the-eskimo, you say TeamViewer drops 80-100 kh/s per GPU?  How did you test this, with reported pool hash rates?  I'm getting a good rate from a 270x, but shit from a 7950 and I wonder if that is the issue.  Would just HDMI-->TV cause a rate drop like you say?
Well, we heard the fans go up when we quit TV. That's when we started investigating. After a few hours of mining without being logged in on TV, if we would then login cgminer would report an average of 2.8+Mhs. And yes, the same thing happened when we connected the rig to a TV (most of the time the hashrate of all four cards would drop with around 100khs).

So I suggest to let your rig mine headless and without TV logged in for an hour and then check the average hash rate.

XFX 7950 after a bios undervolt to 1.09v still runs ~8c warmer with good spacing / air circulation than all my other non-blower model 7950s.

Seriously, avoid XFX 79xx cards.

You guys are undervolting your gaming cards, for 24/7 mining, right?

Do you read the temperatures of the VRMs with Gpu-z ?

Regarding hash speed, search this thread for a bios: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=12369.0

Hi guys,

First post here, and I'd like to contribute something about the XFX 7970's DD. A friend of mine and I have a rig running with 4 of them, and together they pull a steady 2.8+ Mhs. We accidentally broke on one of the cards (not by mining but by bumping into one of them :-)) and the three now pull 2.1+ Mhs. So; they're not shit.

But, it wasn't easy to get them at that hashrate. We tried a lot of different settings and it was hard to get them above 600 khs. Let me tell you what we did:

We've used the settings we found here: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=9844.0

Then we still didn't get far above 600 khs. After a lot of trial and error, we noticed that it was TeamViewer causing the hashrates to drop by 80-100 khs per GPU.

So we finally found out that TV was the problem, and we are now mining for almost 72 hours continuously. There was one problem though; one GPU got above 90 degrees. We turned down the memclock to 1575 and the core to 1000 (from 1600 and 1044 respectively), and this GPU now runs at around 86 degrees. The other GPUs are in the 76-82 degrees range.

These high temperatures are the result of putting the rigs in a closed server rack (in a facility where we don't have to pay a lot for power consumption). When we were testing the rig at home in a living room, all 4 GPUs were steady in the 78-83 degree temperature range. So we're planning to move the rig outside the server rack.

So yes, these cards can be a bitch to get them at 700+ khs but they're not shit.

That's why I like them actually; because people get bad results you can easily buy them. They're not that expensive and you can get good hashrates.

Let me know if the settings in the link I've posted work and if you're interested in the config settings, pictures of the rig and/or our hardware setup.

I have XFX 7970 and they are pure shit for mining.

Really inconsistent hashrates, they will read DEAD in cgminer if I run any of the recommended settings and when they do run, they are loud as fuck and get really hot.

I have been getting around ~500kh per card(3). If you buy a SINGLE card it will work fine. If you run multiple cards on a rig you will have problems.

If I disconnect 2 of my cards and just hash with 1 of them I can get 680-700kh. Fucking stupid.

My other rig runs 4x Sapphire R9 270x and they hash just as good and are supposed to be "2 generations behind" and rarely have problems.

I haven't heard anything good about XFX either, but newegg had a deal on them so I ordered 5x overclocked R9 290's from them @ $449 each .  Hopefully they don't suck too bad since that's still $50 over MSRP but pretty good for how expensive they have gone last month or so.

I have an XFX 7950 and it's working just fine.  I did not modify the BIOS because, unlike my other 7950's, it doesn't have the "safety switch" to toggle between 2 BIOSes.  It sits at around 78c with no undervolt and gives me about 625kh/sec with modest overclock.

I got a XFX HD 7970 DD. I can run a stable 690KH/s using a GIGABYTE bios on it.

I've heard a lot about these cards not been that good,  But I've got a XFX 7950 running at about 625 kh/s which is only about 25kh/s below my gigabyte 7950.

Have I just struck it lucky on this card.

Lets hear from other users
