Indeed, they are lots of crazy fun facts about bitcoin users of 12 years ago, but I don't think such a person would hodl for long since he is desperately in need of money to an extent of offering to change his name for bitcoin. If he gets the offer he'll definitely sell to make profits and solve his problems. Come to think of it, I've never thought about changing my name to bitcoin until I read about the tweet, he must have been into a problem to get such a strange thought. However, such an amount of bitcoin today is enough to change a name of a clan Grin not just a single person's name. Though it'll be weird to answer bitcoin knowing that friends will make fun of you when the market price is bearish; you're worth $16k
Things change rapidly including the bitcoin price transitions in the last 12 years. Today one can easily say anything about the past, fantasize about it or reflect on one's mistakes, but it becomes something that cannot be repeated.

Nowadays anyone will be willing to change their name to bitcoin if they get an offer of 2000 bitcoin. Even someone doesn't really care about their name anymore as long as their financial status is far more valuable. 2000 bitcoin will change everything in life, so what's the harm in changing the name? LOL

Happy new year friends, it's been a good start of another year, while we are distracted by many problems about the market; hacks, bankrupcy etc, we forget about the fun the community had in the early years of this decentralized currency. It seems to me that there are lesser fun facts of bitcoin in this era compared to the early days of bitcoin. Though they is no source to the claim that a man, 12 years ago, offered to change his name to bitcoin for 2000btc, it's just quite too funny and reveals how people made fun out of bitcoin; they had happy memories of bitcoin. Unlike today where people are surrounded with sad news about bitcoin and it's not just fun anymore, thinking about the Pizza day and the hodl thread those were some good moments. However, I'm not saying we are not making progress, yes we are, but then it's quite a difficult journey without fun.

I'd ask, 12 years ago 2000btc was nothing compared to now, would you do such a thing? Hence many users on twitter accepted that they can change their name to bitcoin for such amount Grin

--
2000BTC now is something that could be life changing then i would definitely be agreeing on changing my name for that amount. haha

Current conversions now
2000 = $33M

So who would be the one wouldnt be changing up  their names? One thing that boggles up our mind is that on those
fellas on those early years where btc value isnt that high or simply cheap but still considering that taking such action which it isnt
really that worth, if that guy had held up his coins up to this moment then its really a jackpot thing.

Changing it to bitcoin is the funny bit. I wouldn't change it to Bitcoin for 2000 btc worth dollars 12 years ago, that must be like a few hundred at best, probably not even that much? It just doesn't make sense to me to change it to bitcoin, if it was something serious then maybe, I always wanted to change my name to begin with, so maybe if someone offered a good name to me, then I may even change for free. However, if we are talking about 2000 btc of today's worth? Thats not even a question, I would literally change it to shit mcshit for that much money lol, it would give me freedom to do whatever I want in life, and have a happy one, and only official places would know it, I would keep using my old name when I meet new people anyway.

It is the eternal comparison not only with bitcoin, it happens with many assets, currencies, etc.  That classic question almost always has to do with millennials since they grew up with bitcoin and popularity it.

So in my case if I compare some things that I bought a few years ago they have gains or losses in an average of 10x, but in the case of bitcoin due to its initial price, any reference even of 1Btc is painful if it is the case.

Ahhh! Y Q:no.

I think putting name like bitcoin would be far more better.

Your comment reminds me of my wife's suggestion, we're about to have another baby, and my wife told me we could make the kid's nickname is bitcoin. I asked why and she said our economy has gotten better and more stable since I entered the market, and she wants it to stick with my baby. I'm thinking about that because in my country, calling like that won't be smooth. I think this is the craziest idea my wife has ever told me.

There is always a saying at my place: "A fake product does not have imitation." As people keep evolving and finding out the potential of Bitcoin, and as knowledge about Bitcoin grows, some people are trying to fight it; so many scam projects being launched end up taking investors' funds. Bitcoin has always been at the top, and as many people try to invest in it, a lot of people are also planning on doing some bad things that can give Bitcoin a bad name.

Recently, I came across a signature title, "Bitcoin Clean Up." Many people who love Bitcoin and wish to keep it going are also fighting to protect what they like. In most countries, Bitcoin mining has been stopped by the government, and miners are spending more on electricity. So, talking about Bitcoin fun before and now, you don't expect it to be the same, or do you? While there are lots of attacks on Bitcoin, we should minimize the fun and fight for it; that's just MO.

It's not possible to see such an offer again. Bitcoin 12 years ago is not Bitcoin today because its value is now known by many people compared to 12 years ago. I don't think such an offer is possible now. The price of 1 bitcoin was not up to $100 in 2012, so such an offer was not possible then.

