Worthwhile as space heaters if you already have them, if not get something newer and SAFER.

The space heater design sounds awesome... Something I might consider with one of these, I wouldn't run one at full clock but they might as well be used

I know this an old topic, but I cannot find much information on these. With free electricity  what is a good price to pay for 5 cubes and the controller board?

They are fire hazards and were built very badly. They will ruin your PSU. I literally had one go up in flames a few months back. Not safe for home use. If you decide you must have one, underclock it a ton to try to avoid the issues. KNC was the worst of the worst bitcoin miner manufacturers, total scam artists. They took people's money, gave them shit products very late and then used to the money to build their own mine with custom miners in Sweden. Crooks.

Just run them at 400MHz or less and they'll be fine and reliable. If you run them at 350 MHz you can even replace the 140mm fans with 1000 RPM silent models and use it to warm your room this winter.

Here is an image of my silent 500W space heater. I removed the fan grills and used 1000 RPM fans and clock them at 375 MHz, resulting in slightly over 1 TH/s. I used extra controllers from old KnC Jupiters so that I can spread them around the house in clusters of 2 cubes.

The BFL monarchs were good too, at least the ones I previously had.

Although the company in general is another story

Were good in my opinion .

Avalon 6 and 4.1 were good

And sp-tech sp20 was good.

The rocker box 110 watt  was decent

The only miners I trust are antminers. I wouldn't even bother looking at any knc products on eBay..  Why don't you get an S5?
To be fair there a couple of trustworthy miners, including Avalon, spondoolies and others.

I suppose I'm a little biased.  I never had problems with the antminers that I've purchased.  I almost bought a spondoolies sp20 last month but I'm just hesitant when it comes to trying products that I've never used before

ID say if it's a full cube like he says wouldn't it run at 1950 W  it shows in the spec he does  Processing Speed (GH/s):3300

He is selling one fully functional cube (20% of a Neptune), not a full Neptune.

not that ill buy it nice price for buyout, makes me wonder why so low and does it work . he has a good sell history on Ebay .

was temped till saw i need a controller which might be another 300.
I would be more concerned about this:

"The power socket is darkened, the previous owner used incorrect PSU I believe. It is fully functional, just a cosmetic blemish."

I saw that to but what stopped me was the price everything else i would need just to get it to run and then hope that it ran, i went by his ebay profile i would hope hes is as good as it appear. but I'm not buying it after i saw the price of one controller . I d be better off just buying another S5 and save some change. and this question the answer didn't seem right .

Q: How much power does this take?
A: They consume about 300W. Thank you for your interest in my auction!

Out of morbid curiosity, how well do Neptunes downclock towards the 1100W range ? Is it possible, and if so, what sort of hash-rate might I be looking at ?

Toying with the idea of picking one of these up on EBay while pricing is in the toilet.

Based on some of the comments here, some folks might consider $700 too much!!!

for a free miner you cant complain but for a paid one its different...
I can currently trust spondoolies and bitmain
Bitmain I runed S1 and S3 for months never gave me a problem
Spondoolies I run for months SP-10 and SP-30 without problems
only problem is electricity that its paid for ouch!!!!

Looks like it's mostly the new Bonus Miners selling for that price. They intentionally come without thermal pads on the VRMs, plus a 2pin fan jammed onto the 4pin header. So the VRMs cook nicely between 95-110C in a cool environment. Then maybe you'll get "lucky" and that rigged fan connector will pop off unexpectedly and the thing will really burn up. I was posting updates daily about it on the forum, which is now mysteriously offline, lol.

They even cheaped out on the paint job. It used to be silver painted with the black logo, now it's just bare metal with the black logo. The paint was cheap before anyways, even some goo gone would take it off.

So what is the difference between the Neptunes and the Jupiters.

I got a few Jupiters and they seem rock-solid.

Must be the power draw of the units
each Jupiter module will suck less than 200w when the Neptune will 340-350 depending on the setting.
but the cables remain the same...

one of this toys should come included in that price:

that 1 6pin sucking 400w is plain stupid

I would likely buy one if

1) did not afraid the fire
2) if KNC had customer support
3) if there was a guarantee on the units sold
4) if I had arctic cooling
5) if I had the psus to power them now so did not have to purchase them now
6) if I could use my existing controller from a JUpiter to run on Neptune
(I think this can be done but have not tried it)

KNC stopped selling miners to retail so we are talking about a non existing company

As this has to be said my KNC November Jupiter that was powered on July 2014 runs non stop
until I sell it ( its for sale on ebay.co.uk currently) and never gave me any troubles.

KNC has screwed their customers over and their products by todays standard are energy hogs so that would explain why they are really cheap now

...They will destroy your power supplies, so be prepared to replace the power supply every 2-3 months...

Were you using 120v or 240v to power them?

Also didn't their customer support basically disappear?

They laid them off when they realized anyone with half a brain had already lawyer-ed up. No point of trying to pretend to be caring when 90% of the people you sold products to have retained a lawyer.

I had to send five cubes back as RMAs. None returned. Not even an e-mail to say "haha we're keeping the Neptunes". I should have taken a shit in that box instead.

I have lots of experiences with KNC Neptunes.

They're poorly designed pieces of shit. While I've never had one set fire, don't bother getting one unless you have access to dirt cheap power supplies. They will destroy your power supplies, so be prepared to replace the power supply every 2-3 months.

Also, they use this stupid "cube" design which looks like something I built in grade 8 shop class and is awful to cool. You will not be able to use these in a data centre properly.

Total crap. Garbage. I hope KNC's mine burns down. They've stolen millions peddling shit.

What a coincidence, my plumber friend was over today and was telling me all about his experiences getting sewer water in his mouth while working on plumbing.  I couldn't help but draw a parallel with how I feel towards KNC and their products.

Lie down. Have a cookie
For sure one can still make some money with these - no?
These were $10,000 when new.  Now you can 'Buy it Now' for <$700!!!  WTF?
Because a Neptune wil only ROI less than 2btc in its lifetime, and this is with $ .10 electrcity.
At $ .17 electricity the Neptune will mine .6 btc lifetime.
You do the math.
Sooo it is better to buy 3 btc for $800 than buy that machine to mine it.

Also doesn't KnC have a rep for being a fire starter?

Why are Neptunes so cheap on EBay?  I heard they work fine and are pretty good machines.  Is it because the 'bonus' miner is now coming out?  For sure one can still make some money with these - no?
