Duckduckgo is bing, startpage is Google.
Bing is horrible (use startpage.com instead of duckduckgo.com).
First time I heard of startpage, I will give it a try. Thanks for that.
Yeah, tor used to use it and I'm not sure why they stopped, maybe google's redirection links did something (yes they did they can still log you from that search engine now apparently, much like they can normally) - I don't know why their developers didn't fix that it wouldn't be too difficult.

If Google didn't exist but opened up their algorithms then I'd be alright with that. Even just granting access to the database as the algorithm is quite easy to make with the data.
I don't think it's ever gonna happen. They will be happy to bury the secret rather than passing it to a community. It's a billion dollar secret if not very close to trillion, it's just my speculation.
You're probably right there, they'd have to censor a lot of the db as well.

Theymos probably gets about 0.5BTC/week on advertising.

Not that bad however I thought It would be more! The forum is lacking monetisation. With proper monetisation, theymos can make this forum a money making machine without even compromising anything else like annoying the members. i.e: Facebook annoys the users with their news feed ads or ad in the middle of a video clip.
There have been people that came up with ideas such as making a fee for signature campaigns or even some sort of tax (if 1% was charged then people wouldn't miss much and the forum could make something) - the community might be able to patrol it also as the blockchain is public.

Maybe.
And yeah but the systems shouldn't take 4 years to make with such a high price tag as the one that they've been given. Microsoft has churned out crappy operating systems at a much faster rate Grin.

I think pricing Google.com at $2.5million is an underestimate, just an example though...
I understand that part  Smiley
You can not just put a price tag to the domain that is dominating the entire internet.

Google.com might be worth more than $2,725,000 maybe this domain would also be wroth a few million.
Think about a world without Google. To me it's scary in both way. With and without it.

With:
The entire search function, digital advertising are highly depending on google meaning they are the big giant. Having so much power to one hand is dangerous. People may say Facebook is a threat for them but IMHO Facebook is more of social experience, google is everything.

Without:
The entire internet will wonder where to look for something. There are yahoo, bing, duckduckgo but how many people use them is a big question to me.

Ok, my point is that are we really big like google? My guess is not even near yet.

Theymos probably gets about 0.5BTC/week on advertising. That's about $4000. $4000x52 is $208000 manually or $2.08 million in 10 years. OK I know he's really proactive and a lot goes back to the site, but if someone wasn't theres already a goof community base so it would still be worth more than $2.5 million (althoygh I kinda like theymos so hopefully he doesn't think of selling for a while - and it's Sirius who owns the domain actually I think).

It was hoped by theymos that the new forum software be made open source and availabe for everyone to use although I think they're still trying to go through the bugs in the forum software.
Learning about this huge amount of money already spent on a project, the only one thing I can hope is the good wishes. I hope the end product will be satisfactory for the entire community.

Yeah, a huge amount was spent on the new forum software. I assume they're still talking to theymos and cyrus quite a lot but other than that...
One must admit that, this was really overpriced. I never heard about any website that could cost around $2,725,000 (consider this was the $$ value back then). How many working hours we are talking about to complete even the most complex web application ever?

Let's say 10,000 hours in that case if you pay $25/hr then it's $250,000. Question is, do we really think creating a forum software really needs 10,000 working hours?

I'm not entirely sure what is going on with that software, however, there is a team of people working on it.

Yes, some other members also suggested me to buy one. Thing is, I actually do not know how long I will stay on this forum. I am not a community person, I keep myself busy with my own stuffs. I heard about this forum long ago but never actually visited here. Other day while I was doing something, I discovered that this forum is going to create a newer version which is costing them 5000 BTC!!! So I could not resist to register to see what exactly you guys have in here. Few stuffs so far I have picked...
- Those 5000 BTC contract was long ago when BTC price was not that much, so it's not like how it sounds  Grin
- This forum is kind of money making platform for some people who think these tokens will make them rich (sorry people you are dreaming)
- There are some members who are highly knowledgeable and doing real contributions for Bitcoin Network and the community.
- There are people who are very polite and friendly. They are willing to help others to resolve their issues.

So, thumbs up to you guys.

5000BTC was still worth a lot back then... The new forum seems slow to be made and the majority are now questioning whether it will get released at all as it's taken so long for them to program.

