The advantages that I know of:
- It has an awesome image stabilization (even works really well at 50x or 100x zoom). The NEX-6 doesn't have stabilization.
- It has 0 ms shutter lag, compared to the NEX-6's 257 ms lag.
- Better price.
- More megapixels (20.4 compared to 16.1).
I am by no means a great photographer but here is an example I took at the zoo (so you can see the picture quality of the HX-300). This pic was take at 50x zoom:

^ Thanks for the input, but that camera might look like it's a bit bulky. I already have a decent point-and-shoot camera, now I'm looking for something with similar size, but with better image quality. I THINK that camera you linked does not have image quality as great as the NEX-6. It looks like the zoom is a very strong point, but I don't need something with that much magnification. I'd value image quality over magnification.

The 50x optical zoom is awesome and it takes amazing pictures. It has loads of settings and filter option (if you're really into it), but it also has an intelligent auto-function where it adjusts all the settings itself to optimize the picture you're about to take.
