Mining is most profitable when you also do your research.

The reason why zclassic shotup is because it is being rebranded as "Bitcoin Private." Although there is no official news yet rumor has spread that it is happening sometime in Jan 2018. If it pushes through then all well and good because you will probably have mined something valuable. However, if it fails to realize and nothing happens, you will have mined something useless. Its a risk you will have to decide on whether or not you want to proceed with.

That's the nice thing about mining.  You pay once for the rig, then you can mine whatever is most profitable.  Once it drops on the list, you can switch to something else.  I plan to mine ZCL until the fork in the hopes that Bitcoin Private launches because then I will have a fair amount of ZCL by then and the profitability will have come from more than just what I mined.  If it doesn't work out, the worst I can say is my mining efforts were LESS profitable (but not nothing) than it could have been and it'll have only been one month.  No biggie.  I believe the benefit of potential gains outweighs the risk of potential loss in my case.  Thanks for your input.

I apologize.  I thought I had gone into the alt-coin section... I will repost over there.

This will almost certainly get moved by a Moderator to the an Alt-Coin forum. Might want to read the "stick" posting at the top of this forum about it being Bitcoin only.

I use whattomine.com to determine what's the best currency to mine.  I started mining Zclassic last night because it shot up to #1 in profitability, doubling profits from what I was mining.  Will it attract so many new miners that it won't be profitable anymore?
