QUALITY of Card: I bought 4 pieces 8-9 months ago, they have very good quality
TIMING: not good time to buy any mining gear. Instead invest money in good coins like BTC/ETH.

Hi guys, I am getting a offer for brand new XFX RX 470 RS 4g for approx $350. Should I buy it even though Bitmain will release ethash miner. Once they are sold out I won't be able to get them at this price again. The closest I will get will be $446 for RX 570 4gb or $453 for  RX580 4gb.

I could buy 6 or 12 cards. What do you think or should I wait for Nvidia cards.

If you go on eBay and look there were many auctions where you could of gotten a RX 470 for about $200.

Same with the 1060 and the 1080, many of them are either at MSRP or below.

So unless BTC goes above $10000 next week, the deals will still be happening.

I'd say the price is extremely high and it is just not worth it, cause you can buy
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126189&cm_re=rx570-_-14-126-189-_-Product
just 300$ and that is RX570 which is better.. but anyhow based on price and cost of new eth asics,  gpu should cost around 100$ ...
It costs more to my as I am not from US. Shipping and custom adds another $100-150.

But yeah, I am not buying it. I realized that if I am gonna waste my money, i'd rather waste it on Nvidia since it is still safer due to many algos.

AMD is not going to release any new GPU this year, so after Nvidia releases volta AMD cards will be selling for less then msrp.

Don't buy it. It is too risky to buy any new GPUs right now if esp. if you don't know what you are getting into. You shouldn't need to ask on the forums if you already know what you're getting into. There are lots of guides and tips online you just need to search.

And $350 is not cheap for an RX 470. Thats an obsolete version that was sold even lower when it was the top dog.

The way things are going right now, unless you can get a card at or below MSRP, don’t buy it. There’s plenty more GPU developments coming soon in 2018, and GPU prices have been slipping continuously recently anyways. Some Nvidia cards are selling for near MSRP right now if you really want to get a card. Most AMD cards are still well above MSRP price based on what I have noticed recently, and unless this changes it’s not worth buying anything from AMD for mining right now.

An honest opinion:

We should wait because there is a lot to happen

New Nvidia Cards
Bitmain vs Good guys supporting decentralization
Probably cheaper cards

Lot of controversial opinions about the future of GPU mining is going on right now, with the introduction of many ASICs for algos which used to be mined with GPU/CPU. Monero just did a hardfork just because there was a huge increase in the network hashrate. Some believe that bitmain started mining with cryptonight asics from early Jan 2018.

Please be careful and do extensive research before you invest your hard earned money to build mining rigs. It is of course a very fascinating thing to do when we are fond of computer hardware.

My personal opinion will be that GPU mining will not become obsolete or anything like that, even with many asics being pushed into the market every day. You can still mine coins like monero etc..but also consider the fact that it won't be the same profitability later (in case) many asics come into use for various GPU mineable coins, since there is already a very large no: of GPUs doing mining and obviously, everyone will rush towards the lesser no: of coins that are mineable with GPU thus increasing the difficulty exponentially.

I would strongly suggest to wait it out and be patient - make an investment only when you have a clear signal about the future.

Cards are stiil way overpriced compared to what they were at the end of last year. Once the new cards come out in July-August, you will take a huge loss buying cards at those prices. The only cards I would consider buying for mining right now are used cards that are priced at less than the MSRP they were selling for at the end of last year.

To expensive. Just wait. They will be sold for 200$ soon.

you can estimate how much the dificultly of the network will increase with the release of the miners from bitmain, but I think this model will not play a special role, but the next one will be much more powerful than the previous one and destroy all GPU mining.

How the fuck is that even close to worth it when the Eth ASICs sold for $800??

So stupid, I would NEVER buy any new hardware right now.
