I like the way the forum is. The current focus is on BTC and that is how it should be. Alt coins are temporary, bitcoin is forever.

@KingScorpio: I'm curious now -- from a cryptoeconomic perspective, which alt coins appear to be the most promising to you and why? I'm not trying to kick off an argument about which crypto is the most promising, I'm just curious which socio-economic aspect are worth discussing about. Obviously it can't just be a decline in Bitcoin price, as that would be an incredibly silly metric to determine the long-term viability of a cryptocurrency, especially given the fact that the alt market is heavily bleeding as well.

bitcoin has now reached another low at 5800 and many of those that are more educated, have a broader economic understanding beyond IT tech,
There wouldn't be any "economy" if wasn't for IT tech. You mean to say these low life MBA grads are smarter than Bitcoin's creator now?

this forum however is still bitcoin fixed, and there could be a goodupgrade if the altcoin section would be transformed into a serious cryptoeconomic related board.
"CryptoEconomic" - Fancy way to address shit coins.

considering that bitcoin would then crash and start being forgotten like netscape navigator (first browser) this forum might have a future then
There is place for you : r/btc You will really have fun with like minded folks there.

What do you call tissue paper? Probably Kleenex. Just an example of how being first out the door does carry weight.

no it doesnt, because in technology there is no real first, because the chain of developments is widespanned, who has build the first car?`unclear, who has won the space race? unclear, its not even sure bitcoin was first,

AOL was first internetprovider in germany, no one cares about that, additionally, there are rumers that mutliple projects were under development at the same time, like waves, ripple that had very early funding. or therer was similar technology in usage, not the internet but server transactions, and with pow becoming very unpopular, since its energywasting we might return there soon again.

you are using the label "first" as main marketing instrument, but its insignifican't considering countless other featuers money is supposed to have.

no one uses today chinese or french paper money worldwide, even if it was the first paper zertified money. people follow completely different currencies called, "coins of their style"

Bitcoin being dead, more like righting itself. The last year has been insane for BTC, and even more so from September to December. So people need to take a step back and breath to put things into perspective.

ohm no its was an irrational hype, powered by lies, and uncorrect promises, in theory the entire bitcoin ponzi scheme might still end up with countless people in jail

first:
1. currency of the future,

who are you as a bunch of private people that you are allowed to define the currency of the future? we have a worldwide system where considering national economic strategy, money is being created.

bitcoin was not first because others were to stupid to create a cryptocurrency, it was first because you dared first to create and market something as currency

second lie:

2. decentral

Bitcoin is not decentral its a marketing slogan, in truth the asociation of miners is bitcoins centre,
you can call bitcoin max, decentral from central banks.

I can't say that it will be the driving force to replace FIAT, but I do believe in what ever system comes into place it will be the backbone. Hell a lot of these alt coins are forks of BTC, so that's gotta say something.
There are definitely limitations to BTC being your go to for buying a coffee, or picking up fast food; but there are ideas coming out to deal with these issues.

fiat wont be replaced, insitutional fiats wont be replaced, they are whats powering the worlds economic and social stability, not a bunch of propagandacoins, that bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies stand for.

I think you have a fair point in regards to modifying the Alt coin section, to reflect the current success of some of these coins and pave the way for a better environment to discuss them. I just don't agree we need to shift the entire forum in that direction.

i think there are basically 3 outcomes

-> global chaos and lost of gobal connectivity, no more internet, no more cryptocurrencies.

->cryptocurrencies will succed but wont have a lot of trust everywhere in the world

->cryptocurrency market will be evolve, but a new form of regulation will evolve with it.

in 2 of those cases, you will have to evolve the altcoinsection, into a regulated financial market, similar like the capital market of an ecomonpolis.
wont be easy however as this financial market will be extremly confusing 1600 altcoins is not even true there are much much more altcoins out there, and secondly there are now more and more indexes comming out in which bitcoin will not be listed.

oh and people will start using filtration systems to filter out cryptocurrencies they dont support. that will be another part of the worlds future.

every single altcoin popping up out of nothing has in the first place basically the same legitimacy as bitcoin does. being first is meaningless

Yes bitcoin is collapsed maybe til the end of 2018 we don't know, but,I believed that the price of Bitcoin will rise again..because for me Bitcoin is the mother of all altscoin currency,so hoping and praying altcoin also are become accepted to the bank or any merchants

every single altcoin popping up out of nothing has in the first place basically the same legitimacy as bitcoin does. being first is meaningless, and even that is a very questionable feature regarding bitcoin.

there are now around 10 cryptocurrency indexes. and many dont list bitcoin or xrp anymore,

like for example, china, which delisted bitcoin from its rating/index, and is absolutely not fond of it.

i expect the amount of indexes to increase even more, and they will vary in their point of view even more.

people will create ideologic factions and ther will be those opposing bitcoin like jack ma.