Honestly, I know our names represent who we are, I would also be sorry if I lost the name that has stuck with me for half my life. But we need to think more, what are we living and striving for right now? If it's money, I don't need to think about it, but I will agree immediately because with 2000BTC we live another 100 years, and we will never be able to earn it. With that money, I can take care of my children and parents, such a sacrifice is worth it. I'm talking at current bitcoin prices, but if it were 12 years ago, it wouldn't be worth the trade-off.

Thats crazy! From where they get the ideas dude. Ask them if this option is still available and there will be thousands of candidates applying for this name change. But yes, 12 years ago it would be difficult for anyone to think about their name change to something very new at the time. Its nothing new, even Elon's son and daughters has weird names. I think putting name like bitcoin would be far more better. Anyway this wont be happening again. It was once for all event in the history of bitcoin. In the current timezone no one would ever give one satoshi free just like that. Wink

12 years ago, the price of Bitcoin was within approximately $10, of which 2000BTC would have given us about $20,000, which was a good sum of money for anyone living an average/poor life not to change his/her name if given such opportunity to so, but not me.
But if we are to talk of today 2023 that someone now walks up to me with 2000BTCs just to change my name to Bitcoin, I swear I will wholeheartedly grab such opportunity, because 2000BTCs correctly is equal to over $33.6million. Big enough to carter for all your needs to live anywhere around the world.

I've definitely heard of people changing their name to some nonsense crap for a couple hundred dollars. I even read about someone who tattoed a company name on their forehead for some small money too.

For some, that amount is more than a year salary but the fun fact is these guys who did it would earn more in a month if they actually had a small sense of wanting to work.

This is the kind of thing that makes some people think of Bitcoin as a fad Smiley

^That was possible back then if Laszlo spend his 10K BTC for a piece of pizza it was also possible for a man to change their name by offering 2k BTC which I think BTC at that is very cheap,
Delivering a couple of pizzas for roughly the dollar amount at the time is way different from changing one's name legally to Bitcoin and is much more commitment. The 2 pizzas for 10kBTC was only ridiculous in hindsight, but at the time, it was a reasonable amount for the effort made.

Would I change my name for 2000BTC today, most definitely who would not?

What was the value of 2000BTC ten years ago? 5000 dollars? Nope, I wouldn't change my name to Bitcoin for several thousand dollars.
I would do it for a million dollars. Grin Bitcoin was totally unpopular back in 2012 and only a bunch of geeks/nerds were actively using and mining BTC on their PCs back then. I think that the guy was joking about changing his name. Bitcoin went to more than 60K USD, but I've never seen any news about people changing their names to Bitcoin(or people naming their kids after Bitcoin). Naming your kid after a currency seems like the dumbest thing ever. I don't know about any people named Dollar or Euro. Grin

That's why 1 Bitcoin is not 1 Bitcoin, because price matters. This phrase is being thrown in bear market to cope with a price loss, but in reality everyone is looking at the price of Bitcoi against USD and base their decisions on that. No one is going to set price in BTC for their goods and services and ignore the change of Bitcoin's value. Even signature campaigns that for years maintained a flat rate had to eventually adjust it when the price became too high.

Thank you for speaking the truth, which I believe many people also understand, but they deliberately don't believe it to be true, bitcoin will never get rid of its dependence on fiat. The saying "1BTC is 1BTC" is just a saying to comfort us through this fierce bear season, that doesn't mean bitcoin doesn't need fiat or its value never will change. I find it funny when many people say 1BTC = 1BTC, but meanwhile they wait for bitcoin to drop in price to buy them instead of buying at high prices, and they say they don't care about the USD value of bitcoin.

If I'm getting you right, I think you are saying it wrongly. 1btc is 1btc, and nothing would change it except the people who wish to amend product prices to suit the current evaluation of 1btc. It's like saying; 100 dollars is no longer 100 dollars because it can't buy as many groceries as it did years back. These are just market changes that have no meaning to the status of the currency. If one bitcoin is worth 60k today, you won't expect 1btc not to purchase a product of 60k because 1btc was 16k yesterday. That is why product managers, including the signature managers would have to adjust the price according to the worth. Yet it doesn't change the fact that 1btc = 1btc. People only get confused about this, as everyone is here to make profits out of the volatile nature of bitcoin, which is pegged to the dollar for easy market evaluation. If bitcoin was not pegged to fiat, it would have been a hell of difficulty to make trades, as nobody would be able to understand the bear market and bull market, it would have no volatility in dollar price too, but on product price; in a world where only bitcoin is accepted. How then will people know the actual worth of bitcoin when they want to purchase it with cash? wouldn't it be difficult to determine using products as a determinant? So, Fiat, indeed, is crucial to the existence of bitcoin in determining the worth of 1btc to the market.

Haha, so much fun back in the time. I dont know, but it feels that eveyrone was enjoying the bitcoin in fun way possible back in the time. Now it is just about how much bitcoin costs, why the price is low and why the price is not moving?

Back then it was fun to accept the bitcoin because it was new, it was something special. It was also surprising sometimes,  it was secretive too. Bitcoin with its magic had many peeps to use it and trade it just for "fun".

