hosting can never be as good as owning your own, the hosting people need eat also. business electric is 11p a unit, better yet is a diesel generator it will get it down to a penny a unit or less.

If you do the sums its a no brainer to send miners abroad (when subject to vat).

Business electric is around 11p + VAT + CCL those add quite a bit. Hosters usually have MUCH cheaper electric that offsets the hosting cost.

Let's use an S3 as an example over 6 months

UK
Miner £180.00
Import Duty £36.00
Electric (182 days at £1.30)  = £236.60

Total £452.60

USA
Miner $295.00
Import Duty $0.00
Hosting (6 months at $75) = $450

Total $745.00 = £450.00

So there is not a lot in it, but if you run a few machines you have to start thinking about cooling, and office space, and rent and rates etc etc none of which are a factor when hosting.

The diesel generator sounds like fun though Smiley

+1  though were missing something important, Most of us like to hash with more units than a residential home can power!
anything more than 3-4 dragons or S2's and your in trouble, anyone here like spending $$$ upgrading their power lines?

I thought so... The average of 2013 was 17.2 pence, which is around 0.26$... Damn UK is expensive... hard to ROI mining in UK. I think people will soon change to hosted mining instead of home mining. At least in UK.

Thats exactly what I have done, The offset of import duties alone goes towards hosting costs  Grin

Did you have any luck on this?

Without sounding like I am flaming, I really would try and afford 2 direct from Bitmain, Problem is, I have a B6 S3's I paid 0.64 and paid import duties being also in the UK (£55 per unit  Shocked ), I could not sell for less than 0.75 a unit, But this might not make its break even for you.

Anyone who has them in hand now could not sell them for the same as direct (thank you customs)

Let us know if you got a deal, It would be nice to see someone helping you out.

Nothing offered as of yet.

I was tempted to grab 2x S3's from bitmain, but as you have pointed out our wonderful HMRC wants £55 per unit.

I have had a look on eBay and they are going for £330 + which makes ROI not just difficult but almost impossible.

So I'm patiently sat here waiting for an offer lol

Cheers
Mark

£330 is well over a coin in BTC relationship, My offer of one for 0.75 is the best I can do if you just want one fast, (as I am in the UK I can post tomorrow) I will even post for 0.05 thats only £10 it will cost £20 so I will pay half shipping, so 0.8 for one unit is still cheeper than feebay.

I know it's not the best offer, But it's better than no offer  Grin

Yes trust is indeed the main factor here. There is a thread that discuss and comments on most hosting companies: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/hw-hosting-directory-reputation-622998

GekkoScience is quite reputable from the thread. I have chosen centerus for hosting my B8 miners... Had chats with Carlos, president of centerus, and everything went well so far.

Why not try hosting your future s3 in US or somewhere outside EU when customs are not greedy Smiley Im in the UK as well and I hate the HMRC for what they did to me with the S1 (£30.33 Shocked )

Indeed another thing I have thought about, the issue I have with this way around it is the need for trust, as I know of no one in the US and have had no dealings there.
