals or deposits possible. Half an hour later the news television channel had an interview with an employee in some banks data center and he told the there had been a problem with a "transaction clearing file" which had caused the whole morning processing to halt.
I'm not saying there's a correlation, nor arguing with your interpretation of the "true reason" for the suspended transactions, but this story is amusingly familiar.

The underlying reason for this has to do with Cyprus. I suspect that large amount of money have been withdrawn Cyprus banks since the 17'th. Laikibank branches in the UK have been "helpful" with withdrawals for big customers while the Cyprus branches were closed. The Manager of the Cyprus central bank was fired this morning!

Something apparenty happend this morning:

My clock radio woke me up this morning with the news that all bank transactions were suspended in Denmark due to a computer glitch, no withdrawals or deposits possible. Half an hour later the news television channel had an interview with an employee in some banks data center and he told the there had been a problem with a "transaction clearing file" which had caused the whole morning processing to halt.

I checked the markets and the Euro have been tumbling since early morning. So I suspect the this was not just a technical glitch! In some country some bank suspended Euro trade or sold everything and stated a small panic in the European banking sector!

As I had the EUR and BTC tickers open side by side this morning, it was obvious that this mornings rally in BTC was fuled by the Euro panic! Everytime the Euro drop paused the BTC rally paused!

So I'm guessing European prof traders are hiding in BTC!

There is a not yet published banking scandal tailing the situation in Cyprus in my opinion.

I'll be surprised if it doesn't touch $100 today but I have a feeeling it could hover around the $90-$100 mark for a couple of days before making a break upwards.

Could we be on course for a weekend rally ?

We're headed through $100 (and much higher) sooner or later. But don't be too disheartened about this weekend if it doesn't pan out quickly. The banks will be shut for up to 4 days for easter.

If we do, we will (temporarily) fall straight back down again.

I see short spurts of fast price increases, but I don't see any sustained parabolic move. Most of the week it has been fairly linear growth.

It's a possibility, but I think we'll start finding walls in the mid-90s. The 80s never were going to be very memorable.
