So I have a possibly dumb question.

I have all my XMR stored in a wallet from the prior version. I DON'T want to convert it to the GUI as it's too much XMR for my liking (sorry I trust it, but not that much, yet).

I have noticed that opening existing wallets using the GUI leaves new files called wallet.name.unportable... Can anyone explain what that's about, and if I should just use the monero-wallet-cli.exe instead for larger amount of funds using the beta monerod.exe included with the GUI, or should I just keep waiting longer for a newer release?

Thanks! Smiley

Also, what's the default location for wallets created in the GUI, I can't seem to figure it out? Tongue

OK, the "--data-dir D:\bitmonero" at startup and in settings to change the data folder works for the GUI wallet.

Size of folder once fully synced in 3 hours : 8.49 GB.

But I sent a few XMR from MyMonero to my GUI wallet, 2 hours later, still notting arrived ! Normal ? (Mixin : 10)

Is the transaction actually present on the blockchain? If so, try restarting the GUI.

Very nice! Finally Cheesy

But i have a question. I see this:
"Due to several important updates, 0.10.1 wallet binaries will not work with with wallets created by the GUI. Please use the binaries included in the package instead. Note: you can definitely use the 0.10.1 daemon:)"

I dont get exactly what it means.  Does it means wallets created by the GUI work with the GUI but not with wallet binaries? Will older wallets work with the gui? Thanks.

The wallet cache is incompatible due to this PR:

https://github.com/monero-project/monero/pull/1462

The .keys file, however, is compatible. Thus, you are able to open older wallets with the GUI if you remove the cache. Similarly, wallets created with the GUI will work with the 0.10.1.0 binaries if you remove the cache. Note that a newer version of monero-wallet-cli is also bundled with the GUI and with that version the wallet cache is compatible.

Lastly, note that removing your cache results in losing your private tx keys, which may be needed in case of a dispute.

2% real usage...?   Actually that's not bad.  Post GUI people may well feel a lot better about offering and receiving XMR, and once they see the speed, it can only be hoped the volume will grow.

REAL USE is crucial for a cryptocurrency. This is exactly that.  Whatever people think of dark markets, it's real use of XMR as money and will help to promote growth.

Well with 2% usage, mass adoption has begun. Excellent job XMR community!

Getting to 10% usage should be a lot easier, since the first 2% is paving the way for the rest. If you are not holding XMR right now, what are you waiting for?

Looks like $20-25 is reasonable for next leg up, as the layers of code are being all polished up

owlcatz is correct, you should launch the daemon with the --data-dir flag to specify a non-standard location, for example:
Code:
monerod --data-dir E:\some\other\place

Not at home right now, but think blockchain is right around 10 GB now.

Hi, with the beta GUI, how can we configure the program to save the Monero blockchain to an other disk than C: please ?

Currently, what is the total size of the data downloaded by Monero wallet, please ?

you could try adding --data-dir D:\bitmonero to the Daemon startup flags on the settings page in the gui, or you can always launch it separately in a dos box like the old way, if that feature doesn't yet work I mean.

I am not sure on 2 yet, I'm still resyncing. Wink

Thanks, let us know how it goes!? Cheesy

I am not affiliated with GorillaPool. You can contact the owner here:

Or try #monero-pools on IRC (freenode server).

Also, the pool seems to mine XCI and not XMR.

You should contact the pool operator, over in #monero-pools on freenode instead.

Killing vs Killed....technicalities.

Yes, and -- to be precise -- I said Greg invented CT, and Greg works for Blockstream, and "BlockStream" has taken steps that IMHO may be hurting bitcoin.

For all I know, good ol' Greg is really secretly opposed to the actions of his employer, in fact.  I never said anything against him personally at all yet some people feel the need to defend poor Greggie's honor?  Okay yeah whatever, fine again sorry I got youse guys panties all in a bunch, LOL

Anyway, enough... I'm outta this stupid topic.

Go chill out everyone -- have a nice Egg Nog and Merry Christmas to all.

Hopefully we have a great 2017 with both BTC and XMR going *together* to the MOON!!!
