Definitely weird, thanks for the backstory! Now I wonder, how would they know the difference if you removed all trace of residue? They are no different otherwise, correct?

Correct... unless there was a way to test for chemicals that were used to remove the sticky.. like acetone, etc
All though... you could probably just wash the coin off in the sink with soap and water afterwards and it would look exactly the same as a blank.....
See... now this thing lends itself to the validity of the whole grading process.
Would be nice to have a secondary or alternative grading company / service....
I know you can get some grading services to do "cross-over" grades and would be interesting to see what others like PCGS, CGS, etc would put on something like this
