Popular wallets that you cannot fully control your funds and are at risk, well, except for blockchain.com and not sure for wallet.btc.com, never used them yet.

Blockchain.com wallet let you fully control your funds, as you have the private keys.
The problem is that as it is hosted in a server, other people may also be controlling them...

im surprised to see that most of the list on your poll are mainly popular wallets , not just popular but they are also good wallets  . though there are controversy that recently explode about the coinbase wallet  .

I have not been able to remove my coins from my BTC.com wallet since the 18th of May 2019. I have tried customer support repeatedly and can not get a response except from a bot. I have used their services successfully in the past so I haven't been scammed except by Bitmain. I can't believe I am alone in this?

2. LBC exchange as a wallet is more secure than Blockchain.com/Xapo/Coinbase combined. I wish LBC actually creates an online wallet service to take over these terrible services.
How so? LBL owns every single private-key on their exchange. At least Blockchain.com claims to store everything encrypted and only decrypt locally on the user's end. You also have your wallet seed which you can use to restore the wallet with Electrum or any other supported wallet. If LBL freezes your account (due to KYC), your coins are stuck in there and there is nothing you can do.

i think your terminology needs a little bit of improvement.
first of all it is best to call these "web wallets" instead of "online wallets" because an online wallet can refer to a hot wallet on your desktop that is connected to the internet (is online) but a web wallet is a  wallet on the web!
additionally Coinbase and XAPO (in my opinion) should not even be categorized as a wallet because they are accounts since they control your private keys and your money and only give you an account in their database. i am not familiar with Freewallet and btc.com wallet.

so my choice is blockchain.com first because it is a web wallet not a web account so it can answer your question and second because of all the bugs it had in the past and it still has including bugs with their fee estimation down to security bugs such as usage of a bad random engine that has led to fund losses.

I voted here Coinbase.
They had a poor system and lack of support team to fix the customer issues. Sometimes their support gave canned responses irrelevant to my case as what I have complaining and contradicted their own statements on their website. That was very annoying to me as a customer of them.

LBC also has the 2FA but high fees to deposit your fund as well.
1. LBC never claimed to be a bitcoin wallet. They're way better than that.

I voted for Xapo without any doubts. It's just terrible. First, they have fees for incoming small transactions, what is ridiculous.

localbitcoins does this as well. tbh, i suppose it makes some sense as a hosted wallet provider. users probably inundate their wallet with small unspendable outputs and they need additional fees to sweep these outputs in order to let customers spend them.
Quite understandable for Localbitcoin's case but this shouldn't be happening for a wallet

aren't they in the same exact position? both xapo and localbitcoins offer a hosted wallet service where customers don't control their own private keys. so both have to deal with the problem of customers depositing dust---they have to spend lots of fees to sweep it.

any third party wallet/exchange will have this problem. they either need to charge customers for small deposits or they need to charge higher withdrawal fees to cover the expense.

LBC also has the 2FA but high fees to deposit your fund as well.

They must show the control on private key but they were adding up the many security law enforcement and upgrade their privacy policies.

Those needs to change before the customer service problems also needs to change it.

Not really, xapo is more than just a wallet, it is a hosted one and is essentially a business-- it needs to profit.

What I hate about xapo is how they work like exchanges with all the blocking, extreme kyc and most of all, the terrible support. Wait until the peak times arrived when there's a shit ton of clients using them, you'll see the worst side of all the wallets listed here, if not all, most.

i'm not sure when but apparently they added a separate option for advanced users to customize fees but i don't think most people know about or use it

Pretty convenient for blockchain.com to make it look like a high mountain to climb for noobs. It doesn't require much coding work to pop up a slider where people can choose a fee based on what they consider a fair price for their priority. As if 'advanced' users use blockchain.com, lol. They use clients such as Electrum or GreenWallet. Not this garbage.

The good thing about blockchain.com not supporting Segwit is that it will end up empty due to the increasing legacy fees, because people will then be forced to use other services or wallets. The problem will solve itself with time.

I would honestly be avoiding all of them for high amounts. It's simply not secure enough to store any large amount with a hosted wallet.

If I had to choose a service that is the worst, it is probably Coinbase.

In the past they've demonstrated the tendency of pursuing new features to attract new customers, as opposed to fixing things that were broken already that needed to be addressed (i.e., their support system). Furthermore, they've demonstrated a tendency of suspending customer accounts that have anything to do with tainted coins from gambling sites, etc., even if there is no tangible association.

But again, I wouldn't use them, even the ones that let you hold your private keys like blockchain.com. The process of exporting has becoming so tedious that it's not worth your time.

You're right about it. In past lot of faucet users used Xapo wallet. Usually faucet users receive lot of small transactions and it's not good thing. Back in 2017, when Bitcoin transaction fees become huge and there was network congestion Xapo implemented fees for incoming small transactions because such small transaction wasn't beneficial for their service.
Now I just remembered that in past Xapo, same like Coinbase had no transaction fees for their users, they covered it from their own pocket. This policy helped them to attract huge number of users.

the alternative is to do what most exchanges do---charge very high withdrawal fees that are orders of magnitude higher than what you would normally pay in your own wallet.

it's the fault of people using third party services to deposit lots of small outputs and dust. the services have to pay the associated fee costs and recover them somehow. if a hosted wallet isn't charging for this, then they are subsidizing the cost another way.

