Density matters to many people.

Uhh no, shipping on time matters more than anything.

IN all this gentlemen, how much evidence do we have to make us believe any of the companies...Black Arrow or HashFast will deliver on schedule?   Bitmine.ch has shown a physical prototype and is currently taking orders for February - so I believe they will ship.  Their 2 TH/s device is a LOT more expensive than Black Arrow.  So if I thought BA were likely to ship on time, I'd go with theirs.  The key question is one of belief.

Hashfast's chip might do 500Ghash on "a single chip" but so far that chip uses just as much power per Ghash as KNC's Jupiters so it hardly  matters that it's on one chip.  Their "one chip" is really four dies anyway and given the current power draw the cooling is going to be a nightmare.  It is priced better per Ghash but it's also being delivered way later.

Huh  KnC's chip also contains multiple dies.  What is your point?   Huh

A chip consists of one or more dies on a substrate.  This has been explained, often with illustrations, on HashFast's, Cointerra's, and KnC's threads several times.

Density matters to many people.  Space in data centers is very expensive and customers are charged by the rack.

Being able to fit the same hash power into 1/3 the volume is a huge savings on colocation costs and a godsend for anyone with space constraints.

Cooling isn't "going to be a nightmare."  HashFast is using liquid cooling and their chip already runs underclocked at 500GH+.

VBS already tried spreading 'cooling nightmare' FUD months ago.  For some reason, he doesn't post much these days.

why is the next gen knc obsolete?

Because HashFast's first gen chip is already doing 500GH/sec, with room to overclock:

500GH/s on a single chip

This result was achieved during the bringup process of HashFast’s GN chip and module. The engineering team are progressively testing the system, and have not yet reached the full speeds the system was designed for. We expect to see better results over the next few days.
This milestone represents a breakthrough in Bitcoin mining technology and is several times faster than existing Bitcoin mining chips. We are starting volume production of mining systems now.

knc support is pretty good and they actually ship their units... which is a nice change from other manufacturers (a lot of them, anyway)

BA has not sold Batch 1 completely they told their whole salers etc. to pause, and are counting up/catching up on back orders. The site although poorly, has been updated with a new release date.

Sadly it does seem the sellers with Lot's of online time are the usual scammers.

You may still be able to grab a BA order, if your quick, maybe get in on the GB mining order they have with DZ.

But buying the second batch of any of these miner's isnt worth the money as the noobs without ac lue will drive the "instock" prices up to a poaint where you will NEVER regain.

IF you don't understand how this work's, I'd suggest you buy bTC and not bother investing 6-13 grand in a rig! Or do more research.

With the current rise in difficulty, I predict anything below 3TH/s isn't going to make any acceptable ROI period. Like takagari said, you need to get in early when things are dirt cheap. That's incredibly difficult though with all the scams and mouth breathing chip producers out there that can't live up to their production dates and have no comprehension of customer service. There's no way I'm investing in Black Arrow either until they prove they can live up to their estimates. So far, I'm not impressed with how well they keep customers updated, let alone their website (batch 2 is out, but they're still accepting batch 1 orders?). I find it incredibly hard to believe every single staff member they have is busy in chip development and is completely incapable of giving useful update information to customers.

Cointerra is taking order's for april ish now, as well as BA.... Your SOL on this generation, if you paid the asking rate's and didn't get until April your ROI will likely be so low you may as well just buy BTC.

You really need to be in on the ground floor of new HW launches to make anything. I'd sit and wait for round two (the next gen)
