In the last couple of days we've seen networkpps go from 35-45MPPS to around 65-70MPPS.

Makes you wonder if a GPU miner isn't being tested.

I don't think so. Because we lack a bigNum library for openCL/CUDA, it will take time to have a working GPU Miner. And it's not even sure that will be more efficient compared to CPU mining.
Probably result of botnets, and HP8 improvements or people trying what is now the only viable option : big cluster for mining.

Update : I've been told getchainspermin is a more accurate metric of performance,, Thus my 3800 PPS instance give me 7 CPM

0.201 XPM / 1.84 chain per minute / Days  [+/- 10%]

or

0.1087 XPM / ChainPerMin / Days

Based on 10000 hrs at 7 CPM @ diff 9.27 (HP8) [+/- 10%]

chain per minute isn't very precise, There should be a GetChainPerHrs command

50kpps = how many XPM per hour (or day) roughly?

5 blocks/day on average, but it's highly random. Got 4 block today, but 7 yesterday.
I try to set up a private pool to mine XPM (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/xpmann-private-pooled-mining-263088), but it seems that no one is interested so I keep mining solo

I stopped mining XPM.  At first was killer profit.  But at this point it seemed i was slowing down my GPU mining enough it was actually losing me money to mine XPM.  Granted i could have adjusted cores used, but at this point big servers and VPS is where the winners are.  And profit from VPS i would like to see now how much is made on a "good" day.

0.201 XPM / k PPS / Days  +/- 5%

With difficulty 9.277 and HP8 optimization ,,,

Network currently estimated at ~65 000 000 PPS

... not going to run large scale experiment every time I want to know the profitability factor.

Do we have anything better ? And how does it scale with difficulty ?

Your estimate is really high. Few days ago 5 000 000 PPS would represent ~20% of the network, And I don't think that network has doubled since... So 35 000 000 to 40 000 000 PPS is a better close figure (~0.4 XPM / k PPS / Day).

Anyway the coin is still profitable, if you have large farm (at least 50kPPS) and can reduce variance.

It is no longer profitable to CPU mine Primecoin. I did the calculation.
If you haven't earned any coins after 3 days shut down.
Why would you need to wait 3 days ?

I did the calculation too (above),

Test made with 3.8 mPPS for 10 hours, cost 700$... result = not profitable ...