I voted for Xapo without any doubts. It's just terrible. First, they have fees for incoming small transactions, what is ridiculous. Second, their transactions fees is really big and if you want to send big priority transaction you have to overpay a lot. Third, it's impossible to login here without using mobile app. I'm not even talking that they are randomly blocking users accounts. And cherry on the top - you don't have control of your crypto here.
Blockchain.com in my opinion is really good as web wallet in my opinion, I don't have bad things to say about it. Oh, guy above reminded SegWit, but it's tiny issue comparing with other wallets.
Freewallet.org - I haven't used this wallet, but I heard mixed opinions about here. But from what I saw at least their supporting is active here.
Btc.com is neither a good wallet, neither very bad one.
Coinbase - I'm not sure that they should be considered as wallet at all. As wallet it's bad obviously, as exchange - there are many worse options in the market.

Blockchain.com is actually shitty. It might be an initial landing site for newbies, but they due to there not being Segwit, have to pay much higher fees. Newbies will of course not understand that they haven't upgraded to Segwit, but they will be confronted with much higher fees, and they will feel that in their wallet for sure. Not what I consider user friendly.
That's correct, I had forgot about segwit.

I believe that even a bigger problem is their fee system. They do not allow you to control the exact fee you want to pay (at least about 2 years ago when I used their system), and they suggest a very high fee.

yeah, segwit makes a slight difference but the biggest problem is horrible fee estimation. same as copay, they offer users fee rates by level of urgency, but all the rates are way too high. there's no option to send with only a few sat/byte.

i'm not sure when but apparently they added a separate option for advanced users to customize fees but i don't think most people know about or use it: https://support.blockchain.com/hc/en-us/articles/209283686-Sending-Bitcoin

the worst wallet is blockchain.com; I remember until today the last day I used blockchain.com:

I had enabled 2 factors in my blockchain.com account, and that day I needed money urgently, so I went to my blockchain.com account and when I log in, I wait to receive the sms with the code, the sms does not enter on my cell phone ... I wait for hours and nothing. The sms did not enter my cell phone, days went by and I decided to send support ticket and they sent me a link to disable the 2 factors. I make all the procedures to disable the 2 factors, but it was useless because it did not work. I was already desperate and I gave up. until days later that started to receive many sms with the code of my wallet of blockchain.com

I immediately make login, withdraw all my funds and disabled the 2 factors by sms and looked for another wallet

I understand you were upset with their security system, but this doesn't make blockchain a shitty wallet imo.
You shouldn't have done any of what you said (tickets, sms, support etc). You should just have imported the privatekey and used somewhere else. You could use it even on blockchain.info again without 2fa

A shitty wallet is a wallet that doesn't give you access to your keys.

Currently I'm using Electrum and don't see much point in using an online wallet anymore. The good old zero fee days are over and that means they don't offer a worthy to join advantage anymore.

years ago i used to say "it's more convenient" to use online wallets but tbh, it's not. that was just me being biased towards what i was familiar with---specifically, blockchain.info.

with wallets like electrum (on mobile as well) out there, there's no way to say browser-based wallets are more convenient or easier to use anymore. to boot, blockchain.info has a terrible UI now and the fee interface sucks too.
I've got used to Blockchain wallet when just starting up here on crypto and i believe that most people on earlier years do have that experience

on using up this wallet but as years passed when wallets been created like electrum this is way more better than web wallets as of this moment.
Not that heavy or does need to download the whole blockchain thingy.

I by default would avoid sites such as BTC.com considering how they are doing their best to promote Bcash over Bitcoin, and that mostly in an unethical manner that affects newbies not knowing what's good or bad.

Coinbase was pretty decent until they started asking for your ID in order to use it. I have been using them for like two years prior to their policy change, and it always worked just fine for me. Too bad they went full KYC/AML.

Coinbase should be tagged as exchange although newbie use it as wallet.

True, but they also have a Coinbase wallet product that is a bit different. Coinbase wallet allows you to store the private keys on the device you're using, which means that Coinbase in no shape or form has any access to your funds. This wallet is free to download and use without a Coinbase.com account, which is a good thing.

I gave it a try once and it really looks like they paid more attention to how they market shitcoins and tokens than to actually offer people a solid user experience.

Bitcoin FTW!
They're all almost equally terrible in my eyes. There's just so many better alternatives out there for storing bitcoin that web or online wallets are probably the worst way you can store coins. I really hate Blockchain's wallet solely for the purpose that a lot of newbies tend to use their wallet as their first means of storing Bitcoin, and a large amount of people get their wallets compromised using Blockchain. Their UI's pretty decent though, and there's plenty of customizeability offered as well. I used to use Blockchain's mobile wallet for daily transactions, but I've since switched over to Electrum for Android.

