I am afraid of height.... Sad so I don't want to live in Mars...
That does not make any sense at all?

LOL !

Just looked funny to me.

I think they meant that anything outer space is high above the surface of the earth.

They need to realize that when you are standing on Mars, the land area is so big that it feels and looks like you are on the ground. So, you do not have any heights.

Sure i would, when it's terraformed and a quite hospitable place for humans. So not right now.
However, I would be willing to spend a few years to VISIT Mars (you know travel and stuff takes quite some time), as long as I get back.

We could live inside Mars. After all, isn't the moon really like the "Death Star" in Star Wars? Look at the picture, below. Isn't that big crater really the main communications/power dish? So, if the moon is hollow, like the Death Star, and if Mars isn't already hollow, couldn't we hollow it out and live inside?

In Mars already live aliens. They won't be glad.  Wink Acctuly not becouse Mars is ugly planet and very dangerous.

That could be changed through terraforming. In theory, a new atmosphere could be created by slowly introducing plants and water to Mars.

It's a quite interesting possibility: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terraforming_of_Mars

apparently scientists thinks that terraforming mars will be impossible

even if it is possible, our great-great-great grandchildren will be dead by then... not to mention us  Tongue

The chances of reaching mars is 70%, would you still want to live there?

How would it be 70%?

NASA's mission are very precise, and the margin of error is much lower than 30%.

I think that going to mars is really a dumb idea, why would you go knowing that you going to die after few months Huh

Why would you die after a few months?

Because, Humans may only survive 68 days on Mars, Oxygen levels would start to deplete after about two months.

Do you have your head in the sand the last few years, or are you just gullible?  We've had people on the International Space Station for a lot longer than that.

That's is according to the news, even my self wonder about that.

ISS is resupplied every few months.  Don't know if we can resupply mars yet....

I heard there lots of methods to extract oxygen either via organic or artificial process.

If you are given a chance would you try to live there?

Why there are 24 people who are brave enough that join to mission - an irreversible move to Mars. what would you do there?

you are just trying end your life. Traveling to mars will take a minimum of 7 months. Travel only will get you sick.

SO, WOULD YOU?

I don't understand why people are so excited to go to Mars. There is no need to spend money at a planet where nothing relates to humans.

We can make improvements where we already live.

except that we won't be able to improve once most of Earth's resources deplete. but that won't happen soon, at least not in a hundred years

This is maybe true today but in 100 or 200 years I'm sure that science will solve all this issues and that we will have normal life on Mars, with normal atmosphere, climate, houses, schools, jobs etc. like other ''Earth''.

Yeah I'd do it. As long as I can get back someday (something to look forward to), have a woman, and maybe some sort of quantum entangled communication to reduce latency. Would hate that it takes ~5min to email back and forth, load pages, etc. I understand they are starting to get far in this field though. Heard they could entangle photons some ~25 miles apart. Ten years down the road, and they'll probably have it mastered for Mars.

According to the news, Humans may only survive 68 days on Mars.

I have no problem living in Mars if there is enough funding for the mission. 68 days limit on mars is an idiotic statement. Cosmonauts and Astronauts survived many months to using oxygen from algae and there are many ways to extract oxygen in Mars.

Using new profulsion technology you can travel to mars to within 15 to 30 days. Travel will not make you sick, it depends on the budget and technology being used.

is it ok with you that it is one way ticket?
oxygen from algae?algae from mars?

I'm ok with one way ticket as long everything I want is in there.

Yes algae produces more oxygen than other plants. They are stored in tanks in spaceships. I think we can mass produce this underground. Mars has water and everything needed to grow.

No way def not worth it. Your just a ginnea pig that will for sure die.

As your taking your last breaths on a red rock after a short time you will regret it as they will.

Not like they are taking hardened astronauts like most space missions.

If you dont die from mars or space, your gonna die from a Mars version of the Shining.

Either way its going to end bad and when you die the whole world is going to go, told you so.

Later this century it should be feasible to terraform Mars, using nanotechnology.

Then it would be a nice place to live  Smiley

I agree with that, That is not impossible. Look now how the technology and human evolved. from cave to buildings, from walking to car, airplane, boat. Someday mars will be nice to live in.

We already have technology to terraform Mars, What we don't have is will and money.

I read some articles last year according to an irreversible move to Mars that the participant have only one way ticket to the mars

That is true.  They are not bringing the technology to blast off the Mars surface.   It is a one way trip.

Oxygen levels would start to deplete after about two months

Ridiculous statement.  It would all depend on how much O2 and how many C02 scrubbers you bring with you.
