I actually got a Federal warning for shipping snails across state lines because I started my company when the FEDS turned off their website, but the Post Office says that you can ship snails.

If the company fucks up again I could face a $6.5 million dollar fine.

They tried to put my little snail business out of business, so we altered the business plan through the regulations.  Long run them stomping on the escargot industry in the USA will be wonderful for me... just snail business is slow business. Smiley

Hopefully one day you guys will be able to ship anonymously so people will be able to have international revenge on anyone worldwide.  That is, if the snails could ever make it past the bureaucracy

I would just hate to have to live my life looking over my shoulder due to fucking snails!! This was just a hobby that I started and it kinda started to do its own thing.

We are actually working on trying to have Helix Aspersa deregulated.

There is a really solid chance of that happening in the near future (at least for a handful of states.)

We intend on shipping international with the same business plan as we imply in the states.  We only ship from within the county that the order is place.

Write your state rep Wink! (fml I can't believe my life has boiled down to this Cheesy haha joking of course! I love my stupid snail business!)

(...) harvesting slime, shells for all types of things

Harvesting snail slime? LOL...

What can you do with slime? I'm just curious as I never imagined this.

And the shells? What are the uses of shells?

What is more profitable? The food part?

Snail slime is really good for tightening skin!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGeEEhCpl5s

The shells are a excellent source of calcium as I recall.

Most profitable part of the market I've seen thus far is the breeders and the pet markets.  My snails currently aren't priced for the food market.  I could be though... just seems like a lot of leg work for a 1 man band.  Having fun with my stupid little snail business is first and for most.  As long as I can beat the pet rock in the next 40 years I'll be fairly happy.  The FEDS have been looking at deregulating state to state snail movement... if they would do that and leave the heavy restrictions about importing snails into the country *cha ching*!  I could sell $10,000 worth of snails with my eyes closed and constipated if I could ship across state lines without worry of a $6.5 million dollar fine.

I still have no idea how these are allowed to be mailed.

We use USPS because Fedex won't carry them Tongue.

The key is using the 275 # bursting strength corrugated & shipping only on Monday or Tuesday because you don't want to run the risk of a package sitting in a sorting facility over the weekend... because that's how you get dead snails!

Critters you can't mail using USPS:

All the saltwater fish tank stores sell live snails. All different kinds some totally coated in coralline algae. I'd say it's highly unlikely all those snails I see are from my state. Maybe look into how these other companies ship snails. Most of the stores just buy their inventory from online wholesalers.
I've already been issued a federal warning in regards to "snail smuggling"... lol *shakes head*

Fight the man!  Wink

This one is a love/hate relationship.

The FED's prevent live snails from being imported into the USA.  This prevents global competition for me.  Which is great for business.

The FED's prevent live snails from being able to be transfer across state lines without a permit.  This is fine because it prevents "heavy snail populated" areas such as the SF Bay Area to dominate key states such as Texas or Florida.  Right now my company only focuses on shipping snails within their respected state.  This method doesn't require a permit because there are no state lines crossed.

The FED's over regulating shit does hurt me because I can't ship to a LOT of people who want to purchase snails around the USA.  I'm going to bridge this profit hole with selling $20 nonrefundable permit applications (consulting.)  Basically my company will fill out your PPQ permit and lobby the USDA to please accept it.  It isn't as good as a $150 snail order, but $20 is $20 and beats the shit out of $0.

Johnny Appleseed would have been a huge felon now days. Sad

They can't stop these snails from staking their claim in this country and if they try to poison them there is a high chance of negative shit from it.

Best to just educate the people and these government folks on how best to use snails + create USA jobs and grow USA escargot industries.

If we didn't take care of cattle properly... they could be a serious pest as well. Smiley

I've been in touch with the USDA a number of times concerning my snail business.

In order for my snails to cross state lines... they have to be accompanied with a PPQ permit.  I've already been issued a federal warning in regards to "snail smuggling"... lol *shakes head*

The trick is with snails is to locate the snail within the state you desire to ship to.  If the snail is already in the state where the customer is located, then there is no permit needed.  My argument is that these snails are already located in every state.

Edit: Also keep in mind my snails are a bit different than algae eaters Smiley Some algae snails require the same permit though I believe.

Can I get a picture of your snails, at home on the range? I can understand shipping in a small container, but it's the living that I'm concerned with. That one pic had a 100 snails on top of each other. The snails I see in "the wild", err my neighborhood, are roaming on grass all alone, not crowded like a mega city.