We are Bitcoin!
nope i am not bitcoinsectish, i think differently

bitcoin will be opposed, like a bad gimmick in the end.
Well thank you for the negative vibe you are having. Why not you create your own community and start planting your brain in them?

We/I am happy even if Bitcoin price drops under 1500$ or $1000 or below $500. Price is not what I am looking for, it's not my motivation. I am looking forward to a world where we will not need bankers (manipulative trusted community who only cares about their power business) for banking. Give the power back to the regulars.

PS: with this having in mind (i think differently), the less you think about this forum is the better for us you, I guess. (responding to your topic title: with bitcoin price collapsing why not start transform this forum?)

many of those that are more educated, have a broader economic understanding beyond IT tech, know that this kind of speculative cryptocurrency cant be the future.

I love leading statements like this, insinuating people lack intelligence or knowledge for believing something different that OP. This puts people in a place where they're more likely to disagree with you.

The price fluctuation has to do with a multitude of factors, none of which suggest that bitcoin is collapsing, and is more likely the opposite.
Laws are being introduced to address taxation and regulation, and exchange hacks are an issue with Mt. Gox double dipping bitcoin prices(quite literally), and the most recent Korean exchange hack caused the beginning of this current downward trend. These issues suggest mass adoption and popularity, not the opposite. Yes, the price is taking a hit, but it's because it's desirable for those involved in the crypto community and people outside of the crypto community don't understand what events cause prices to drop, they only see the price drop and it scares them. Rightfully so! You shouldn't invest if you don't have knowledge on the way the investment works. But as exchanges gain increased security and regulations and laws are solidified, the price should steadily increase to interest new investors.

Overall, I'm sure this has happened many times over the years that bitcointalk has been active, and to suggest changing the forum when it's our opportunity to shine, is absurd to me.
There is a strong correlation between bitcoin prices and new user registration/forum spam, and when I suggest now is your opportunity, I mean it. Now is the time when we'll have lower registration, lower spam, etc. because prices are so low. If there are less registrations and spam, the forum can become close to what it was meant to be, a place to discuss bitcoin, like.. actual conversations!

So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
bitcoin has now reached another low at 5800 and many of those that are more educated, have a broader economic understanding beyond IT tech,
Its temporary. Just like every other rise and fall this is just another spectrum of that cycle of money that keeps on occurring in the market. Whats new in that?

If your suggestion is implemented in any case, the staff should keep a back up of current forum. It will save a lot of work when bitcoin price recovers in future.
Keep dreaming because it wont happen. Forum will remain as it is.

Preparing ourselves for the possible future of bitcoin is a good thing. No one knows how exactly bitcoin will be in a couple of years.
Let this forum welcome new cryptocurrency that can be a possible new bitcoin in the future.

So far alts have not really fared all too well during bear markets either though. Only few bring something new to the table. Assuming Bitcoin dies, what makes you think that alts will fare better? Apart from Stablecoins, which face challenges of their own, alts too are speculative cryptocurrencies. Arguably even moreso than Bitcoin.

While I disagree with your sentiment that Bitcointalk should focus more on alts, I think that more serious discussion of concepts that possibly go beyond Bitcoin is something I'd definitely welcome. For the most part this seems to be covered by the Development & Technical Discussion board, although it seems that some threads end up there for the lack of a more fitting section ie. what I assume would be roughly the sub-board you had in mind.

Your proposal to strengthen the altcoin section is a commendable one. But to think that bitcoin is no longer relevant is like undermining the whole idea of cryptocurrency.

Yeah, right (so other crypto-currencies have a better chance)!

this forum however is still bitcoin fixed,
From what I'm seeing, it's beyond BTCitcoin (as a whole).

there could be a goodupgrade if the altcoin section would be transformed into a serious cryptoeconomic related board.
I'm still new to this term (cryptoeconomic) but "based on what I've read", can't see the transformation that you suggested but instead an additional sub-board (maybe).

It bounced off that low, just FYI.  Bitcoin is back above $6100 currently.

start being forgotten like netscape navigator
I loved Navigator!  Fond memories of that one.  As to whether bitcoin is going to be replaced by something better--it very well might.  But a decline in price doesn't mean it's dying, and frankly I don't see anything that's even remotely a contender for bitcoin's crypto-crown.

As to the rest of your confusing thesis, as long as these shitty ICOs keep getting sphinctered out by the hundreds, and as long as they use bitcointalk as an idiot pool for advertising, the forum isn't going to die.  Right now it seems to be as popular as ever.  I think you're just depressed about bitcoin's precipitous plummet, and you might need some professional counseling.

Bitcoin is going to recover, though.  Maybe you'll start getting that rosy feeling again once we break $10,000.  Hang in there; it's going to happen.
