This is the land of wolves now & you're not a wolf
I think the best for the ecosystem would be for a decent amount of small new exchanges opening, as well as maybe 1-3 major exchanges opening.   I think a US based exchange (which there are already a few in the works), will be good despite all the damn laws and guidelines that have to be followed in the United States.   The more options that people have, the better (usually).

Who knows?
For big money Bitstamp seems like a good place.
I think it has already replaced Gox for that matter. E.g. a big move today started at Bitstamp.

Hopefully exchanges become more transparent in the process.

I hope some of them do.  With the army of Kool-Aid drinking morons still defending Gox, though, it seems pretty likely there will always be a bustling market for brazen scams and incompetent snake oil vendors.

Gox no longer the number one exchange.  This leads to people flocking to the next exchange.  Will more people join bitstamp, btc-e etc?

Gox wasn't the largest exchange for months before the latest news.  In fact, it had sunk to third place amid growing concern over its erratic behavior.

Now, it isn't even an exchange at all.  It's just a bankrupt shell.

Personally, I believe Gox opened people's eyes to the vulnerability of exchanges to hacks and also possible theft.

Will more people (do what I plan to do) buy off localbitcoins and cold store (offline).

I am also curious of those who still keep amounts on exchanges.  Are they large or less than 30% used to short trade etc.
