Apropos to this, I just found a relevant link: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/06/macbook-pro-unfixable/
1 out of 10 repairability score from iFixit.  Roll Eyes

Of all of the parts they complain about how hard they are to fix, the worst by far is the display.  Laptop screens get cracked, and most of them are sold for more then the value of the computer by the manufacturer, but at fair prices by third parties.  A common 15" lcd repair by Apple is $600, but by a third part shop it is half that or less as the shop can buy the LCD for about $100.

The retina display on the pro merges the top glass (custom for the retina pro!) with the raw LCD panel.  So now instead of a part sourced by a few makers (LG, Samsung, AU opt etc), you get a single source only from Apple directly.  So in that case, a non-retina repair would be about $600.

I can hardly wait for the 27" iMac with 5120x2880 retina display.

I highly doubt the iMac will carry such a display any time soon.

There is always a chance, but iMacs have always been integrated graphics, which would really make the performance suffer.

A flawless Retina display in 27 inch size would also be mighty expensive. You'll probably be looking at close to $1500 just for the panel alone.

Anyways, I've decided to retract the sale of this laptop. I'll be putting more money into pimping my workstation/mining rig instead Smiley

Just put in an order of 20 compression fittings, another quad radiator, a fan controller and another 4 Scythe Ultra Kazes so I can actually work in the this room without going deaf.

This is just Apple killing the repair and upgrade markets so they can charge $200 to upgrade from 8 GB to 16GB of RAM when you can buy the same amount from Newegg for <$100.

Good thing they put in USB 3.0 and another Thunderbolt port so you can get more space in.

Shocked Shocked Wait, what?

Are we finally going to get some competitive display tech, above "HD" 1920x1080? That would be great... my old 3840×2400 T221-DG5 is only good for 48hz, which can get annoying sometimes.

Yes.  Apple will be the one pushing the market forward, though they are not the first as IBM did it a decade ago.

Apple is most probably going to slowly introduce 'retina' tech across their product line.

I want about $1900 (whatever that turns out to be in BTC - currently 319BTC) for it shipped.

It has several superficial scratches along the bottom as well as a small dent on the bottom right and maybe 1 or 2 dings along the sides.

I have upgraded it to 8 GB of RAM, otherwise all the other specs are available at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2395423,00.asp?tab=Specs. It is in warranty until October.

US48 only. Willing to use free escrow services.

Pictures available upon request.

P.S. If you want to mine with it, it pulls about 80MH/s =P
