I've got a used mobo+cpu combo that would more than suit your needs, has room for 2 video cards (1x 16x pcie & 1x 1x pcie, you'd need an extender(.

Or a better mobo with 4 total pcie card slots, 2x 16x and 2x 1x.

EDIT: I've also got two PSUs you may want, and a small SSD and some sata hard drives. And DVD drives.

PSUs are 750w corsair and 430w rosewill, both only with light use. asking 1.5 btc for the 430w and 4 btc for the corsair.

SSD is 32gig Patriot. Asking 3 btc shipped.

hard drives are all laptop sized, 80gig, 160 gig and another 160 gig. Make offers on them, maybe 1btc for the 80, 2 btc for the 160 gigs (each)?

Well, for most mh/s v.s. $ the 5830 wins hands down. ( 280-300mh/s)

the real question is to get how many.

the general rule of thumb is that 2gb of RAM, a Sampron 140 CPU is standard business due to the seer price/clock speed ratio it has.
since this is NOT a dedicated mining machine you are welcome to bump it up the ram a bit, but the amd S140 OCs very well and should not be a problem for the light usage you listed.

The real question when comes down to building a Rig is 2x 5830s or 3+ 5830s.
each 5830 uses about 180W of power under full load, but as PSU price doesn't scale as well as slots, the choice is up to you.

Totaling ~450-500 bucks(shipping included etc), estimated mh/s 560(low), 600(high).

For the 3-4 5830 set up depends how many 5830 you end up putting in your board.
for 4x I recommand AT LEAST 1kw PSU.

4x 5830 will set you back around ~$800 which is your budget

this of course doesn't include things like monitor, keyboard/mouse, dvd drive to install OS, or HDD.

I highly recommand Linux due to the seer Mh/s Hashkill(a linux only miner) produces. but I won't go into detail unless you ask me bit more specific questions.

That would be awesome. I will definitely donate for your time. I'm looking to spend somewhere in the range of $600-$800. The computer can be fairly bare bones, but I would like it to have an OS and some functionality. It'll be in a second location from my home where I don't have to pay for power and I'd like to use the computer for web browsing, word processing, and light usage other than solely mining. Second hand parts are fine, assuming I can get better value out of the system by going that route.
