Nobody believes that anyone would set another person on fire. It was all a publicity stunt to the onlookers... until the woman was a crispy critter. But by then it was too late for them to do anything. Don't be too harsh on them.

The most worrying thing about this story is not even the motive for the murder because the guy was later apprehended and he'll face the full weight of the law. The horror is bystanders not doing anything to help the victim, I really don't understand what is wrong with people in this generation. In life and death situations people will rather bring out their mobile phones to record instead of helping. People are so obsessed with capturing horrible moments instead of giving helping hands to fellow human beings.

Everybody wants to be the first to share bad news on social media so that their report will trend. Before the advent of the internet people used to be quick to give helping hands, everybody will rush to rescue people that are in need but this days they will impulsively go for their phones to record instead of helping. I believe that this uncaring act is one of the few demerits of social media, people are desperate to share and get updates especially if it's bad news.

If this happened in London ,Dublin or Glasgow there would be people jumping up and down on that murderers head until it was like a squashed melon if there was no cop available to do the job and others would be rolling the victim on the ground and putting the flames out

Pure cliche that could happen anywhere.
I wonder what you'd do when confronted with that atrocity?
it is still happening in different part of the world but for the most part, it is an act of jungle justice that can warrant passerby to watch someone being burnt to ashes while the person commiting the act is on standby and he is not being stopped. if the person in question is a thief or part of a gang that are known to terrorize an area who got caught in the act, their is little or nothing that passers by and the security can do about it since it will involve a mob action but anything out of that kind of scenario and people sit back and do nothing, they deserve to be arrested.

the society is becoming too cruel and the rate at which peoples heart have becomes really hardened is on a totally strange level. social media has even gone to worsen the whole thuing becasue when a crime or even an asault is taking place, peopole will prefer to video the act rather than putting it to a stop.

See? There's another one of your problems. Freedom of religion is possibly the strongest of the freedoms, and is in the 1st Amendment.

The guy and the woman were simply of a different religion than most of us. And he was carrying out religious punishment on the woman... punishment that she was aware of in her religion, and deserved for doing wrong.

All you would be doing is breaking the 1st Amendment by disallowing them their freedom of religion. You should be punished under the law for trying to steal someone's freedom. You even admit that you were trying to do this.

Quite disgusting of you to even suggest this was nothing but a cold blooded murder by someone who was supposed to be locked up a long time ago. Even if the woman was aware of what was going on and she wanted to die, it would imply the man was carrying out assisted suicide, which is illegal in many jurisdictions on the planet, probably in the most of the states if the USA as well.
Sarcastically doing playing this case in the way you do just proves you either lack of empathy for the victim or you take some sadistic pleasure on seeing and illegal alien committing a horrible crime in drowsy daylight, in order to further push whatever narrative you have in mind and gets repeated non-stop in channels like Fox and Newsmax.
I am sure with this unfortunate incident they will milk at least a week of content in their broadcast about how immigrants are a threat for the security of the country and compare cities like NY to third world countries.

Yep. It's sad that it had to happen. Probably a family religion thing. He was the selected one to do it, by his religious status, or family status.

Well, she is gone. Nothing to do about her, now. So, focus on mercy for him. Remember due process of law. Remember that he, "fanned the flames on her with hi(s) own shirt to ensure she was completely engulfed in fire." He had to get the job done. And to save her from suffering any more than necessary, he fanned the flames.

This whole incident probably is making him rethink his religion. Be merciful, and help him and his family find the right religion. Unmerciful people are just as bad as having the wrong religion or no religion.

So we have an abominable murderer who commits a horrific murder and you put the focus on the people around him?

You remind me of this thread:

Disgust with people of greed ignoring their duties

... what I don't know is why you put the focus on the doormen and not on the giant black man who attacks the old woman without her having done anything to him.

I wonder what you'd do when confronted with that atrocity?

Whatever I could do to help the person with the flames on their back as they would be the immeadiate priorirty but at least I wouldn't stand around doing NOTHING. Taking them to the ground from the bottom beneath the flames and dragging them out of the carriage might have helped while protecting their face and hair from going up or literally tearing the clothing off them if possible while using whatever means available to smother any flames left. Literally whatever was humanely possible and as quickly as possible. If there were already people actually getting the job done on her and I was aware of that guy being the perp (which in the confusion may not have been possible) I would have asked another commuter to assist in restraining him until the police were there to make an arrest or try to knock the fucker out with whatever I had from a piece of furniture in the subway or a beer bottle or something out of a thrash can. I don't know exactly but I 100% would have done whatever I could. And what would YOU have done exactly?

