Well hello there!

I suspect that they are only starting with BTC payment option on AWS services. Once it's rolled out and the bugs are hammered out I suspect that most if not all of remaining Amazon-related offerings will soon follow.

This, plus however you interpret it, it's a positive sign for Bitcoin & Amazon. Trial phase with a (likely) experienced user-base, and when the trial is a huge success (this is what I expect), it'll be a no-brainer to broadly adopt it. Bezos is a really smart guy, and I think this move shows that.

The more of us who actually use AWS with Bitcoin will go a long way to influence how quickly Amazon adopts Bitcoin for everything.

Using btc will reduce signup friction with people who want to use AWS. Plus like you said someone who's going to spin up some instances on AWS is vastly more likely to be a user of bitcoin than your average person shopping on Amazon.

While Amazon doesn't appear to be in any hurry to offer Bitcoin on its marketplace, it was awarded a patent that includes Bitcoin as a funding source for its cloud computing services, known as AWS. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted patent 8,719,131, "Allocating financial risk and reward in a multi-tenant environment," to Amazon Technologies, Inc.
