If you see a bottle of Sangsters Jamaican Rum Cream. For some reason you can't get it here in the states.

Cuban rum? that's tempting.

would have to check into import laws (guessing the answer to that is obvious though)
Technically its not legal for US citizens to spend any money in Cuba or on Cuban goods. Usually I stick the bottle upside down in a tequila bottle tin in case Customs asks me to open it. Although, there have been a couple times where they straight-up took the bottle out, examined it and let me go. My guess is they were just being cool and realizing I wasn't committing treason bringing a couple bottles back. By the case probably wouldn't fly, though.

I'll bite - what kind of liquor do they have down there that would be considered illegal here?
I haven't encountered anything homemade. What I was referring to (and what I usually pick up) is Cuban rum. Havana Club. We [obviously] can't buy goods from Cuba in the states, but you can in Mexico. Also, there's all different types of tequila. They always want you to sample it and will literally keep pouring you shots til you're wasted (trying to make you buy-good strategy). There's a really good Almond Tequila I tried once, forgot the name. What I'm going to do is take a bunch of pictures for next time.

Home-made. They have it here, too, but it's easier to find it there. Don't know what the appeal would be, though. Cheaper?

Even more so than liquor illegal in the states, weapons, prescription drugs, etc, the food is my favorite part. Usually its roasted corn w/lime and salt followed by 3 carnitas tacos (the entire pork body rotates and slow-cooks all day) and some pistachio helado.

I have to second that. I've only been to Mexico once. Had a burrito in Tijuanna and it was both bigger and tastier than any I've ever had in the States. And I live in San Antonio, so it's not like there's a shortage of quality Mexican food here.

We have some local Mexican markets called the "Culebra Meat Market". The Mexican ice pops are really good, namely frozen mango and chilli powder.