I'm glad you have something against altcoins, I'm not sure I have as much hatred for Bitcoin Cash as other altcoins like Ethereum (can't stand ethereum!) but... The only thing altcoins are good for is trading to increase your Bitcoin balance Smiley.

Most of us had the same restrictions you have. Those restrictions were here when I was a newbie, though they didn't work as well so you could trick the system back then to post links that are classed as suspicious.

I can not disagree with you.

Funny thing is after the fork or around the time of the fork they rebranded (reorganised) the whole site with information for Bitcoin Cash. It's actually confusing now. The domain completely means it's a website for Bitcoin but once you visit the website you will see everything about Bitcoin Cash. Ethically this is not right. If you are to promote Bitcoin Cash then have the domain BitcoinCash.com and do your shits there.

These guys were using brand image of Bitcoin to buildup their own altcoin (Bitcoin Cash). They are still using the brand image of Bitcoin and promoting their altcoin, sadly there are not much noise about it. Newcomers in the cryptospace can easily get confused and fall for Bitcoin Cash when their main goal was to buy Bitcoin.

@LoyceV
Thank you for the wonderful explanation.

Speaking of parsing out malicious/suspicious links, I feel like www.bitcoin.com should be parsed by default for all users. To me, that site is more malicious than any ponzi/hyip/doubler just sayin'

I know that the response is going to be along the lines of not wanting to censor anything here, or that if that link is parsed out, we lose the decentralized nature of these forums, but in all seriousness, fuck those bcash guys. The worst thing that's happened to Bitcoin.

There are quite a few restrictions imposed on newbies.
You have to remember that it's not personal and we were all newbies once.

You can now (more recently) buy a copper membership if you want to be able to post images and have a few additions to your signature rights that will come with a member memebership (so you only have to wait about 60 days otherwise assuming you get the 10 merits in that time).
(I bought a copper membership for the sake of having one and to test the system - it only costs ~0.002BTC so if you have enough then it might be worth it - if you search in meta for it then you can find all the perks it has (along with its limitations))

Unfortunately, it's a necessity. This forum gives users more freedom than any other forum I know, but it was heavily abused. By restricting Newbies, spammers and scammers can't just create an unlimited number of accounts. They still spam quite a lot though, but it helps.
Judging by your post history, you're not the kind of user for which the restrictions were implemented. You'll just have to deal with it a bit longer.

This topic is all about [Suspicous Link Removed] for blockchian domain which has .com TLD. I was using the blog url to give the reference of my  claim that they had this announcement, they are going to change the domain TLD from .into to .com

Lastly, if you see the blog url then you will see it's basically a subdomain for the domain blockchain with .com TLD

Test to see if it shows [Suspicous Link Removed] for me.

Just to clarify, is this thread about the [Suspicous Link Removed] comment or about your blog?
Can you make two topics, one about the blog and one about the suspicious link as this is reallly hard to follow.

As I understand, the [suspicious link removed] comment happens fairly randomly. Sometimes the link stays, sometimes it goes. blockchain.com may get marked as a suspicious link as much as blockchain.info may get marked as suspicious.

Other day, I was working on my video tutorial topic: Idea: Courses [Video Tutorial 1.1.1 - Getting Started with Bitcoin Wallet]

Everything was just fine but after posting the contents I found out the URL for .com was replaced by [Suspicious link removed]. Ref: below bold text...

05' 27": Let's check it on www.blockchain.com (previously www.blockchain.info)
I actually figured out how to trick the system, although the link will not be a clickable link.

Anyway after doing some research I found out that the system actually replace any link which could be a phishing link with the text [Suspicious link removed]. I assume on the forum database there is a table which has the list of phishing addresses and once it matches with any of them then it removes the risky website url with [Suspicious link removed] text.

This is a very good step for the admin, this will reduce information hacking from the members. However, in this case I would say the admin got it wrong. Perhaps they have missed the announcement.

www.blockchain.com is actually the former www.blockchain.info. They have rebranded the domain from .info to .com. They announced the news on June 22, 2018 on their blog. In fact there were a small notice area on the top of the www.blockchain.info website that they are going to change the domain TLD soon.
