I looked into doing the gold extraction myself...BUT,if you screw just one step, all that gold can be lost.  Cry

So I just sell my scrap & leave the nasty chemicals & risk to others Wink

RAMS:

For DDR2 RAM, I have the following:
Transcend 1GB DIMM (low profile) ram
Kingston 1GB ram
Samsung 1 GB ram
ProMos Technologies 512MB
Hynix 512MB

And a few other different brands lying around. Its a very diverse stash of old computer gear Smiley

There is pretty much no gold in modern (Pentium 4 and up) cpu's.

Some of those cpu's and ram modules should still have some value just from their utility, even bent pins can be straightened easily with an exacto knife, but no one is going to bid a fair price if we have to guess whats in that lot.

Dealing with toxic oxides is not a job that can be done from every person at least without protection either breathing them or possible skin contact may cause injuries so this is not a job for the average person to just create aqua regia and bath the processors...
also the smell is terrible and has to be done outdoors or inside with proper ventilation.
Disposing thes acids is also a matter.
results are also not clear as with aqua regia disposing gold you can dispose also other metals that will make your crama not excactly gold...but this is for another forum discussion
sell them on ebay  it will be better

SO not just for everybody...

Sell this stuff on ebay!!!  I make decent cash doing the same  Wink

Look for Scrap CPU,RAM,MOBO.You just need a scale to give correct weight.

HDD's too, just take em apart, boards & disc's are good for scrap & CD/DVD roms, the boards in em are good for scrap  Wink

Thanks for the advice Smiley

A lot of people scrap these old RAMs/CPUs and use a chemical process to extract gold and other precious metals plated onto the pins.

Regarding the bent pins, only a couple of CPUs have bent pins.

good little starting point to gold recovery off electronic waist/scrap: http://goldrefiningforum.com/

i am one of them people who dumps them things in Acid Peroxide baths for a week and skim off the gold flakes, after that, i dump it all into Aqua Regia, then drops it to gold dust, ready to be melted or reprocessed.

But, ATM, i have 55 Litre tub full of motherboards/ram sticks/cpus that im slowly depopulating and sorting into different parts.
Ceramic capacitors in one pile (Tantalum), pins and connectors ready for de-plating in another pile, PCB fingers and ceramic CPUs for AP bath..

If you want realistic offers then spend 30-60minutes and inventory the items.

Also, what the hell did you do to those cpu pins ? I see alot of those chips with pins bent as if it were manhandled.

Hello BitCoinTalk,

I'm interested in selling bulk CPUs and RAMs to any collector for use, collection, or recovery of precious metals. Most of these have been pulled from working computers, however due to handling, some of these components may not work.

In this batch there is Pentium 4/Core 2 Duo CPUs, DDR1 and DDR2 RAM of various manufacturers, and random 250MB/500MB/1GB/2GB capacities.

Please make an offer, as I'm unsure as to how much I should sell this for.

I have included a few photos of my batch. It weighs a couple of pounds.

Taking offers.
