Sure it would. It would naturally garner bitcoin more exposure and legitimacy in the eyes of average people. Same situation as when large retailers accept bitcoin, I think.

I agree the extra PR would draw a lot of attention to bitcoin. Also with a large focus on how generous the community is, it will draw away from silk road and other controversial publicity bitcoin receives.

I think, yes
Large charities, esp the respected ones, get a lot of free PR some of which would come btc's way and confer additional legitimacy

I'm sure that we will benefit from it.
In fact, as the list of companies, charities, and others which accept Bitcoin, grow, Bitcoin will more and more become mainstream and more accepted in the public.

it could actually be argued that you could make charities incredibly more transparent using the block chain because you could assign company addresses to the funds and then we could check that nobody is trying to take a percentage on the side.
That is one really great aspect I didn't even think of.

It's something we do regularly here actually Cheesy because when people say they've sent something they post the actually transaction up and you can see if on the blockchain website really easily, the exact amount and everything, it's also used to solve some technical issues if there's ever a problem with the transaction itself.

You wouldn't be able to do this if you were dealing with paper money because the transaction data would all be in the bank's computers and there's no way you'd get access to it.

If they are legitimate, definitely, problem is there isn't a lot of trust going around in my country for charities these days, it could actually be argued that you could make charities incredibly more transparent using the block chain because you could assign company addresses to the funds and then we could check that nobody is trying to take a percentage on the side.
