There was a coin called Motocoin (from memory) that at least initially was supposed to be only mined by humans (in the form of a motorbike game).
Unfortunately I think that automated gaming algorithms eventually took over (but it is at least perhaps something worth taking a look at as maybe you can learn some things from it).
One big problem that I see is motivating people to actually want to put in the effort (i.e. solving a block would want to be more worthwhile to someone than posting nonsense on this forum with an ad-sig is).

So I was thinking that it might be possible to adapt the idea behind CAPTCHA and create a new class of algorithms that are much more secure based on dynamically generating something like publicly verifiable abstract human reasoning problems. I'm trying to gauge whether something like this is worth my time working on. A lot of ideas seem interesting at first but then you find out later on that people were only saying that and no one really cares. That can add up to a huge amount of wasted time that can be better spent on other things so at the very least: if there's zero buzz around this idea then I'm not going to want to spend weeks researching various measures of intelligence, machine learning, CAPTCHA technology, and graphics programming to develop the required software.