The picture in the OP is my home range.  I'm more of a "snail middle man".  Believe it or not the snail industry is really tight lipped and I think I would be out of line asking my connection for pictures. (Sorta like asking someone where their morel patch is)

Snails are absolutely pack animals.  They socialize and go to great extremes to protect each others survival.

You have to be careful about how many you keep in one tank .  If the snails believe there isn't enough resources for the pack... they kill themselves.

I feel like these snails are different than most other snails I've seen around the states.  I've never seen Helix Aspersa alone.

Do you have any free range snails? The snails in the pic, in the aquarium look caged in. Free range snails make for a much tastier escargot!

Rofl well even a free range chick has to go in a cage to get to the consumer!

These are free range as fuck in other words Wink Tongue.

Working on getting these sames snails, but jarred and can be shipped anywhere.

I have a pet rock called rocky and a pet stick called sticky surely they're not easier to keep than them?

Mmmm it's a pretty close call Cheesy I can 100% promise the snail will have more personality than either of them.

Snails are super simple too.  The more you feed and water them... the more active they are.  If they don't get any food or water they just hibernate in there shells.

I regulate snail poo like this with my tanks.  With a 3 week plan they hardly shit ever.

Cheesy What do you mean... my rock and stick have plenty of personality.... they laugh at my jokes, they love my singing, they literally wet themselves at my Simon Cowell impression.

Best thing is they dont need feeding or shit ever and they like to cuddle up at night beside me in bed often under the covers Wink.

I've considered a snail in the past but dont think I could handle the late nights or loud music coming from their room, my teenage daughter already gives me enough trouble with that..

 Grin

Snails are nocturnal, so if you aren't a fan of partying hard at night... the pet rock & pet stick maybe your best options!

Snails are asexual and have sex with each others, so a snails bedroom gets a bit "slimy"! Wink

Ha ha my stick and rock rule the house no chance of any other creatures coming in here especially the late night antics...

I like partying at night but dont think the slimy snails would be welcomed by the ladies my wife lol Grin.

Enough already thanks for the good laugh enjoy your snails hope you get to sell some soon Smiley.

I'm pretty curious. How do you ship these things?

44 edge crush test boxes for the outside packaged with coffee filters inside Tupperware inside the box.

The trick is to keep the snails from bouncing off each others shells along the trip.

Shipped via USPS.

Isn't there a rule for shipping live things?

A few.

Fedex and UPS won't ship live snails.

USPS the box needs to be the 44 edge crush test.

Snails can't cross state lines without USDA permission.

mmmmmm that's about all I've been bitched at about thus far Smiley!

If I buy will you provide a good recipe for escargot?

Sure!  I don't cook my own, but I know a bunch of folks who do and who have made recommendations.

Escargot in America at restaurants are complete shit.  The idea of snails being chewy or rubbery is only due to a shitty product being served.

Will you ever expand you shipping to other states, such as TN? For some reason, I feel like i should really buy one of them.

I will indeed.

Regulations in regards to snails are kind of tricky.

Live snails can not be imported into America for any reason.  This prevents SnailsInTheMail from having to compete with a global market.

Live snails must be accompanied with a PPQ permit if they are crossing state lines.  This permit has only been given to 1 person in like 8 years.  Death by regulation per say.

My companies hypothesis is that these snails already exist in all 50 states and once we locate the supplies we will have a monopoly on the industry. (at least for a short period of time... which is why the snails are marked up how they are because I fulled expect farmers and the FEDS to become more snail friendly)

Only looking to branch into one other kind of snail for now and that is the Helix Pomatia.

Bump for snails!

Rofl very strange.

My tank would look crazy in slow motion I imagine.

That is a Giant African Snail I believe.  Those are actually illegal in the United States.  You can get them in the United Kingdom. http://www.snails4you.com/

It's actually not legal to bring any type of live snail into the United States in general.  Kind of a snail monopoly thanks to Big Brother <3

Truly amazing creatures.

Helix Aspersa can be used for pets, breeding, caviar, escargot, training, harvesting slime, shells for all types of things, reptile food and I'm sure a number of other things.

One of the most profitable thing you can farm per acre. (drugs included)

50% off for Bitcointalkers.

Shipping is free Smiley

We can add a note in the package for free and all orders are confidential. In other words if some company pisses you off.  You can safely send a snail painted to say "fuck you" without fear of it falling on you... pretty big addition to the world I know.
