CPU mining turned to be more profitable than GPU mining lately, if you know what/when to mine and what/when to sell.

I think you can make more profit from trading and investing your money than from mining.

Is it still worth it to buy GPUs and create a GPU farm (prolly no more than 5)
To mine Altcoins (using multipool) ?

I currently just mine with a single GPU and get about 300 KH/s so either want to stop or go bigger xD

Wait for R9-290x and see if its really much better for mining.

If that card can use under 200 watts, then it might be worth it.

Until about April, people were mining for speculation rather than a paycheck. As long as the electricity doesn't hurt you, go for it, but with the knowledge that you may not reach your ROI.

Really sad seeing litecoin drop from high of $3 to about 1.8$ while dificulty is at a thousand.

Shouldn't the price increase when difficulty increase?

It's the other way round - difficulty increase when price increase. When price decreases, difficulty should drop too.

The next difficulty for Litecoin is estimated to reduce even further as a result of the price drop. http://bitcoinwisdom.com/litecoin/difficulty

Mining is not off-the-bat profitable, in my opinion, unless you put in a load of cash when a new ASIC can be pre-ordered. Are you willing to invest a few thousand on a possible scam?

Saying that, mining is fun and it can be seen as an investment. BTC and alt-coins values might rise so maybe you will mine your $1 Microsoft/Apple share which will become millions.  Smiley

Mining has another benefit and that is an anonymous source for your money, if you solomine or use an anonymous email when in a pool. You wouldn't want the police to link your email with a crack deal on the silk roads would you Cheesy

Investing in a GPU is better than an ASIC if you like gaming since you can game and mine in off hours.
GPU's probably make more noise when pushed to the max.

I still use my GPU for mining new alt coins and hoping one will skyrocket  Wink

Have fun and good luck!

Not profitable anymore

Look here, https://btc-e.com/exchange/ltc_usd.

Litecoin price is dropping fast and difficulty is at 1040.

I just shut down my GPU recently because my electricity costs are higher now then LTC or multipool coins I mine. BTW, I've found that on average multipool profitability is lower then just mining straight LTC. It's sad, because they do have LTC on the pool, so theoretically mining on multiport  should be more profitable.

I'm mining XPM now with CPU

Whats your electricity cost, it should still be profitable.

Electricity cost matters here.

might as well go with an ASIC if you're gonna buy 4 or 5 more cards. If you don't like the BTC output, mine PPC or something.
