An operating system should not be transferring data out of your computer without your permission, period, it's that simple, if you care about privacy at all you'd understand why it's a bad thing but clearly you don't so if something happens to you that's your own fault.

I have to say, I like most linx oses.
I think you can now use raspbian on normal computers and the other favourite of many is Ubuntu.
Remember to try to learn some of the commandline commands first, some will boot in terminal first unless you select otherwise, if you don't now the commands you have to quickly find them.
I think for shutting down you use "shutdown -h now" (pretty useful for installing applications as you have ewer tasks running.
