I was going to offer, but I think casascuis could do it better (and cheaper) anyways.  It should be fairly straightforward.  Key pairs are obvious in are wallet.dat file.

I am willing to do it at no charge... [email protected].

I am the original poster of a months-old thread describing the methodology on how to recover a trashed file.  The first thing I will do is manually hex-edit the file and inspect it for markers indicating the presence of keys.  If they are there, I will manually extract the keys.

I will do it for a positive rating on bitcoin-otc if you're able to provide such a rating.  Otherwise, I will do it just for the amusement of having done so and the right to brag about it later in the thread.  If no recovery is possible, I will give you an analysis of what's in your file and how I came to the conclusion.

If the wallet.dat file doesn't really contain wallet.dat, the CD route may work, as it is possible to scan an entire hard drive looking for the key markers, and rip the keys right off the relevant sectors.  You'll have to do that on your own though, just because of the likely size of your disk image.

for the record i have had lots of helpful folks who have offered to try to recover it for me, only problem is it appears that the wallet.dat the recover program recovered is not really wallet.dat at all but some nonsense crap. I am going to try a recovery again and see if I can get a wallet.dat that is usable.
Yeah, recovery programs won't be very good at recovering wallet.dat files. I've found your other thread, and given that you're recovering your wallet from a reformat what you need to do is get a 32-bit Linux CD (Ubuntu or something similar), and follow the instructions here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcoin-private-keywalletdat-data-recovery-tool-25091

Edit: Be sure to read and follow the warnings though.

Make a bet of sorts:

Sell your wallet for someone, for less than the value of the wallet (obviously).

If the person manages to fix the wallet, they keep it (and all the money minus what they paid you), if they do not fix the wallet, you walk away with some money, and they with zero.

That'd be... stupid. Someone has current and future access to all those keys and any money you ever get to them then.

Use a tool and read some googled documents on the subject, it's less difficult than you think. A few hours even you could get something worked out.