Social media/content creation has made the world go mad. Instead of helping the victim people decided to make videos from the incident. Maybe they will upload it on some social media platforms and make money from it. In my area it is common to see accident victims being filmed and posted on the internet meanwhile what they needed was first aid and assistance to take them to hospitals.

Nobody knows they reason why this man set this woman on fire. Investigation showed that there was no interaction between both of them before he ignited the fire. I think the suspect might be going through some mental problems. I am also surprised that the victim couldn't sense that somebody has set her on fire until the fire become uncontrolled. We have to wait until investigation is concluded for us to know what really went wrong.

They are as evil as the murderer and all should face prison for being worthless pieces of shit.

Now I know why the US NEEDS a wall urgently built to protect Canadians (who are also contaminated from the mental illness) but mexicians might be safe once the wall is fully built.

It is bad that we watch things go wrong without any action to prevent it. Touching part, there were persons who could intervene but they prefer to record and spread it online. We should focus more on saving lives than on filming.

It kind of reminds me the old saying about how all it is needed for bad people to get away with anything if good people who do nothing and get in their way. I believe it applies in this scenario.
It is not only the huge sense of invidualism which exist within the United States and specially in such a big city like New York, when each one of the residents seem to have adopted the idea they are on their own and not supposed to trust anyone at all, contributing to them just staying around and documenting and disgusting crime with their phones as if they were androids with no feelings or sense of empathy on what is going on, same for the police officers who were there and could not have the decency to apprehend the suspect at the spot for killing and innocent woman for whatever reason.
It only show who sick the west is getting and how likely it will continue to get worse with the divisive rethoric Donald Trump will push forward in the coming years.

Crazy things are indeed happening.
Sorry I didn't get to take a look at the source link for some reason that are personal, but if there's one thing I know, It's the fact that shits like this don't just happen, except the murderer in question is a fucking psychopath or a serial killer, otherwise I believe something must've triggered the incident and also caused all the  witnesses present to disassociate themselves, so if the source didn't state the reason why the woman was set ablaze and no one intervened,  then the story no really clear.

The love for the woman isn't strong enough to move them to act otherwise even the most introverted and cautious person will ignore all consequences and rush to save the woman and probably apprehend the man, and then later wonder how he/she was able to achieve the feat. That is what the force of love can do to people "subconsciously", unfortunately it's diminishing really quick in this world, especially amongst city dwellers who depend too much on governments for almost everything and programmed by the media to hate or be suspicious of neighbors. They will be expecting the police to intervene, scared of what will happen if they personally intervene, etc. These worries and expectations are stronger than the love for the woman

Last night I was taking a look at the most important news from the United States now the presidential campaign is pretty much over and I felt curious about how a woman die within one of the Subway wagons of New York City. When I first took a look at the story I thought I was rather a very unfortunate accident. Imagine my face when I further read and watched videos about it I realized it was the act of a man, who set the woman ablaze on purpose and fanned the flames on her with hi own shirt to ensure she was completely engulfed in fire.
All this scene happened while people around limited themselves to record with their phones and local police actually allowed the man to flee the scene (he was later apprehended in a different location after a seemingly short manhunt).

To add salt to injury, the alleged murder is an illegal alien from central america, which had been deported already few years ago.

What do you think about all this messy situation?
It is very scary, investigators have not even been able to verify whether the woman as sleep when initially engulfed in flames or under the effect of some drug. One cannot believe something like this could happen in one of the biggest cities of the civilized world.

Something out of an horror movie

Quote
A suspect accused of killing a woman by setting her on fire on a subway train has been charged with murder in a New York court.

Sebastian Zapeta allegedly set the unidentified woman's clothes on fire, and then fanned the flames by waving a shirt around her, which caused the flames to fully engulf her, according to the criminal complaint.

The 33-year-old faces charges of first and second degree murder, as well as arson for the attack on Monday. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Friday.