There was a wallet I remember which had you pay for a membership monthly or annually and they wouldnt charge you for any transactions fees of what you send from their wallet. They have long removed this membership infrastructure because when miners fee skyrocketed to $20 to send some satoshis they couldnt afford to do it any longer.
Now after a while I have seen reports of their customer complaining they were having their funds disappear or not show up in their wallets after a send was performed to their wallet addresses. I never followed up with these accusations against them so dont know if they are true or not. But it could be why people arent particularly directing anybody to use them.

It's funny how Coinbase ended up in this list of wallets, it's not even considered as wallet since you can't even export your address' private key.
They now didn't even call it as straight wallet in the support page, instead they call it "Wallet Services" like a respelled "Exchange-integrated Payment Processor".
I'm not against those kind of system though, it's convenient for small transactions.

Take full control of your tokens and collectibles by storing them on your own device.

as much as i hate blockchain (especially as the UI has gotten worse and worse over the years), i can't in good conscience say it's worse than hosted/custodial services like xapo, coinbase, and freewallet.

at least blockchain.com and btc.com allow you to control your own private keys.

they should all be avoided though. nobody should be using browser-based wallets where you are vulnerable to malicious code injections/MITM attacks.

Yeah, but for doing small payments during your routine it doesn't hurt, you also ususally don't keep a lot. It's more convenient than taking your HW and connect and then execute a TX. With a web-based wallet, you just log in via a browser in seconds.

i hear that.....i just hate to see new users getting sucked into bad security practices. i think more people than we'd like to think are storing most/all their funds on wallets like these.

with choices like electrum, or mycelium on mobile, it just seems like a no-brainer. why use a remotely executed app when we can run a wallet (including spv) from our own secure environment? it doesn't seem any more convenient to me to use a browser. admittedly i used to do that years ago (store funds on blockchain.info and use it as my main wallet) but from a UX/convenience standpoint i don't even understand why i chose that. i think i was just ignorant about better options.

Xapo and blockchain, I remember creating accounts years back but nothing attracted me I found their UI horrible and look like the things haven't changed. I guess, I might use blockchain.com instead of those centralized wallet/exchange on the options. But if I have a choice to cross all of them, I will.

I didn't used blockchain.com anymore due to wallet incompatibility only to send using my mobile and don't want to use their website as well as it's too buggy but still using it for notification purpose when there are upcoming and outgoing funds on the wallet I imported as watch only address.

Maybe everyone here starts using Blockchain.info wallet and move to SegWit wallets.
Blockchain.info's problem is not being updated (too many bugs.) I went through a bad 1-month error at the end of 2017, when the fees were so high and wallet buggy for long periods with a lot of error.

As a beginner, I do not see it too bad compared to Freewallet.org (central bank wallet) wallet.btc.com (BCH FUD) & Xapo.com.

When I was a newbie here I didn't know which better wallet to store my ERC20 token from bounty reward, upon searching I found out this wallet and I downloaded their apps into my phone and looking an ETH address I don't know if they are supporting ERC20 token.
To cut a long story short, when I was planning to withdraw my token I didn't find the name of token there but in etherscan.io I saw my token was there. The thing that makes me more disappointed they don't have a support team to assist costumer troubles and maybe until now. I saw there is one of their representative here and they have scammed accusation.

It can found it here, FREEWallet.org SCAM ( Don't use any of their iOS or Android APP)

Their Fee system is crap! About 5 days ago when I got the payment I transferred to localbitcoins.

I really didn't look for the fees during the transaction. As usual, I sent the payment with the regular fee and it took 3 days to confirm the transaction.
They used 45sats/byte fee when the fee was needed over 60sats/byte... I think 60sats was the minimum fee required at that moment.

It is a very uncommon situation when the fees are too high. Their fee system really sucks, because I was paying very high fees there a few years ago. They used to overestimate fees. Now it's the opposite. Crap

I voted for Xapo, I haven't used most on the poll but I have used both blockchain.com and Xapo. I haven't used xapo for years and the last time I used them was when they have turned the fees higher and I'm pretty sure that many stopped using them because of that update.
Can you share your experience with blockchain.com? and how bad it was? because for me, luckily so far I haven't experienced anything bad with them.
Yeah definitely! First off, the user interface in blockchain.com's wallet is pathetic. Since their last update, it has gotten worse. They barely give attention to user experience. Secondly, the fee structure for sending money is out of the picture. I think they don't know the basic math behind calculating the transaction fees. Integrating BCH/ETH into the same damn website makes everything looks so messey. They can't even do a proper BTC wallet and integrating other coins is such a disappointment. Overall, they're the trashiest thing happened to the bitcoin world.

Just wanted to know what the fellow members think about the worst bitcoin/crypto related online wallets. Personally, all of them suck since one shouldn't be using an online wallet at all but my recent experience with Blockchain.com's online wallet has been devastating. I wish I could show the results of this thread to one of the developers of the respective wallet. Vote for your preferences and if you want me to add another option then I'd do that as well.
