Why don't you try windows server 2012?
Its more stable and you can create watchdog services and you will keep your rig always working.
Win 7 and win 10 crashes for me.

what hashrates are you getting with win server and what gpu are you using

I suggest you to move to Windows 10. With a good configuration, it'll work like a charm. I use it on all my rigs without problem. server drivers are different most times, so if you try them, please write what happened.

Why would you want to use for mining one powerful computer? I recommend you to use two old phones. Each allows you to connect 4 GPU. In the end, hardware is cheaper, windows any version and in case of a failure half of the equipment will remain in operation. Think about it.

(I tried installing w10 but for some reason I was only getting 2mh/s in etc mining instead of 22-23)

That's weird because windows 10 was the only one that got me the best hashrates. You just need to update it and get the correct and latest drivers for your graphics cards from their manufacturers websites which are compatible with windows 10.

Windows 7 worked too but I didn't really like it. Windows 8 gave the worst experience ever. I didn't even handle it for 12 hours before throwing it away. Not only in mining but generally, it's always slow, laggy and never does what it has to do.

I'm running a 1060 mining rig as well and I get 24.2 with ether and 330 sol/s with zec (with the best overclock settings I've found so far).

Hi,

Currently I have a windows 7 mining rig with 6x Nvidia 1060 6gb

I need to add another 2x Nvidia 1060 6gb, can I still keep my current win7 os or do I have to install windows10 ?

(I tried installing w10 but for some reason I was only getting 2mh/s in etc mining instead of 22-23)

Windows 10 is absolutely the best operating system for mining Ethereum. You have to be careful and not rush just after installation to start mining, rather start by going to Windows Updates and Update until the last Update of Windows. This will take a while as Windows 10 is the final operating system of Microsoft so they have added lots of updates since the presentation of Windows 10. Once you update Windows 10, you can start mining operations and I am sure you will not have again 2 mh/s .

For low hashrate on win10, you can solve it by updating windows to the latest version.

windows 10 can run upto 8 GPUS,  see this thread https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/14176/what-is-the-windows-10-gpu-limit

Check the following for possible cause of poor hashrate,

- Powersupplies, ensure that your powersupply could handle the 8 GPU's you mention
- Risers, faulty risers will also cause poor hashrate
- Drivers, ensure that drivers are compatible to miners
- Temperatures, heat can also degrade hashrates

good luck