This tweet, its interesting and has just added another funny incidence in my memory about the bitcoin.  Tongue

Yes, I would do it now but may be I would have thought hundred times doing it back then. lol

See I would be practical in saying that it was past thing and if the similar opportunity comes down now there would be long queue of people named Bitcoin  Grin as 2000 btc is worth million dollars today. But in the past there were many such instances like getting 5 btc for faucets or spending 10k for two pizzas but now getting some sats is difficult and I am still with my present name.

If you’re asking if I’m willing to undergo a change of name and then I’ll be given 2000 bitcoin, ask no further  Grin
I’ll probably undergo a change of name for that much. 2000 bitcoin is a lot! And I would imagine most people(if not all) would definitely undergo a change of name. I know I will.
I think it would take a lot less to get people to change their names. I know folks who would definitely be willing to undergo a change of name for 1btc.

No need to compare 2000BTC then and now. What was the dollar equivalent of in 2011?

Am I willing to change my name for 2000BTC? Well, I don't know. Who is willing to offer this amount? Smiley
Now it is a whole wealth, and I am sure that there would be many more applicants than 12 years ago. That's for sure.

This story is really funny which I didn't know about before.

Although a very curious case, I think I wouldn't be confortable in changing my name in any circumstances, doesn't matter the size of the offer. I believe our names are part of our personal history, identity and legacy. Names, like identities and personalities can't be purchased, they are inherited.

However, that is just me. I'm sure other people would see no issues in earning 2000 btcs so easily like that. That would be a life changing.

If we go back 12 years to do this, surely no one will do this because then this 2000btc, we only need to spend a small amount of money can buy it or can get it for free at the faucets.

But if we're talking about the present, I'll consider you a more odd case because 2000 BTC would be worth millions of dollars, and maybe we'll do our whole life and never get it. Changing your name won't be so important, life now matters how much money you have and how your life compares to others. This society is like that, if you are just an ordinary person, no one will care about your name.

The price of bitcoin 12 years ago was very low, so I would say no because most of us will decline as someone offers this but there is no value at all, it's like changing your name to old fiat, then I'll give you a million old fiat, which means you can't use it but in the long run it could go to collector items, same with bitcoin as the years pass, the value of bitcoin increasing. But if someone asks you to change your name right now with the current price, a lot of us will surely say yes.

I believe 12 years ago the price of Bitcoin was nothing as to changing ones name to Bitcoin for 2000btc a d that was just an illustration of the fun and mockery Bitcoin went through but currently now, 2000 Bitcoin is a whole lot of life changing money that will make an impact in  the life of any human no matter the amount of money you have.
I'm very certain that there are people who own more than this amount of Bitcoin personally all by themselves and are still hoping to acquire more.
Back to your question, I will definitely change my name for such amount or even just for 10btc because when converted into my local currency, it's a life changing money as well.

No valuable or reasonable amount of Bitcoin you will give to that will not attract me to change my name, since the payment rate is coming through Bitcoin and i will willingly change my name, because Bitcoin now is the order of the day and their is no average person on earth who doesn't know exactly that Bitcoin is like a hot cake before this it's depreciation in the market, so i believe that Bitcoin is something i believe that will definitely rise from the falling Bitcoin, the stipulated amount mentioned here is much for me to change my name.

12 years ago? Hell no. Now I would probably do it for 1/10th that much. It’s easy to look back and say what you would or would not have done, but the truth is that almost nobody would have done this 12 years ago. Bitcoin wasn’t considered valuable. Back then you could have made 2000 BTC telling jokes on this forum… It’s this sort of value transformation that makes Bitcoin an absolutely horrible method of valuation over time.
Makes sense. Some people would say they're down for it simply because it is the present. Before there were even people trading huge amount of Bitcoins for a pizza, that was how bad the situation of this industry way back years ago. So I guess I won't do such thing as well. It is just the fact that we saw already how high the market price could be at the present which is why mny of us are backtracking the possibility of investing before in relation with regrets. But in reality you'll never know unless you were on the situation. Perhaps something promising as well. The present's Bitcoin price vs the future. Since we know there is a tendency for its price to double or more in the future, why are we not buying huge amount of it (except for being incapable)? same thing was with before.

Almost everyone does it. Long back people hadn't realised the value of bitcoin, and now slowly we're into the realisation. Changing the name is no more a big thing, in my country people are much used to it. 2000BTC isn't a small number.

Once after the purchase of pizza with bitcoin, things started to change. This change have now made an evolution in the financial system. More to happen in the falling days as bitcoin is getting legalized in different countries around the world.

If you ask about that amount compared to today, probably people will say no but back then 12 years ago, people probably thought that the BTC price will not reach this at the same time. I will probably do the same as others like Laszlo and this man, it is awareness to other people that now BTC becomes successful.
