I might have a seller willing to let one of these go (ungraded) for 7.5BTC. Figured I'd post and see if there's any interest. The seller will be including some pretty cool provenance with it as well. Message me for more info and hopefully pictures in a day or so.  Smiley

I am fairly certain I can get two Void Coins for any individuals interested. I have spent approximately 60-70 hours researching, cold calling, and emailing anyone that might possibly have any relation to these rare coins and have only been able to find three total. One I am keeping for myself. I am fairly confident that these are the only two that will be available in the foreseeable future judging by how difficult they have been to track down and I can't imagine another avenue anyone could try that I have not to find these.

The price for one is 10BTC, reservations are on a first come first serve basis. Please PM me if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks  Smiley

I admire your enthusiasm for Casascius.
True collector right there!

Haha thanks Took, this has definitely turned out to be a more involved project than I expected it to be!  Grin

And how many were just thrown in the trash or given to a person's kid as a "novelty"??

I bet most of them, especially if given to a reporter who didn't have much interest in Bitcoin.

Obviously Mike will have to confirm as we will never know for sure without his input but I have been knocking down doors left and right for over two weeks and found less than a handful.

My opinion is that there were less than 15-20 (most likely closer to 10 but I am leaving a margin of error) ever made and that the ones actually kept and taken care of are well within the lower single digits.

I would pay 3B but I would value it around 4-6B.   It really depends how many were made or still exist.  Personally the .5B Brass is my least favorite Cas coin, so from that aesthetic standpoint, it doesn't appeal to me like a 1B Silver or similar Cas coin would.

What happened to Eod's VOID coin offer...... GONE!!!

Too many variables still up in the air. My post was a little premature.  Wink

Perhaps a general question for the time being: What is everyone's opinion on what these are worth?

I would have guessed lower than minerjones, but it is hard to say as I have never seen one for sale.

Did we find out how many void coins were produced?

I emailed Mike and he hasn't replied. I'm not the only one waiting on a reply for something. His focus is elsewhere these days it seems

I was wondering if some of Mikes 2FA prototypes silver coins was ever released into the wild

Oh my. Think I'm in love

The only coin that can't be tracked using the various Casascius coin tracking sites! A complete enigma...anyone think we'll see one of these in a museum somewhere in 20 years or so?
I would love to add one of them to my collection. That's for sure. Grin

Any luck hunting down a roll of these void coins?

On a serious note, I find it interesting to hear if anybody was able to find some, there must be some out there, all forgotten (just like my precious).

Have you got one of these Took?

Yeah its right next to my Casascius 1000 BTC gold coin and 500 BTC bar, my Unicorn is guarding them so they should be safe  Grin

Surprised noone else has stepped up saying they have one of these bad boys - whether for sale or not. Makes me think more rare than I first thought, or in the hands of people who may not 'really' know what they have, and who arent active 'coiners'. The distribution channels for these were not the normal for cas coins - generally meet in person, hand to hand exchange, potentially people from mainstream media - whether financial, technology, or just general news. I would love a link to any news articles / paper based media where these coins were pictured as part of the story, would add nice provenance to the coin. If anyone has one, I would appreciate it.

If they were mostly given away to media, I am sure they probably opened them up to see how they worked before throwing them away.

You're probably right or they're sitting at the back of a drawer or in a box in the attic and forgotten about. It wouldn't surprise me if there were very few in hand with someone that frequents here or has any interest in crypto.

I think you've got yourself a little gem there monkeynuts Cool.

I am surprised how few knew about these coins! IIRC there are also some ones that have the red dot on them.

There are the blank 100 BTC bars ? The 8 that are none 2FA have a red dot on them.

Like this one
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291419942852

(the 4 standard 100 blanks dont have the red dot, neither does the single never funded 1000 btc bar)

Given that these are so unknown, surprisingly even to the most avid of collectors, it's a keeper. Everything does have a price. Everyone will crack eventually. Even me.  Wink

My hope is that the journalists or photographers that were given these, valued them. It's quite possible that they wouldn't appreciate what they have. I hope they were not treated as normal blank or redeemed coins.

Knowing how many were done would be nice. But with no funding, and no uberbills, it's gonna be impossible to know how many survive from them.

Wow that's one hell of a coin thanks again for sharing Cool.

Dont worry I'd have to re-mortgage to afford that Cheesy.

What would you guess it is valued at? Coins like that are sort of tough to price market wise. I would pay a few BTC for one, but not sure how high I would go.

You're right, coins like that are very tough to put a price on. Honestly it's what the individual is willing to sell it for. There's no multiplier or previous sale to really go off of. What I would be willing to pay is slightly higher than a few BTC depending on condition. They're unique and a good addition to any collection in my opinion.

I agree they are tough to price. Does anyone know how many there are?

I suppose unless one was put up for auction or for sale we'll never really know. I would go along with previous suggestions of a few BTC but again its what someones prepared to sell or buy for really.

I really doubt that Monkey would sell a coin like that off, I know I would keep that. Finding such a coin will be pretty hard to do as the people that have them are probably serious collectors.

I wouldn't sell it either unless I really needed the money and / or the offer was too good to refuse.

Thanks for the info monkeynuts, I'd never heard of a void / press coin before or seen one.

Is that your coin?

Yep it's mine. Hands off !  Smiley

Dont worry I'd have to re-mortgage to afford that Cheesy.

I didn't know these existed either.  Seems I can never collect them all!

Yeah, Monkeynuts was kind enough to inform me of their existence a few days ago and now I've been obsessing over them. Another coin I have to have added to the list...  Cry

Damn, that looks very cool and is definitely the first of its kind that I have seen! Agreed, thanks for the info. monkeynuts!

I imagine these would be the second-rarest Casascius coins after the 1,000BTC 1 oz. Gold coins? If it is true that only a small handful were produced. Perhaps Mike could pop in here and provide some clarification?

Void coins different and rarer than the demo coins - look at this ANACS image. Holograms are still in tact.

These were coins made for interviews Mike did. These surface very very rarely.... Mintage I really dont know. But its low. I dont know whether that means 1's or 10's. But I have never seen anything stated. I have only ever seen 2 for sale. Missed the first, and traded for the second one

Mike mentioned them on his Wordpress

https://casascius.wordpress.com/2013/05/19/casascius-coin-production-featured-in-the-rise-and-rise-of-bitcoin/
No one has asked this yet, but I am also seen “making” some coins. As my security policy totally prohibits creating real coins on camera, these coins do not contain real private keys – instead the paper shows the word “VOID” in bold, very clearly, through the window. I call them “voidcoins” or “presscoins”, as I allow the photographer to keep one or two of the completed ones if they wish. All such coins are 0.5 BTC denomination.
