This is a pretty accurate graph on how the performances vary per card. So its looks like the best deal on these GPUs is to buy used 280X, (or 7970 almost the same) rather then spend money on the new 380X. Even an used R9 290 is not worth the 50% price premium since its only slightly more faster than a 280X.

not to be picky, but there are no 280X or r9 390 (just 390X) on this graph.

its there, check again

thanks for posting graph with R9 390 and , I missed the R9 280X which was there, sorry.

GPU Gurus: can anybody answer whether it is easy to mix and match cards from different manufacturers and speed on the same rig or it is better to go with one type?
I am talking only about AMD cards. Say, 280X, 7950, 380, 390 on the same rig? Or MSI and Gigabyte of the same category (7950, for example).

It is easy to mix and match. Doesn't matter the brand as long as its AMD. Mixing NVIDIA and AMD on same board is a no go and they're a few guides to get both to run on same MB but is difficult

Here' another one with the 390, which is around 5% different then the 390X, no idea why they decided to make both and not just one since they are almost the same.

I was actually looking at 7990 for fun. 400$ for 50MH/s sounded like fun. The only problem i have right now is i have BTC, not fiat, so i cannot bid on Ebay. =/

Those cards are too overpriced, everybody has a $700-$1000 cad buy it now price on those. The only biddable on is at almost $500 CAD.

There's one at 467$ BIN shipped. It would be an alternative to buying retail 380x.

Only advice I can give you is NEVER to buy the Sapphire R9 280X Dual-X.

The VRMs are weak and start fires. And Sapphire warranty is not transferrable and only 2 years while most are 3. So most likely the one you buy won't have any warranty on it anyways.

How many GPUs are you planning on buying in total.

I currently got 10 and want to expand but don't want to get burnt how I got burnt 2 years ago with the whole Litecoin/Dogecoin GPU rigs. Where it was profitable for 1 month and then went downhill.

Everyone throwing themselves at gpus for ethereum are going to get burned like in 2013/2014 with litecoin. I suggest using what you have, and not buying into more gpus unless the price is incredibly good. But everyone knows how profitable gpu mining is right now, so there are no good deals.

i think/hope that you will be able to sell decent cards  to "gaming" people later on, but don't hold my breath.

Yes GPU's dont lose as much values. I've had these 280x for a long time now and i've sold some at some point and now i can buy them back around the same price i sold them.

I dont know, maybe 6 per months until it not longer feels right.

It should be okay. The resell value of a GPU does not drop nearly as much as ASIC's.

Alright so, i'm now looking for more GPUs.

Things like 7950, 7970, 280x, 290, 290x, 380x, 390, 390x.

Anything in Canada?
If not i'd be willing to discuss if you are in the US or can ship rather fast internationally if the price don't add up too much.

Replies here or PMs welcome.

can you mix and match them in one rig easily or better to be of the same sort in one rig?

Edit: if someone could provide a source link, i would be thankful
I am getting one used msi HD 7950 today, also bought one msi R9 380 and one msi R9 390-this is probably all for me, unless I get greedy  Grin.
Not sure if i want to put them all in a rig or try one in PC first. Will do it in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS anyway.

sidenote; amazon/ebay are truly ripping people off with motherboard prices.
i saw one from asrock that came highly rec and used to be $70, now is selling for $139.99.
all better cards are being constantly sold off.
